Recommending TonyMurray's Favourite Games and Favourite Girls

I don’t see the value in multiple playthroughs for the different paths unless there is a good degree of difference between them. Here, the replay gallery comes in useful to show you what you might otherwise miss, although it does of course exclude the story elements.

The main difference is in the endings - the endings of some of the different paths is *very* significant - the rest of the game plays pretty similarly store-wise until the end.

The most memorable thing about this game is how even subpar visuals can be completely salvaged by good writing. Stacy's path is fairly different from the others story-wise, and I genuinely liked how Mary was written, she's one of my fav AVN blondes. Also, like I already mentioned in Milton's thread, I ended up on her path by accident; I took Nikki's path first, but the MC got cockblocked so many times that I thought it was fate and switched to Mary who didn't disappoint.

So, I can definitely recommend this game to everyone who wants to play a completed game.

Honestly I'm happy to hear this - it's what I'm aiming for. I *know* I don't produce the best visuals out there, and I'm okay with that (I try to improve obviously, I think NSL represents a definite step up from Alive, but still not top tier by any means), so my goal is to make up for it with better than average writing. As long as I accomplish that, I feel like I've achieved my goals.

The Scheme of Betrayal by Fronz

I played this game a little while back and thought it looked fantastic, but it had some language issues, with Russian dialogue left in the game on a few occasions. Now the new update (0.3) has been released, I gave it another go from the start and I’m pleased to say those issues have been resolved (except for one that the dev is going to sort out).

This is definitely a slow burn game. It’s not one to go for (at the moment at least) if you’re looking for lots of nudes and sex scenes. So far, there are two sex scenes and a small number of additional nudes, but those are mostly nip slips rather than anything more intentional. I didn’t actually like the sex scenes that much – the animation looked a little weird on the blowjob in the second of these, and neither scene was that long.

That aside though, the girls are great – or at least, they look great. A couple of them are definitely of questionable character, but I guess that’s in the name of the game. The story is a bit slow in places, and I would say too slow sometimes. Dealing with an MC with amnesia can be a bit problematic, but here I don’t think it was handled brilliantly, with some odd dialogue and choices made by all.

So far, it’s not my favourite story, but depending on how the next couple of updates go, it could turn out to be a good one. There’s definitely potential there, if the dev can reach it. At the moment though, it’s definitely the girls who carry this game, and so long as we see more of them (a lot more, in some cases), I’m okay with that for the time being.

I, like you, liked the graphics, but that the only good thing I found about the game. The plot and dialogues seemed to me a total mess.

Girls arguing:
- "You make it sound like I'm some kind of terrorist."
- "I'm as calm as a cucumber."

Evil doctors can into humor:
doctor #1: "Who is it? That fucking psycho?"
doctor #2: "Worse. Some two chicks."

Ashley to the MC: "Put on your three-weeks-old boxers and let's go."

The Boss scolds Ashley for not doing the mission well. Ashley is as rude as a rebel schoolgirl to a teacher.
The Boss: "People were killed. You can't kill people just because they said something wrong of tried to do something with your partner. The priority is to neutralize not to kill."
Ashley: "Fucking amazing. Too dense to hear what others tell him. He's even ignoring the facts."

The old idiot wants "to neutralize not to kill," so he sends a team of three, armed with the silenced guns. Yeah, the silenced guns are the best choice for neutralization without a killing.

Are these brilliant examples of the dev's creativity still there?

Agreed, I like the games with amazing graphics, but I prefer the games that have less-good graphics (in comparison) but actually give you a good game. I did feel that a couple of the girls were too easy here, but it wasn't a problem for the gameplay.

I think it's a wise choice. Imo, writing is the most important thing in an AVN, and compensates for any flaws the best.

I definitely remember the cucumber line from playing the game a couple days ago, and the Boss/Ashley fight is one of my main gripes with it.

Sometimes you get a game, harem or otherwise, where the MC is just lucky in everything relating to money and women, and it’s just too ridiculous. Here, you have all of that and more, but one tiny plot point explains it all, and it makes it sort of okay, so long as you don’t try to ascribe any actual realism to the story.

