If you're a subscriber, I can understand the frustration around the lack of updates. But even so, I can only shake my head at the amount of work authors/creators must be putting into a reasonably decent VN such that they're making something of a profit. To me it's all black box numbers and most of the time I think these folks end up in the red. Obviously there are exceptions, but those seem to be a minority. As such, setting aside RL events like illnesses and such, it's not a surprise that there's an enormous gap in time between updates - sometimes signalling that a product is indeed dead. Give it another six months, and then you'll know for certain and can move on.

Another six months? It's been almost 2 years?

And his last "status" update is October this year. At least he's saying something on Patreon. You should see other devs who literally ghost their subscriber base for years with Zero Updates - absolute Radio Silence. I'm not excusing this guy, but if you're looking for extremes, he's not that far from the middle of the curve if you will. Still does absolutely zero for anyone still subscribing though.

Dude let´s be real. The time it takes to make a post is shorter than a walk to the toilet.
You can even write a psot on a mobile phone. And if it is only a short text like: Hey i am alive and i am still working on it.
2 important infos. How is he and is he still working on it.
A short update once a month is not too much.

Literally, you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. I work part time for a software studio that's part of a AAA franchise title (not in this genre) - and we have to constantly make internal calls about saying or not saying anything progress wise. Sometimes, radio silence is the better of the two choices. We have five products that are being talked up in a variety of progress stages. We can go months without talking about one of them until we feel that this is a status or progress or a screencap worth raising. It's not lost us customers - and that point is particularly notable here in f95zone given likely 9/10 users here aren't paying customers for any given title.

I still remember that the dev stated his goal to release the still pending update LAST November (2024). I think unless dev can realize significant changes to his life circumstances, that the plug should be pulled on this title. The development of this game will only take MORE effort as it progresses due to branching with so many characters, so it would be best to stop now if early game chapters cannot be developed at reasonable pace. Turn his attention to more productive endeavors that bring him happiness.

I don't think he's motivated to work on the game, he probably don't want to abandon it but I don't see this going anywhere, last dev update was 10th October and silence after.
Hope I'm wrong but I can't see this having a steady work flow ever.

The Abandoned Tag has pulled the Yellow and Black Striped Handle for him/her. There's no need to take any further action on their part - there's no impetus for them to do so, no consequence at least here at f95zone. I mean, you know the authors who have abandoned their work, then continue on to something else without any regard at all for the legacy items they left behind. It's simply an occupational peril. That's not to excuse behavior such as stringing along subscribers if they're present however.

Where's CKR?

I haven't been seen much of late and just wanted to give you a quick explanation. I've recently been recovering from meningitis and a (separate) lower spine injury. I've mostly being stuck in bed so I haven't been able to be at the PC much. I'll be fine, it's just been frustrating.
Hope you all have a great holiday season, and stay healthier than me!
Be back soon. (pun not originally intended, but now it's intended)

Before that, he didn't seem to be doing much work on the game because he was focused on the gym. Before that, I think he was focused on mental health? That's all totally his prerogative, but it feels like the game is fairly low priority for him.

You forgot to mention he apparently had "seasonal" carpal tunnel syndrome and supposedly hurt his foot doing something. :sneaky:

seasonal joint pain is a thing though. i just think, as great as the game's story is, there is so many damn characters. Given the rate of development, this game would ended up being abandoned just from how many characters are in it

Oh, I know, so are severe illnesses, car accidents, losing saved data, dead mothers, burning computers, dogs eating homework, and any number of other unfortunate incidents. And it's quite impressive how often all those things always seem to happen so frequently to game developers. I mean shit, if I owned a life insurance company I'd put that particular occupation on the "do not cover" list along with professional daredevils and people with pre-existing heart conditions.
