It's been too long since I've dropped any artwork in here, but I like to show off the process.

Here's a before and after for a generated image showing Poor Juliette after she has had a nasty surprise!

1732017674170.png 1732017714307.png

I chose the generated image from a bunch of 50 or so, because it got the hair, nose, and eyes (and tits) to look "correct" as per my preferred reference image. I am trying to stick as closely as possible to a specific look so that the character does not noticeably change from scene to scene (or worse, within a scene with different face expressions...)

As you can see, the original had a number of problems: a random extra hand, a flying xbox controller coming in from behind, a six fingered left hand that is not exactly dainty. And the weird conjoined hand on the right (her right, lol).

The image itself was a little too closely framed, with part of the hands cut off (including after editing) and the legs too short compared to other standing images.

So with an hour or so of paint.net fiddling, I cleaned it up, including pasting in a replacement hand from another generated image, and removing the background to transparent.

Then the whole thing went back into Stable Diffusion for a img2img pass to smooth over the joins

So I finally decided to try something new in the art department - it's becoming clear that my much beloved Paint.net is not the right tool for what I need to do.

This came about when I saw a vid of someone using photoshop skillfully to manipulate illustration art. (I generally dislike watching vids to learn stuff, text explanations are more my style. So it's taken me a long time to realize just how big the gap has become).

Then I put on my jaunty seamans hat and set sail, Arrrr... (much thanks for the advice for where to look for a reasonably trustworthy download site) and obtained a copy. Installed with no worries because I used the handy Sandboxie to keep it under control. Of course it wants to connect to the internets all the time... but no spying on me, mr. giant corporation!

And woweeeeee. Heal tool! smart select! layer masks! color match! Oh my! It has all the magic beans.

Aaaaand then it crashed hard after an hour of use. Some sort of phone home timeout I guess. Boooo.

But well, I started to think that maybe it would be worthy of spending some coin for something so clearly awesome as this new toy/tool.... until I discovered that you CAN'T just buy it. Only a fucking subscription that you must keep paying FOREVER. Like Patreon, except instead of supporting an artist for cultural works fap-material, you pay some shitheads in suits to not take away your beloved tool. I hate how some aspects of the software world have changed over my lifetime.

Signing off, Grumpy Osa.

As far as I know, CS5 & 6 where some of the last Photoshops that could easily be adjusted to not phone home all the time. Cause they were still at the tail end of the Pre-Adobe-Cloud creative suites

If you are looking for tool alternatives, check out Pixlr, it is freemium website, but their Editor seems pretty useful if you're not doing anything too crazy. And of course, there is always Krita.

I've been having to use the subscription service for PS and Premier for my animations. It sucks, but I'm not intelligent enough to find alternatives. I feel your pain, Papa Osa...

I use GIMP but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, nothing better for going crazy.
It's a real shame, because from what little I know about Adobe softwares, they look pretty good. It's just the company that's the problem...
For example, I tried After Effects (7 days trial) to make my banners and the application is very well designed and ergonomic. But when I saw the price I had to pay per month (40€) knowing that it's just one software among many that I need, I didn't subscribe.

i don't know if you need the latest release but i've been using PS 2021 for years and never had a crash or problems with connections.
Just look a couple of releases back and you will be good to go (without paying that scam of a company)

Wow, thank you for all the advice and comments.

Using the same logic as TheExordick about getting a version that was a few years behind to avoid the worst of the "shakedown scheme" monetization, I was trying to use PS 2022. Clearly I didn't go back far enough.

Based on the discussion, I'll try the following:

1. grab PS2021 and try it. maybe it has a Crack that works better than the one i had.

2. Take a look at Krita, see what it can do.

3. Try the PS version from CS6 (but that is 12 years old now... how much functionality is gone? but then again, how much would I actually use...)

GIMP: I have tried GIMP before. It was not a pleasant learning curve. reminded me of blender from the 2.72 days, but even worse UI and no usable documentation/web-based resource of helpful answers.

Pixlr: I've used photopea, another web-browser powered (web assembly?) PS clone. it was okay but not a great experience. The browser UI issues and what seemed to be limited memory hampered it. I also had multiple crashes mid-editing, that is not cool. Could be worth looking at too though.

Adobe be all like "Fuck you pay me": maybe if/when I get to the point of releasing this baby, and I feel inclined to put up a begging Substar page, the cash flow would be enough to cover a PS subscription? I'm certainly not inclined to put actual-real-money-I-worked-hard-to-earn into an unreleased hobby project; the hours and hours poured into it seem like more than enough.

