If surviving the camps during WW2 is the only thing that defines the jewish people and their culture then there are a LOT of gypsies, gays, POW's and other "undesirables" that would have right of return to israel. One relatively recent bad historical event does not define an entire race of people and their culture.I'm trying to figure out if this comment was meant to be ironic. Contextually, it doesn't seem so. But given that Magneto's entire backstory is that he was a German-born Jew who was sent to Auschwitz and barely survived the Holocaust, the fact is that he's actually pretty damned Jewish. So it makes an odd point of comparison in your argument unless you're saying that the aforementioned rather critical part of his background has also been 'forgotten.'
If anything, Magento is portrayed as more of the modern idea of the Nazi ideal. A intelligent, tall, muscular, and well heeled man, that some would call an "Ubermensch" if you will, that believes the lower races of the world should be exterminated to make way for the master race (mutants in this case).
Couldn't have put it better myself. These days, the only way it gets mentioned is when "justifying" his actions.
You are joking but that's not that far off, and if we are being honest jews do use the holocaust as a "get out of jail free" card when it comes to evil shit they do.
Modern comic writing representation :
Random "X-Person" : "Magneto! Why did you use your magnet powers to magnet that bus of children off a cliff?!?"
Magneto : "I'm Jewish! The Germans were bad!"
Random "X-Person" : "Oh. Understood. Checks out." *mounts up on their unicorn and flies off*
