I would assume so, but then again I would assume a nearly successful kidnapping attempt out of the blue would also change you. This MC never misses an opportunity to complain about his family lying to him, but he never acts like someone who had a brush with his own mortality. It does paint him as a rather immature person, not helped in the slightest in Chapter 6 by him steadfastly ignoring everything but his bizarrely passive job right after ranting about bringing justice to Finnabair's killer.
It would be nice if the MC stopped venting his spleen about the injustice in his life and started working out what he actually wants to do with said life while he still has it.
Yeah you worded it better than me, fully agree.
Theres just such a huuuuuuge discrepancy between the way he talks (to his parents, to the templars, to the elves) like he is actually someone important (even before he got kinda legitimated with the sword) but follows up with nothing.
Which always kinda makes me feel understanding for the shitty people who dont take him serious, he feels more like a 15 year old to me when we talk about his maturity. I probably wouldnt take this guy serious too.
He just kinda lacks any kind of drive/ambition or whatever you want to call it. The only thing he did was stumbling into the elven realm (without any plan) and becoming/being discovered as a chosen one by cheer luck and utterly random circumstances.
And now when hes aware of him being special, he just does jackshit lol, like he waits for destiny to knock on his door again and hold his hand while guiding him towards the next possible course of action.
It would be fine (but annoying) if he would be supposed to be a more reserved kind of guy but his inactivity and lack of determination really clash badly with his self centered attitude.
I can understand that people are pissed at the parents but i will never understand how anyone can consider it reasonable HOW PISSED the mcs reacts while being in mortal danger and WHILE his dad is kept hostage and possibly dead. Its okay to cut them off but maybe after youre out of immediate danger and maaaaybe dont make it all about yourself while your dad is possibly going to die (even when dad is a utter fuckup).
I really have troubles with how incredibly self-centered and close to narcisstic the mc is while he is even (by sheer luck) the uber special chosen one YET DOES NOTHING USEFUL
edit: Thinking about it, the first thing the mc did after discovering neverwhere was to run alone to the elves, the parents probably knew that he's a moron and thats why they needed this scheme to keep him in the dark (which probably wasnt hard). Other kids apparently get indroctinated early, he was probably considered too stupid.
