Anyway, there is not enough tentacle in BL, so me and my friend wanted to fix that by making The Symbiant.
Hey, I like what you're doing! The game looks pretty nice, both in art, plot, and tentacle play; I haven't gotten around to trying it yet, so I can't give a detailed review, but I'm completely okay with what's said to be provided.

I have my preferences and kinks, and though it's not top on the list, gay and/or tentacle is just a few of them. I love tentacles, just because it's a lot more dicks, and funny looking, wiggly ones, at that! *Chef Kiss*

I was okay with the stereotypical tentacle monsters raping Japanese girls, but then I stumbled onto tentacle on male by accident. I think my first love for tentacle on male was Venomess (Spider-Man) by Tracy Scops, which didn't even really have tentacles in it (more goopy "tendrils"), and I've gone down a spiral of Spider-Man x Venom fan porn, becomes it perfectly married my love of Spider-Man and Tentacles into a kink I didn't even know I needed.

Now, I heavily prefer tentacle x male, than with anyone else, and particularly if the tentacle is/used by a "person". "Anthropomorphic" tentacle monsters are where its at for me, as I like couples including tentacles in their sex (either via gear, or their actual appendages); the rape bit is just a whole 'nother kink of mine (one of, if not, my favorite) that joins the fun of monster with horror.

Keep doing what you're doing, though, you're making something beautiful, here, I'm not complaining!

Just out of curiosity, can the protagonist choose to play as a dom (or choose to top/bottom before a scene), or is it more of a switch situation, or only as a sub? I really love me a dominant male protagonist in yaoi and bara games (and I've played a hell of a lot over the years).

Also is it only the two guys, or are there other guys to pair with in the story?

In any case, the art style looks pretty nice! :)

This is a very common request I've seen over the years in other projects, and something a growing number of indie devs decided to implement to meet the demands of said players.

In the case of The Symbiant, both of the main characters get to top or dominate at some point in the story, but their role isn't chosen by the player. Them experimenting being a top or a bottom, dom or sub is a journey that's fully integrated into the plot and to let the player choose would mean breaking the plot itself.

Perhaps you already played them, but all games by Meyaoi (Seiyuu Danshi, Banana Ranch, and the upcoming Baradise Escape) feature the ability to choose in each sex scene. In the game Beyond Eden, 2 of the 6 routes let you choose and your choices don't really impact the plot, but still affect the dynamics of the characters during sex scenes.

Thanks for the info regarding the dom/sub/switch situation. I do find myself far more immersed in a game when I can actually choose whether the male protagonist is dom or sub (always dom for me), but it's fair enough if giving the choice would disturb the story you're trying to tell.

I have played Beyond Eden and its sequel - love me a slightly sadistic/manipulative dom who still turns out to genuinely like the guy/s; Kichiku Megane was my favourite yaoi for years (dom Katsuya, of course!). I'm actually really surprised I never saw the Meyaoi games, especially as I'm on itch.io quite a bit; they all look great but Baradise Escape's art is especially up my alley.
Most of the yaoi and bara that I've played over the years have been pure Japanese, using the old Atlas + AGTH/ITH setup to read them; I think my first was either Silver Chaos 1 (before it was translated) or Zettai Fukuju Meirei (Absolute Obedience - again, when it was still Japanese only) - a really long time ago! It's great to see how many yaoi and bara games (especially bara, for me!) are either being translated or made in English from the start these days.
Anyway, I really appreciate you recommending those three games - thanks!

And good luck with this game! :)

I wonder if uploading the Mac version is worth the trouble. I swear nobody plays on their Mac. Android version, on the other hand, is almost as popular as the PC version.

I play Ren'Py games almost exclusively on my Mac (dat M1 battery life, yo). :p

That said, I also know how to repackage non-Mac Ren'Py games so I can play them on my laptop (and, failing that, I have other systems), so I won't be bothered either way.

Let me guess:
- you reverse-engineer the games with some script like unren
- you dump the unpacked files into the Ren'py launcher
- you "build distributions" of the game by selecting the Mac version

If that's the case, I admire your dedication to go through these hoops just to play your Ren'py games. Sounds like a pain in the butt if you have to do it often.

In my case the "pain in the butt" is uploading 3 different game builds into 3 different file hosting services just to update the OP.

Nah, I'm way too lazy to do that. Since the only thing different between platforms are the packing methods and native libraries, I just make a copy of another game's app bundle (usually Ren'Py's sample game to ensure that I have the latest engine version) then swap in the py/pyc and resources files from the new game.

One benefit about that method is that it's easy enough to write a shell script to do all of it, and I haven't had a failure yet. Fingers crossed. :)

Yeah, definitely understandable. Trust me, I never begrudge devs for skipping Mac/Linux builds, especially when they have no way to test them.

Are you still planning to release Mac builds on Itch.io (really loving this story so far, so I've already preordered) or is that just an F95 thing? Just curious as to whether I should dust off my script or not. :)

Oh, I didn't know we could do that! That's good to know, if one day I ever want to switch to using a Linux distro again.

And thanks for the pre-order! We really appreciate it. The Mac build will 100% be up on itch upon release. It's just something done once for a full game (or once in a blue moon for patches) after all.

Yep! I don't have any real experience with the actual Ren'Py tools, so that was the first thing I tried. xD

It should be a bit easier on Linux since the directory structure is identical to Windows builds. You just need to make sure that the shared library (*.so) files end up in the correct place. The engine should do the rest.

You're very welcome, and thanks for the clarification.

Keep up the good work! :)

Progress this week:
- received the edited voice clips of part 2
- cut and selected which voice clips we'll send for part 3
- cleaned part 4 script to send our voice director for the next recording sessions
- implemented and tested the Traditional Chinese translation of the demo
- various bug fixes
- uploaded the new demo build on itchio, Google Play, Steam build to be updated soon as well
- wrote the bi-monthly progress update on itchio, patreon, Kickstarter

When I have more time, I would like to set up a "hackintosh" on a virtual machine so I can use it to export an iOS version of the game as well. Would be fun if we released the game on the Apple Store.

One of the particularities of the Boys Love genre is that usually, the protagonist is not meant to be a self-insert. He is his own character and takes as much space in CGs as the love interests. That means making his character design and personality interesting. We created Danya with that thought in mind.

It's kind of amusing how there is an even split between Brahve and Danya lovers though.

I do think Brahve is one of the more attractive MC's I've seen in a gay/male protag game, he's pretty sexy, but Danya is definitely more my type, because I go for those sharp feature/"villainous" pretty boys, plus with the signature white hair, I like long haired men in general, and them eyelashes DAYUM-mh-mh-mh. He's my type, without already being unique because of being an alien/blue skin, that would have attracted me for the differences, either way.

The art for this game is really good though, props.
