My mother's father was career Army who got up to Lt Col in Special forces during Vietnam. Yeah, he was a Green Beret. He started out in ROTC when he was in HS went to college and joined after he messed up his ankle playing college football. Both sides of the family looked up to him until he passed away. My dad was the co-pilot in an F-4 Phantom. He's still around. Retired. During Vietnam he didn't sit around to get drafted and get thrown into the meat grinder. He voluntarily enlisted so he could choose where he wanted to go. My bother never saw combat. He was stationed in South Korea for a decade. He was a Combat Medic who never saw combat. LOL! Though he did go to Iraq for a few weeks.
That's an incredible story, Especially about your brother. You see, back in the day, my first tour of duty was in South Korea, stationed at Camp Hovey, roughly 25 miles off the DMZ (which we had to March to to begin our 3 month police patrols). I Also was a Combat Medic and was So glad that nothing junped off, although we had a couple of close callls. I did do temporary duty in Honduras where the Contra rebels were active in Nicaragua. I also did my thing a few months later in Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Seems our paths were similar. Because dependent loved ones seldom hear this, I say to you and yours: Thank You for Your service of support and stability for the military members of the family. Without strong military families, doing deployments would be difficult, particularly when the assignments are hazardous.

I only visited one time about 15 years ago. It was my one trip to Korea. My mom, uncle, aunt, grandma and grandfather lived in Korea back in the 60s I think. Back when it was basically a 3rd World Country.
If you thought that was bad 15 years ago, You'd have thought that it was the Stone Ages when I was there in the late-80s!!! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Just teasing but seriously, you have to keep in mind that the country was not that far removed from the Korean War. A lot of stuff had to be rebuilt and their economy was being propped up by the UN. Your parents and grandparents are made of sturdy stuff. Listen and learn from them. They have the values that seem to be lost in this country today.

When I wen there it was nice. I enjoyed myself. My brother took me to that American Town place in Seoul. I can't remember the same. It was fun. Though 22 hours on a flight there was not. LOL!
