More like, there is no dark age, the roman empire never fell and christians don't exist either. Time wise we are arround 800-900 AD iirc.

... and my bet is on roaches, since these are more resistant to the pollution and radiation.

I wonder how long would it take to release an update if he never made the engine switch. After all, one of the reasons to switch was quicker updates.

The stall in development is clearly a result of poor planning of the story.
The scope of the story was not small to start with. You're a general and you seduce the king's daughters (and possibly 1-2 side romances). This is premise is actually complicated but is still a manageable story complexity.
Now the scope of the story involves 3 of the king's daughters, the old queen, the old queen's best friend, your old romance, your personal servant, your masseuse, the dev's pet fetish girl, 2-3 side romances, 3 external factions (with their own romance options), your kingdom's trade partners, daughters & sisters of the side characters, your military officers, scheming diplomats, a gay male heir, at least one deity, your alternate-dimension female incarnation, a robotic terminator from the future, and a pet turtle.
It probably can't be salvaged unless someone with more focus comes in to cut through the thicket here and get back to some kind of core story.
