This review is really useful for me. I never tried Artemis because, while I like sci-fi and fantasy, I don't enjoy porn in those settings. However, with how popular it is, sometimes I couldn't help but think whether I'm missing out. However, this:

I couldn’t get on with the girls curing cancer by day and running a full-on debauched sorority by night.
would cause the same reaction out of me as it did out of you, so I won't question it in the future.

I don't think there's too much porn in this, in comparison to a lot of "similar" games, at least. It also didn't feel like a sci-fi setting - it was pretty much contemporary, but then there's some futuristic tech as one element of it.

Guess you already played Radiant then. I‘ll just recommend Reclaiming the lost to you.
I did try Radiant, but gave up with it when it didn't seem to be going anywhere. Reclaiming the Lost is on my list already though. I do have Lost at Birth which I was planning to review when the next update came out, but the dev seems to have gone silent on that I think, it was supposed to be out a month ago...

I've never been sure on that one. Admittedly, my main issue with father–daughter games is they tend to skew towards loli daughters, and I'm not a fan of that. This one doesn't look like it has that issue at least. I got a bit bored with Melody though, and it kind of put me off a bit.
Honestly, I don't like loli either, but if you didn't like Melody, you certainly won't like this one.

Artemis by digi.B

This has probably got to be my biggest disappointment so far. Artemis is one of those games that always gets mentioned when people are talking about the best or just giving recommendations, and it looked genuinely good for me and my tastes. Sadly, high praise and love from the community is no guarantee of success, and I ended up just not getting on with the story, and, to a lesser degree, the graphics. I actually gave up with the game before I even got to meet Artemis!

I’m pretty good at suspending disbelief when playing games, and the military-grade AI technology being worked on at college/university was one thing, but I couldn’t get on with the girls curing cancer by day and running a full-on debauched sorority by night. I’m not saying it can’t happen, but there just seemed to be a massive disconnect between these party girls and the high-up office execs of their alter egos.

I didn’t really get attached to any of the characters – the girls were nice but I generally found something a little off-putting about each of them. The graphics were a bit weird for me, too, as I was expecting so much more. Half the time when I was playing I felt like I had a heavily compressed version, despite running the full-fat game. There was at least one scene where I noticed a disclaimer at the top saying it had been updated, and the graphics did look sharper, to be fair.

I also didn’t like some of the gameplay. Mostly it was okay, but the free-roam parts felt a bit haphazard and sometimes it wasn’t clear what the objective was. Overall, I’m glad I tried this one out, but I’m sad that it didn’t work out better for me.

I will actually comment a little bit on this one - re: the story, it did start off feeling.... bipolar? Like it couldn't figure out what it wanted to be. College romp fuckfest? Story based sci-fi game? Slice of life? As it progressed it settled into it's own thing, but I do think in the very beginning it was fairly all over the place. That's mostly settled now... which combines with problem #2 - the graphics. I am by no means the pillar of Good Art(tm) (You've played my first game, you know!) but even I balked at the beginning of this one - as it turns out the creator at the time was suffering a fairly serious eye issue which required corrective surgery - he's since gotten said surgery and as a result the later stuff looks much better. I know he's mentioned at some point wanting to fix the older stuff, but idk too many details on it beyond that.

Oh, that's good to know. You can never be sure, but then I'm also playing Thief of Hearts and it's not setting a high bar for me (though it's still earlyish).

Totally agree on the start, it really did feel like that. I think I saw something about going back and reworking the earlier graphics, too. And in terms of a graphics comparison, this one felt like it was good graphics but at a low quality, as opposed to slightly lower end graphics (which I might have said in the review for Alive is not a problem in itself). For the story, I figured it might be one of those that settles down once it finds its feet, but it's another of those cases where it's not done enough to take me through to that point, so I'll never find out.

This list is seriously great. Looks like you and I have very similar tastes. I would recommend "Leaving DNA" if you have not checked it out. Thanks again for the list, there are a few games I was not aware of.

Thanks! And yes, Leaving DNA is on my list. I'm trying to get that list below 400 games by the end of the year, but I don't think I'll manage it, especially with some anticipated updates coming (I just installed Law School!). Currently down to 410 though!

