One of the big mistakes people make is thinking they need to read everything when you don't. Read the stuff that interests you, read up on the stuff that doesn't. If you do want to read everything, which I've done, it's a hell of an undertaking. Just make sure it doesn't put you off reading comics ever again, because that is a genuine risk.
And to clarify, while I am getting a bit lost and overwhelmed by the sheer number of different comic lines, a lot of my disdain is mainly annoyance from Marvel spinning off characters at the drop of a hat with the flimsiest of excuses. Really enjoying a team dynamic, and suddenly everyone has a big fight and splits off into three different teams.
It's a pet peeve, and I know the spin-offs have their fans, but it still annoys me, especially since I'm reading the comics online and I don't want to look through the database to keep following the characters.
