I see I have failed at conveying what my real argument was, I apologize and will try again.

If you want the player to have the option to date multiple women, but to also keep realism in mind, then I think the characters would more readily accept casual sex before polyamory.
And being a bit of a fuckboy is going to look less silly than being in a commited relationship with half the faculty.


When I or anyone says "realistic" we mean according to our universe and standards, since including any possible reality would make the word meaningless.

It's quite simple. This is a whole different universe, a different Earth. They simply just choose to be open to polyamory in this case. I mean, look at RLE. You think that's any more realistic to this one?

That logic doesn't work. RLE does not take itself serious. TNH is way more ambitious with what it tries to do with its story. That's why RLE pulls it off easily, but gets boring quickly. TNH is way harder to write. Especially when you try to combine things like romance and harem in a "realistic"/"serious" story.

You can't compare these two. The only thing they have in common is the mutant theme and the mechanics.

I didn't take the first one or two masochism/submissive choices for Rogue (just felt weird to jump into that in like the first conversation) but have pretty much done every single one since and yet we just had a talk where she said i "shut that down pretty quickly".

That's despite her already acting super submisvely otherwise (asking for permission to leave, being deferential at the mall, waiting for me to order food for her, etc)

Code-wise (as in, I don't know the full intention. I can only surmise the intention from the code), it's tied to points that are only given (at the time of writing) via specific decisions. There are 2 variables that collect points, (quirk)_encouraged and (quirk)_discouraged. Some checks check only for if one exists. Others check to see if one is larger than another. When it passes (or fails) the checks, the character can have different stats(not 100% accurate, but trying not to spoil anything), different set of dialogue, some different options (again, being super vague to not spoil anything), etc.

Correct. Just keep in mind that the opposite might be true. Or that it's checking against (quirk)_encouraged but it failed the check and the dialogue you're getting is the check failed dialogue.

I understand the girls are written with a realistic approach to romance with regards to their characters. Adding the asterisk that they're all open to anal, threesomes and such.
And I surmise the reason for adding polygamy is they want the player to be able to have fun with multiple girls in the game.
Which I think could be more naturally accomplished with casual trysts rather than polygamy, which is a bigger ask for almost any girl, and far more rare.

I ask because I'm curious. Curious about the discussions and thought processes that went into the decision.

This is not even remotely close to true. Every major modern incarnation of Rogue has been a romantic at heart. The one we're basing her personality off of, mainline 616, has specifically stated the importance of her "first time" being special before and after it happened.

It seems like she wants to do that but then the player puts on the brakes. Why? Why not give us the option?

We can't justify any reason for every girl in the game wanting to be exclusive to Null but let Null bang whoever he wanted.

In fact, we had an overwhelming amount of feedback that people found it weird how quick the girls were to just let Null run around banging chicks during the initial release.

For example. If you become a fuck buddy with Kitty, what's stopping her from also being a fuck buddy with Colossus? What's to stop Storm from going out with Wolverine if your relationship is purely physical? What stops Rogue from going after someone else when she learns to control her powers?

Nothing.

Unless we go with porn logic. Which the overwhelming majority of our supporters would not like.

The data and feedback I've collected from people showing the greatest support shows that they wouldn't be happy if we used "because porn" when writing.

Jean Grey was invented in the 60s. She wasn't a deep character beyond being "the girl." So taking context clues of how "Normal Jean" behaved after the Phoenix Saga and just what we knew of women during the mid-2,000s... Yeah, the over-stressed prodigy child made the most sense.

Edit: Rogue and Laura's personalities are adapted straight from their early appearances.

I feel like it's a bug but suddenly in the last chapter Laura suddenly decided to get pissed off that I was dating Jean even though I waited until after I got their friendships maxed and did all the proper dialogue options and quests and what not in chapter 3. I had been dating and sleeping with all three girls repeatedly at that point. Not sure why she suddenly got a hair up her butt about but it doesn't feel like that should happen.

I dated Laura first and didn't do anything with the other two until I did all the quests and did all the dialogues for asking permission and what not. It seemed really random and out of the blue.

Yeah. This is a known bug. Do you have my cheat injector installed? I actually put in turning off statuses (mad, angry, horny, etc.) because this bug exists. There might be other things you'd need to wait to wear off but at least she'll stop being mad at you.

- Whether or not they have sex with you is not dependent on a numeric value, but on specific event flags. At the time of writing, the characters will need to have said "I love you" first before they are willing to have sex with you.