Law School by MisterMaya

This has turned out to be a bit of a gem, and I’m happy to induct it into my top ten list now I’ve played the second episode – there’s enough content for me to say I’m happy with what I’ve seen so far and I’m very optimistic for what’s still to come. I enjoyed The Entrepreneur, but already here the level of storytelling and gameplay feels improved, and while the graphics were already great in The Entrepreneur, again they just feel that little bit better here.

Starting with the girls then, there are a couple of good-looking ones here and that’s it… Everyone else is better than just good-looking. There are some real stunners here, and I really like that there are several girls whose personalities and stories I like too, so there’s a fantastic combination. Seriously, this might be my favourite game just in terms of the LIs overall, but that’s one it probably is a little early to be saying.

The sex scenes are not too frequent, at least at the moment, but they have generally been okay, if maybe a little short. Some of the non-lewds have been the best though, with some real tension and feeling shown between the characters.

There’s some good humour in the writing, and I love that there are a couple of different characters providing the main comic relief. One is female, and it feels quite refreshing, as she is the MC’s best friend, and it’s a role we so often see played by another male. Although some of the subject matter is serious, the game is clearly a light-hearted one, and there are several times where you get exaggerated actions which raise a smile. Things like characters being pushed away to shut them up and you literally see them fall out of view off the edge of the screen.

Talking of being serious though, I like how (so far at least) this game has managed to give us a compelling bunch of characters and a simple but engaging storyline without needing to follow the tired tropes that so many other games like this one revert to – drugs, prostitution, rape, corrupt police, friends with murderous histories, etc.

One last thing that I quite like here as something a little different, is when someone is recapping events that happened previously. Some stuff will happen involving the MC, so you see it all, but later he will tell a friend who wasn’t there. Usually, you might get a transition screen and a line of narrative that says “ten minutes later” or something, to show that the story has been told. Here, you do get a transition screen, but it just holds the frame and drops in three images – frames from those previous events – to show what MC is recapping. I liked this, I think it worked nicely, and just felt a little different.

Overall, I’ve really enjoyed this game so far, and I can’t wait to continue it. I’m pretty comfortable for the moment, but soon I’m going to have to go back and start creating additional saves as I’m going to want a path for each of the available LIs. At the moment though, I feel there hasn’t been a cut-off point, so although there have been a couple of choices that mean you miss some content with one LI or another, I don’t think there’s anything yet that would close off a path, or be absolutely vital in order to get onto a particular path.

Are you a graphic designer by any chance? The layout of the lists look really good and well-organized. Keep it up!

I'm thinking of making my own list aswell. you take the screenshots of the girls ingame or do you get them from the forum?
I screenshot as I'm playing, but then I'll often go into the game/images folder (using unren if necessary) to get the actual images as it's quicker to visually skim through those for an image that might work, and they're bigger than the screenshots I take, as I play windowed. Then I just put them into my PhotoShop template, resize them to fit, occasionally up the brightness, and change the text.

Disclaimer: It is highly likely that the sexy times derailed my thinking and that aspect of the game really catered to my tastes I admit.

I understand your point about the disconnect between the day and night life personas/activities. Until I saw you mention this, I have to be honest I almost didn't even notice this (the fact that these lives should be highly unlikely even more so that we are talking about multiple girls). I think I went with the flow of super fiction sci-fi from the first release, or maybe I just really like sci-fi, but my disbelief didn't even got triggered (just for reference Iron Man's arc reactor triggers it, and I have to suspend the disbelief consciously).

As for the visual issues, I did not notice, and while I will not replay it now (on a 1440p monitor), I will keep an eye out. I think I also felt an improvement in visuals, but I think mostly the objects, environments, clothes used in scenes, not in render-technical details.

Overall as I remember it, I started folllowing this game from the first release and it felt okay back then (so maybe I have the added positive note of perspective for a game that keeps delivering in a landscape where so many games go abandoned so soon). After that I distinctly remeber each major update siignificantly outperforming my expectations, which in turn increased my expectations for each new update. Now I think I have such high expectations that probably the developer cannot outperform them anymore. And this just means that in my book each update was on a noticeably higher level than the previous. You stating that you haven't even met Artemis suggests that you did not play v0.5, or even v0.4 iirc, which makes me sad. I hope that one day you find the motivation to play until the end of v0.5. If you still don't like it at that point, I will rest my case.
