For people having crashing and lag problems, turn off the audio completely via Origin. Apparently EA/Maxis fucked up the audio with the new patch and the only way to play without it crashing is to turn off the audio to the game before starting it. Rumor is that a fix won't be available until the 20th

This and play offline. I was caught off guard when the game crashed; but found out that they are aware and are working on an emergency patch this week. I tried the tips and it hadn't crashed since (but got stuck in build mode for some odd reason and couldn't get out nor save the game. Only happened once, so not sure why that happened).

This is how you turn off the audio

On Origin (PC/Mac)
Go to “My Game Library”.
Right click on The Sims 4 and select “Game Properties”.
Select the “Advanced Launch Options” ta
In the “Command line arguments” text field, add -nosound and select “Save”.

Don't assume Sims 5 is even being considered until EA is certain they have milked Sims 4 for as much money as they can.