The game is inspired by the movie of the same name, the MC comes into possession of a batch of pills that allow him to use 100% of his brain instead of the usual 10% – a power that he uses to massively increase his bank balance and buy a new look, new property, and new vehicles. The pills also make him very attractive to the opposite sex, which comes with the added benefit of increased powers of persuasion.

For a fun game, it’s actually quite a cool idea. You get funny little bits like a flashback to the MC as a kid watching subtitled martial arts movies, and his new powers take that several levels up to the point he can now understand someone speaking Chinese. Or he’ll be able to cook to rival a Michelin-starred chef because he’s watched the meals be prepared on a cookery show, that sort of thing.

Usually, the girls all falling at the MC’s feet, having sex pretty much right after meeting him, agreeing to share him with the other women and all move in together would be too much. With the powers of the pills explaining it away, it is still too much, but it fits the story, and that’s important. The girls themselves are mostly pretty, although a few are too young-looking for me, and they all have lewd scenes of some description. I sadly struggled to find good nude images to match my usual card style for most of them however.

The graphics are towards the lower end of this style, but I’ve said before that I don’t mind that if everything else makes up for it, like they did here. The gameplay is fine, with easy off-ramps if there are LIs you don’t want to be involved with, and the suggestion that threesomes will be available if you do want them (there are a couple of pairs that you can have threesomes with already, but may be more combinations to come, and perhaps additional numbers involved).*

All in all, I quite enjoyed this one as a fun game to play. (Oh, and I forgot to add on the obligatory "Twins, Basil. Twins!" for Josie and Lucy.)

I did miss that - I don't tend to check out the threads until I've finished playing a game/update, as I don't want to get spoilers etc. Who was removed from your harem? I didn't see any that might have given that impression, and I pretty much said yes to everyone as a first (and likely only) playthrough.

I added an April path that disappeared. (Not sure if it will come back or not), and I suspect Amanda/Chloe are gone too. But I'm waiting to see what happens in future updates.

Ah, I didn't get an option for Amanda or Chloe, but they're in the relationships tracker on the phone so I figured I'd bump into them again. April still brought in the opportunity for a date, we swapped numbers, but there's been no sign of her since - I just put that down to not enough time passed though.

I thought I checked the coding with the last update and the path was gone, but maybe I didn't.

I just checked what he said, if you left out Naomi and Mia (they stayed out), but if you left out Rita & Lateysha (they were added in). He said it was to do with making double renders, but thinking about it now that doesn't make sense. Rita & Lateysha weren't living with you so there is no double up of renders in house, while Naomi & Mia were, so he still would have to do double renders of house scenes. That seems backwards to me now I think about it?

Maybe I just assumed because he was trying to cut down on branching he wouldn't add the others. It wouldn't make sense to me to add more LIs when he thinks there is too much already.

This is a game that I really wanted to like. That seems a bit odd to say, because I want to like every game I play, otherwise what’s the point in trying it out? Here though, there were some really nice graphics, some really nice LIs, and some really nice themes that I generally enjoy and want to see more of, but sadly, the game itself just didn’t work for me.

You have a harem game, which normally for me means I don’t have to trouble myself with multiple playthroughs for all the different paths, but this one was just too simple. The MC receives a letter from his late father, and it says he wanted to create a harem, but missed his opportunity, so why don’t you (MC) take up the reins and do it instead? Oh, and wouldn’t it be great if you got all the women in it pregnant too? (I paraphrase, but really not a lot). Then you have the loving fiancée, who out of nowhere says that she would get turned on by the MC fooling around with other women. You need to call to let her know first, or if that’s not possible, let her know soon after. It’s not even in a “she wants to watch” capacity, although that is mentioned in passing, giving the impression it’s a possible next phase in the fetish for her.

Combined with some other bits of writing (most notably being the massive ease at getting into everyone’s knickers, whether they are family members, colleagues and execs at work, or whatever) it meant that I just couldn’t get close to any of the LIs and as a result couldn’t get into the game.