BTW Juliette says thank-you!

Quick update:

I've been chugging along this week, doing some standing sprites and working on slotting them into scenes.

PS2021 version is working nicely for me, and gradually starting to learn how to use it effectively. The difference in the defaults UI actions for zoom/pan from what I have become used to is however making me crazy! But the wonderful effectiveness of proper healing tools and warp transforms is enough for me to forgive the pain....

Anyway, here's a sneak peek of an early scene. I call it: "Look ma, I really do have a renpy game in development!"

So, I must confess that I made a terrible mistake (from the viewpoint of TMI progress).

Despite my general dislike of RPGM games, I downloaded "A Struggle with Sin" after seeing it persist in the Latest Releases for so many years and reading some of the the consistently high score reviews. I now understand why it is so popular - the sheer volume of content is incredible, and the balance of grind/reward is mostly excellent, and the constant intertwining of characters, locations, sub-stories, and game choice feedback is amazing. It's a massive and well-executed body of work. Also remarkably low bug-count given the complexity and scope of the game, and the notoriously bad RPGM coding paradigm.

Since that download, many many hours have been spent playing the game, sometimes one handed. Hours and hours of my precious late night private time, that is otherwise reserved for online-gaming-with-the-fellas and then working on TMI in the dark hours before sleep claims me.

As a result I am sad to report there has been not much progress on The Moorcock Incident since my last progress update post in this thread. The good news is that I think that I've largely seen 80%+ of the content of ASWS and now I'm not feeling quite so obsessed anymore.

And the even better news it that I am back on TMI image generation/editing/scripting today, and here's some proof:

(BTW: this image is from another thread where someone raised "Stability Matrix" and I wanted to show my support. It's a much easier way to manage a local automatic1111 install than I previously was doing manually)

I feel that these sort of aperiodic side quests are kind of inevitable, in between real-life and the vagaries of interest level in what is a hobby project.

I'm not giving up though... I'll keep grinding, keep coming back to it, and try to rarely have a "zero progress" day, and NEVER have zero progress weeks.

Men, women and everybody else....At the end of the day we are all here, on this site, to play games one handed. So don't worry if you use your free time to relax and not develop the game (still amazing to see so much work in a project made purely for fun). Besides, who knows? By playing other games you might find something that inspires you or that you want to add in your game as well

I HEAR WHAT!? The great Osanaiko dared to waste time on frivalioius activities while working on an amazing game that no one asked for (but everybody wished it)! While most likely having a real life outside the scantly clothed maidens on the "interwebz" we all permanently dwell on. How DARE you good sir, back to the AI mines with you!
/End rant
You're (hopefully) not a machine, so, remember to take one handed breaks as often as your body can handle it. Godspeed good sir

You're kidding right? Have you seen that profile pick? Osanaiko is obviously a sex-machine!
Thick lascivious lips.
Heavy bestial brows.
Coarse strong features.
Dapper dress sense.

I am the guy that all the husbands who leave their lonely young wives alone at home while they go to their soul crushing salaryman jobs truly fear... :devilish:

Now I'm sure you're all very worried  about how the vulnerable and pure-hearted Juliette is going to fare as the lone crew member awake on such a big ship, once she has taken the three crude and lusty fellows onboard. Surely she would be at risk of all sorts of heinous and perverted insults being inflicted against her body and her pride.

Well, the clever fellows at the United Earth Forces military command are way ahead of you. All ships of the fleet include a number of on-board defense robots, that are slaved to the orders of the command hierarchy and are governed by the ship's central computers. As long as the system is working as intended any crew members that find themselves in danger, including those with exceptionally curvaceous and erotic figures, can simply call for help as needed!

Unfortunately the Design Team (lead by the brilliant Dr. Osanaiko ) had a few failures when developing this critical system. Drawn directly from the top-secret archives (ahem, automatic1111 output folders) here are some examples...

1734520224300.png

Just look at that motley gallery of turkeys. Frypan Droid! :poop: Amputee Androform! :poop: TOASTERBOT! :poop: :poop: :poop:

Luckily, the design team was able to leverage the extreme power of BLENDER and eventually a far more appropriate and effective model was created.... "Guardbot HX-9"!! Come and say a few words Guardbot...

1734521019938.png
"Beep Boop"

And so, young Juliette will have a sure-fire way of preserving her dignity and morals... unless, for some unimaginable reason, she chooses to WILLINGLY put herself in situations entirely unbecoming of a Ship's (junior) officer!
:sneaky:
