It was me who brought up persistent changes originally though that was in reference to the larger future game. I stand by it being a good idea, there are a dime a dozen games of do quest see sex scene however there aren't a lot of games that let you brew potions to change your char and how they are in scenes and the few games that do that sort of thing are either primitive single scene flash games or jank as fuck 3d games, it would be a sure fire way to make your patreon/subscribestar explode since people want a unique selling point. People also wont care if it takes a bit longer if its good shit. I'm just imagining stumbling across the game as someone that doesnt know about it and seeing "hogwarts porn game" and I will think well the art is nice but that's been done to death, but if I saw "hogwarts porn game where potions permanently change your character" christ alive that has got my interest.

So the talk about modding kinda got me thinking, the game Dev said they probably wont be adding in persistent transformations, i figured id add them myself lol!

so eat your heart out because thats exactly what i wanted too.

I also added in the failed cauldron effects, the Ahegao, flying cumshot, masurbation, and expansion effects. But i was only able to replace the existing textures, not create anything new, so right from the start of the game you will be Ginny and any effects i didn't add will revert back to Hermione, for example i haven't created one for the bimbo potion.

To install this mod download the attached sharedassets0.zip, extract and replace it with the one under \gameroot\The Potion Room_Data

And if anyone wants to try their hand at modding in their own textures download the UABE tool

Use it to open the resources.assets file in the game data file (same place you replaced the other assets file at) a window will pop up saying it doesnt recognize the version, just scroll to the bottom and select the last 2019build, and then you should see a list of all the assets in the game. I filter by name first, then filter by type to find the Texture2D files. once you select a file you want to click the plugins button on the side if you want to export the file, or if you want to replace it.

Replacing is super easy, once you click plugins, just hit the edit button and in the window that pops up click "load" at the bottom, then add the edited sprite you want. After that just click ok and from there you can file>save the new assets file right to your data folder. (make a backup of sharedassets0.assets first as you cant write to the same file you have opened)

honestly the UABE tool kinda sucks for extracting so i used the Unity Asset Studio as its much easier for finding and extracting the sprites you want to edit.

Also since this will obviously break on the next update i will attach a zip with the sprites that i edited so they should theoretically be able to be added to any future version so long and the Dev doesn't rename them or change them in any way.
Hey, so I can not for the life of me figure out how to implement the mod into the game. Would it be possible for you to post the game file with the mod saved into it? Thanks

You need to overwrite the sharedassets0.assets file with the one he provided. Keep in mind he developed that mod for version 0.25 though, it won't work with the latest 0.30 version of the game.

Anyway, still not done with mine, but I kind of want to ask, what y'all think of this?

The idea is that some student accidentally left some music related stuff in the potions classroom, an idea that I came up with when thinking of how to put Unicorn hair into the scene, and I thought about how Cello/Violin bows are often strung with horse hair. You can pluck strands of hair off of the bow to use as ingredients, and the music book tied in with the instrument. Though the idea for the book that makes it relevant is that the student scrawled in some notes for their other classes into the book, rather than it being an actual part of the book.

this game is actually incredibly fun, the only thing i wish could be done is for some of the potions to persist. like after the skimpy witch dress or any of the polyjuice potions. I realize this is all hand drawn, which is incredible btw, so it would probably take a lot of time creating alternative 'skins' for each of the other animations but i think it would add a lot if you could change the look of the character as you go on.
Unfortunately you can't create 'skins' for pixel art. I'd have to draw everything again, pixel by pixel, and I can't see me doing that any time soon. That said, I was intending to go back to older scenes and add rare variants. I could perhaps have some of the variant scenes have a polyjuiced Hermione.
Right? like if you changed to ginny and did like the bimbo transformation, or the futa one, that would be so neat, ooh ooh or even doing the tentacle one with ginny, as if the spell was done as intended.
As I said above, I may do this with a select few scenes, but it would just be a variant animation and not a newly drawn scene.
Yo, so long since I found such a quality craft. There's so many unfinished, half-baked game. But this is not one of them. I can see it being a bit short, but the amount of work, art, and overall quality it just amazing. If only this kind of passion work for the other dev as well. Great props to you Mr/Mrs. Futon
Thanks Dab! I'm glad the amount of time I spend comes across. I hope you enjoy the new update too.
So is the newest version (the one before 0.35?)
I just released v0.30 today. v0.35 will be the next major update.

This is amazing! It's a really surreal experience playing my own game and seeing new stuff I didn't make. Genuinely great job.

I'll try my best not to rename things, but which things specifically? Is it the productObjects? ie. futaObject or expandObject.

Oh and do you want to make a thread for your mod? Or shall I just link to your post?
this floo powder is a tough one

Tbh, the multipage was something I hoped meant MORE TEXT, not just it split up: the stories are too brief! I want to read about Bimbo Hermione fucked, or Hermy Herm fuck someone (Ginny maybe)
That's the plan. I should have written this in the changelog but rewriting existing scenes will be an ongoing process, it takes a surprisingly long time to write so I'll probably re-write a few older scenes every update.
Rewriting the older scenes will be an ongoing process as I explain above ^^^
imo the stories are too long and unnecessary, especially because there is no skip button.
I want to see the animations, not read 3+ pages of fanfic.
Gah, I can't win.

I'll add a skip button next update.

I simply do not have enough time. I may add 'polyjuiced' variants to some scenes but converting every existing scene to a new character or mind state is not going to happen. It's a unique selling point because it's there isn't enough time in a day to complete such a game.

Now if this game was 3d, it would be a different story, I could very easily pop new models onto existing animated skeletons and not have an exponential workload. The game is not 3d though, it's 2d and hand drawn.
Every time I see this game has a new update, I feel a weird sense of joy because even if this game wasn't an adult game I would still probably play it because I love pixel art in general. I'm gonna have to subscribe to the Patreon I think. The person seems to have consistency a lot of other games don't have.
Thanks a load! I really appreciate it.
r there voice in this one?
No voice acting, but I've added sound to 5 more scenes and also added sound to the few items around the desk that still needed them.

I'm can't wait to see what you cook up. I'm amazed you even got to 5 animations. I feel a bit bad that you have to deal with my spaghetti code though :p Hopefully it wasn't too difficult parsing through it. Speaking of feeling bad, holy shit your setup to mod the game is even more involved than I imagined, I'd assumed it was fairly hacky and difficult to get working but it's worse than I thought :p

The concept for the cum-slime animation sounds awesome, it does seem a bit ambitious but judging from the screenshots you've shown though, you're underselling yourself, you've definitely got a fair bit of artistic talent.

The horsecock looks great! It can be a bit difficult getting the colouring right as you can only really tell if it works once it's in the scene with all the lighting and nonsense.

The unicorn bow and book look fantastic, the lore fits too. Only thing I'd say is that it looks a bit "noisy" in it's current position (all the shadows and other ingredients make it difficult to see what's what). Maybe move it somewhere where there's less stuff (assuming it's not hard to do).

Really looking forward to trying it :D

Well the 5 animations thing is perhaps overselling it, for the most part they are just variations of the same animation, and technically they come from only 2 products, but for one of the 2 products, I added both progression, and randomization, because I find adding some dynamicness makes them feel immersive. Though now, I actually still have some more animations to do for a cum ingredient, that I have yet to really mention...

Even though I might not use it in the way I want to for that slime animation, the rest of my mod won't really make sense without the cum ingredient. The particular animations of note that I'm gonna have to do is the actual ingredient animations themselves, then some player animations because I have a unique set of animations in mind to replace the wand raise/wand lower. And it's gonna involve some new posing.

The concept for the cum-slime animation sounds awesome, it does seem a bit ambitious but judging from the screenshots you've shown though, you're underselling yourself, you've definitely got a fair bit of artistic talent.
Eh... Still doubtful I'll do it. At least not right away... Maybe later if I come back to it.

The horsecock looks great! It can be a bit difficult getting the colouring right as you can only really tell if it works once it's in the scene with all the lighting and nonsense.
Yeah I am not using the proper materials/shaders in my Unity project for creating/editing the assets so I have no idea what they will look like in-game till I actually put them in. I did all the work on the horse cock before setting it up to load into the game.

Thanks, but honestly, I'm really not sure where to put the bow... Maybe if I rotate it 180 and put it on the other side of the desk where it's colors will contrast better. The actual clickable ingredient spot is a short strip on the far right end, which would be left if I rotate it. I could probably have the ingredient spot just past the Mimbulus Pot.

Really looking forward to trying it :D
I hope I don't disappoint.

Edit, forgot to address this:

For what it counts, the majority of my code so far has been a massive chunk of loading and initialization code that I slapped haphazardly into the MixScript Start function. This is just a bit of it:

Some of that is admittedly due to Dnspy auto reformatting, like renaming my variables to animator and animator2. But still...

First off, im really glad you enjoy the mod!
But one idea i had while i was changing the textures was i noticed you used the same (or at least very similar) template for each 'girl'. IE the eyes, mouth, waist were all in roughly the same places barring height, like how Ginny is actually a few pixels shorter. So the eyes, blush, and mouth can be basically copied over from any sprite. Also when i was re-creating the tentacle scene i even noticed the torso was the same as the standing animation. So when i was creating it i did it in two layers in my photo editor. i took the original and removed the torso while leaving the legs and tentacles and just moved the reference sprite i took from the Ginny potion scene and put it underneath. That accomplished 90% of the work, only thing that was left as the arm and eyes.

With how easy that was for me, i think if you wanted to add different variants in the future you could design certain layers that could be changed out at will. obviously you would still need to hand create each of the layers, but depending how many variants you want it could save you a lot of time. for example:

In this example can have the top-most layer be like our 'base scene' to determine if we wanted anal or vag.
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

And then the rear-most layer can be our character variant.

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

Obviously due to the motion involved the variant sprites have been cropped a little tight, but for a single frame example it gets the idea across.

So now we had to create 2 sets of 5 frame animations for the Base layer, and 3 single variant sprites which can be combined to give us 6 unique scenes! (EDIT: so i actually failed to realize the variant sprites aren't static across the 5 frames, so that really does make it so it isn't much better than just creating 6 individual scenes.... oh and mind any weird pixels in the gif, the last layer was messed up and compression hurt, i should've just used a black BG lol)
out.gif

Now obviously this is still more work, and not every potion needs to have that level of variance, plus if you were only going to do 1 normal and then 1 rare animation, it wouldn't make sense as it would limit you too much with your rare animation. But food for thought.

I'll try my best not to rename things, but which things specifically? Is it the productObjects? ie. futaObject or expandObject.

Oh and do you want to make a thread for your mod? Or shall I just link to your post?
All i am doing is replacing the main Texture2D image in the sharedassets0 file, and really the renaming wouldn't hurt much its just that if people wanted to patch my sprites into any arbitrary future version the sprites would need to have the same name (not a big deal, any monkey can rename a .png) and, more importantly, the same frame layout. So what's currently Tentacle_2 (a 1 x 5 animation) was later given 5 more animation frames and turned into a 2 x 5 image file, then patching my image into that new version would basically leave the last 5 frames empty.
Also I'm not sure how long or often i plan on updating the mod, which is why i also described how to patch my (or anyone else's) assets into the game, so a link would be more than enough.

If it's not in yet, a feature to skip scenes you've already seen (I.E. failure ones especially) would be neat.
Lotta idle time when you make mistakes which is something I really liked about the original flash game.

The animation is like, a few frames. If you remove the fanfics there's very little content. Why would you even play, for 20 seconds of pixel animations?

Also I like fanfics fwiw. The magic powder animation really fell flat IMO, but the text really made it worth having.

Really cool update, one thought though, with the new multi-page format for the ending text possibly add a skip all button next to the next page button?

Ah nvm, saw its planned for next patch, love the modding stuff.

EDIT: IDK why the last frame change colors. Its not in game.
Looks amazing! This is one of the variants I was hoping to add myself (was going to go for the triple) so you may see my version of this ingame soon ;)

I really appreciate the art. A little surreal to see some fanart/edits of my work.
Thank you for going into so much depth. I am very hesitant to mix my Hermione layers and Ginny layers. They may look similar but they are different and while it may not be so obvious to most people once I start adding more diverse characters I'll soon find myself restricted by the pre-existing layers.

I'm not set in stone as to how I'll add variant scenes, but I'll be purposefully avoiding anything that leads to exponential work.

I'll definitely be adding something to skip the scene text next update, I'm a little more hesitant to add a skip animation button as I kind of want to incorporate it into the hint system: The current idea being that each failed/repeated potion gives EXP and you can spend that EXP to get hints and unlock parts of a potion journal.

Hopefully that will make your idle time more meaningful?

Thanks... I guess? lol. The length of the new scene texts this update will be the norm, but I will add some sort of skip function for people who don't want to read as much.

(I'm glad you liked the floo text btw, when I was writing it I thought it was by far the weakest of the three)

Thanks for the updated guide and report. I actually fixed that bug but only fixed it for the previous page system. It should be fairly easy to apply to the new system though so it'll be fixed next update!