I also found some technical issues, and I don’t know whether it has anything to do with patches, but I had the same thing happen in another game recently where I was asked to input my MC name at the beginning of the game, but periodically the game would override this. So in this one, I would have “Tony” speaking, then in the next frame it would be “John” – but if I roll back to the previous frame saying “Tony” then go forward again, it would stay as “Tony”… This one also failed for me on the “landlady”, “roommate”, and “friend” relationships. I know why it’s done, but it was poorly done for me here, because you would have “aunt” replaced with “friend”, for instance. This meant that the MC would go around calling people “friend Mel” or saying “hi friend” (“pal” and “buddy” were also used a couple of times for what I assume would have been “sis” and “bro” or similar). With these, where you allow relationships to be defined, it’s often a lot easier to just use names, otherwise it starts to sound very unnatural once brought into dialogue.

Back to the LIs though, and I thought these were generally nice, although it seemed lewds were spread out a lot so you might only get one or maybe two with most of the LIs. This includes the fiancée, who was largely absent, so as well as not watching the MC with another woman, she only actually had a couple of lewd scenes herself, half of which were solo scenes while talking to the MC on the phone about his escapades with some other woman. I think the name thing is due to whether the name is recorded as a persistent variable or as a regular variable, and sometimes it's both. I'm not sure what the entirety of circumstance is but you can have the default value for the variable pulled up sometimes, perhaps due to one of the files getting reloaded during the playthrough or maybe something else, then the persistent gets referenced properly later on. Also sometimes the dev isn't referencing a name or relationship via a variable setting and has some code where they typed it in explicitly which uses whatever that value is. When that happens it is definitely disconcerting.

No idea, the weird bit was that it's like the game knew it had messed up, because it would fix itself if I scrolled back a frame or two to when it last used the correct name and then went back to the frame that used the incorrect (default) one. So it's definitely not a case of using a different variable in two different places, it was the exact same place. The previous game (I can't remember what it was) got so bad that I stopped trying to change it, it was adamant that I was to be called (I think) Peter...

The Awakening by SLim Games

This is a game that frustrated me a bit. I was initially enjoying it – it has good graphics, some nice LIs, and a reasonable story – but then the sandbox element spoiled it for me. It starts off with a linear story, and you make choices as you go that will determine some of the early relationship building with the girls. Once you get to a certain point though, it becomes a sandbox game, and it suffers from one of the two main issues I have with sandbox games.

Once you hit this point, you run the risk of getting scenes and dialogue that do not check for prerequisites. In a non-sandbox game, you shouldn’t get this, as you generally have to complete A before moving on to B anyway (dependent on choices, perhaps). Here, I had a conversation about the money I was earning at the post office when I had never even visited the post office, let alone taken on a job there. I had a conversation about the time I broke into a safe in the teacher’s office, when I had not done this. I had a thought about the time I used lockpicks to get into the mom’s bedroom, when I had not even bought the lockpicks, or had them available to buy. There were more examples as well, but suffice it to say it completely ruined the immersion and the story for me.

The other issue I have with sandbox games, by the way, wasn’t too bad here. There’s a hints menu you can easily access that tells you in vague terms (progress with X character first, go talk to X at the bar, etc.) what you need to do to move on with each LI – and it’s only about the LIs, as progressing with them is the story.

Which brings me on to the story itself, and it’s a basic one, but it works. You had a terrible accident, a love fairy (for plot reasons that are explained early on) saves your life at the expense of her powers. You have to take power by fucking women and then give it to the fairy by fucking her. There are some advantages that the fairy gives you in this, as you have a power of corruption/suggestion that can be used to push women into ignoring their inhibitions, for instance. You also get some x-ray vision, which is one of the better examples I’ve seen in games. It sometimes takes away a layer of clothing, showing you underwear, and sometimes takes away more to show you nudity – but it’s not like some other games where you push a button and you get the entire render changed, showing the same pose for the girls but they’re sometimes in a different outfit entirely.

The girls themselves are mostly hot, although a few (notably the more mature ladies) are too “booby” for my tastes. A couple did change a bit, with Juliet in particular changing hairstyle (and breasts, or at least nipple design) and ending up looking much less desirable to me. There’s a good variety and number of girls available, and you can do things with most of them. Even the ones you only bump into once (store assistants, for example) and don’t do anything with will usually still have an x-ray opportunity so you can perv on them a bit more.

Despite initially enjoying this, I lost interest after playing the sandbox part for a while, so I’m not going to continue with the game any further.

Another Man’s Wife by Too Perilous

I’d had this game downloaded and unplayed for quite a while and decided I needed to play it or delete it, and I’m both happy and sad that I chose to play it. Happy because it was relatively decent, but mostly because it gave me a surprise. Sad because it got abandoned so there’s no real resolution, with unfinished scenes in the game itself and then further scenes in the gallery that just add confusion.

The game itself has pretty standard swinging/swapping/hotwifing concept (I use the three because you get to the end of the playable content before fully being able to define where you’re going with it), but I quite like the set up of it. On the one hand, it takes a while for the couple to take the plunge after a pretty lengthy discussion about it, which feels right, but on the other hand, when they do it seems way too fast.

This is perhaps explained in the bit that properly surprised me. There’s a pretty lengthy (by AVN standards) scene that I thought was really well done where it was just the couple talking, and mostly the wife opening up and exposing some secrets that have been eating her up. I really liked this, although it did come with a bit of confusion as to how it led to the couple experimenting with an open marriage. I just really liked the raw honesty and the emotional element of this scene in isolation, it actually made me feel something for the wife. There was another, much shorter, scene with another female character before this that also worked quite well in the same way.

As far as the game goes, the mechanics are a bit unusual in that you have confidence points and you have points for each of the three girls you spend any good amount of time with, but these reset at various points. You go into a scene and it might feel a bit random as to whether you’ll have high, medium, or low confidence, and confidence can affect the choices that come up. Resetting the Steph (wife) points is a bit weird too, especially in the circumstances it happens, where it feels like a plus point or two is warranted but instead it’s a minus 9 or 10.

The graphics are pretty standard, and the girls okay, although I can’t help feeling that Amber’s head is from someone else’s body! The scenes and animations are decent enough without wowing, and I feel this could have been a good game had it continued. There’s a non-sex related side story regarding insider trading at the MC’s place of work, and that could have added an interesting aspect away from the open-marriage scene, but then the bonus ending scene in the gallery focuses on this and it feels like it has no relation to the game whatsoever and just adds a lot more confusion to what I had been playing...

This has probably got to be my biggest disappointment so far. Artemis is one of those games that always gets mentioned when people are talking about the best or just giving recommendations, and it looked genuinely good for me and my tastes. Sadly, high praise and love from the community is no guarantee of success, and I ended up just not getting on with the story, and, to a lesser degree, the graphics. I actually gave up with the game before I even got to meet Artemis!

I’m pretty good at suspending disbelief when playing games, and the military-grade AI technology being worked on at college/university was one thing, but I couldn’t get on with the girls curing cancer by day and running a full-on debauched sorority by night. I’m not saying it can’t happen, but there just seemed to be a massive disconnect between these party girls and the high-up office execs of their alter egos.

I didn’t really get attached to any of the characters – the girls were nice but I generally found something a little off-putting about each of them. The graphics were a bit weird for me, too, as I was expecting so much more. Half the time when I was playing I felt like I had a heavily compressed version, despite running the full-fat game. There was at least one scene where I noticed a disclaimer at the top saying it had been updated, and the graphics did look sharper, to be fair.

I also didn’t like some of the gameplay. Mostly it was okay, but the free-roam parts felt a bit haphazard and sometimes it wasn’t clear what the objective was. Overall, I’m glad I tried this one out, but I’m sad that it didn’t work out better for me.

This review is really useful for me. I never tried Artemis because, while I like sci-fi and fantasy, I don't enjoy porn in those settings. However, with how popular it is, sometimes I couldn't help but think whether I'm missing out. However, this:
