Just a quick note or two, because I'm away from home for a few days and time's limited. It does seem like the change of folders is a factor for those people who have problems loading old saves. I'm 99% sure it's not something I'm doing unless it goes a very long way back. I do everything in a folder called "The_Roommate" but the build process creates new folders for each version, so definitely look at the previous post if the save issue affects you.

As to bugs in the actual gameplay, I will take a look at those this evening. Sorry, but as I've said before, it's just me and it's hard to see your own errors at times!

Downloaded v0.6.5 on Wednesday and spent all day Thursday trying to load a save from end of last update, but the game goes back to main menu.

This is the only game inmy Renpy collection that does this. No other game gives me this much problem.

I've never had that problem with the game returning to the main menu, so I can't say for sure, but to me it strongly implies that after loading the script execution is hitting the end of the file without reaching a jump statement to transfer the flow to another file. That's what would be most likely to return players to the menu without an error IMO. That or it hitting a return statement, which does the same thing, either of those without having any other statements on the call stack, it goes back to the menu.

While I have never had this particular issue, I have encountered a lot of games that act wonky, but I have always been able to work my way around them. Load a different save, play without the mod, and so on. But nothing I tried this time seems to work. I also play each version in its own folder. If it helps you to find the problem, it seems to load the game just fine until you click to continue, or press enter, then it goes to the menu.

Just to be clear, you're able to load and it goes as far as showing you whatever screen you were at previously? What happens if you roll back?

I tried the rollback option after loading a save that bounced me back to the menu, but when I reached the point of the initial save it still bounces back to main menu.

Looking at how it's set out, I'd bet that everyone who's having a problem saved on the "That's it for this version" screen, and I never had a problem because I always save before that. I believe that you can fix it by putting that screen in the label for the next chapter (so ch43 instead of ch99). The problem is that 'ch99' is always there, so the game just stays in the same place when someone loads a save made there. If it was in 'ch43' (or whatever for a new version) then that line would be gone when the player loads a save in the new version, and the game would automatically roll back to the end of ch42.

I did a play upto Day 39 - return from London saved on image of MC & Lois in car.
I also tried loading previous saves - Day13, Day 29 and Day 30 and all kick back to main menu.
Only version of The Roommate I can play without loading problems is v0.4.7 and also on one attempt at running v0.6.5 I found an error file had been created (Attached). View attachment The Roommate Error Log - Fri 20-05-2022.txt In it states duplication of files in "game/tempfunctions.rpy" which I can't find.

Since I've been having the same problems with old save games in v0.6.5, I've started a new game, skipped content and created a new save when the old (0.6.1?) version ends. I've been playing with the mod to highlight and pick the best choices. You may use my new, working save if you're having problems.

I don't know why, but I always have to start the game over, because when loading saves, the game returns to the menu.

To install this patch, just install the game, install the WT mod over it, then install my patch's files over those.

EDIT:
I just made another quick update to the mod. I had to add another hasattr check at the start of Chapter 40 in case Lois's status hadn't been initialized in the previous chapter to avoid a fatal error on certain paths. Just to be clear, it wasn't because of anything I did, I was just fixing a preexisting problem with the game/WT mod.

Is full sexy time content planned for the new randoms that show up for the receptionist positions or are we "encouraged" to pick the ones we already know and are on the loadscreen splash page like Aria? (Of Bree, Cassie, Jenny, Kayla, Rei; seems Cassie has a path start with her apartment situation).

I am actually a bit torn on what I want the answer to be. On the one hand, I'd obviously want content for the girls we pick. On the other hand, to cater to everyone's possible combinations, that's a hell of a lot render, writing, coding time sunk on content most people will never see that could have been spent by togs-games elsewhere.

PS. Love the game btw, especially Lois.

Tried your save but still get kicked back to main menu.

Thank you. I tried some different things half a dozen times to get 0.6.5 to work with my 0.6.1 saves, and they didn't work. I finally found your post. I started off by copying the 0.6.5 WT Mod into the 0.6.1 /game folder and replacing the 0.6.1 WT Mod. Then I copied the entire /game folder from 0.6.5 over to 0.6.1 and replaced it because I figured that was where all the scripts you mentioned are. And it seems to be working now. The game will load my latest save. Hopefully I did it right, and I didn't forget to copy anything over. For the guys who had the same problem as me that I cc'd below, hopefully you didn't delete the last version of the game so you can do the same (copy the /game folder from 0.6.5 over and replace your previous version /game folder).

I am having the same issue as MikeyUK, every time I try to load an old save it just reverts back to the main menu. I did use the mod in the old game and tried to load with the mod installed with the correct verson and it doesn't work. So I thought maybe if I just reinstall without the mod and try that might work, but no it still takes me back to the main menu for the game. I used the save I have for the 6.1 version of the game, and I even tried to use all the automatic saves but to no avail.

... it strongly implies that ... the script execution is hitting the end of the file without reaching a jump statement to transfer the flow to another file... or it hitting a return statement
MoP - is there a way to tell if you're in a "called" section (i.e. waiting for a return statement) in ren'py? I'm assuming there's some sort of stack?

I would love to get to the bottom of these issues. I can well believe it could be something like this, but it's hard to debug a problem when you can't reproduce it.

Can I suggest some of you that have experience these issues try going to the very last point in a game day and try saving there, and then try loading that in the newer build?

So for example, if you're playing 0601 or 0602, go to the end of day 39 and save there, then try loading that save from the latest build. Just something to try.
