mods go in the mods folder. you either place them into the characters folder or the maps folder
character mods go in the characters folder
map mods go in the maps folder

For what it's worth, the 0.5 changelog (not 0.51--check the OP for 0.5 info) says the lack of male characters is a known issue at the moment.
This developer always handled updates like this, releasing a new version with more features and customization but each subsequent update would only have one or two characters, and characters from previous versions were often removed. This is nothing new. The big assortment of characters we had in the 0.4 versions were mostly from modders adding them all back in.
Even though it's disappointing, it makes some sense if you think about it: he was probably focused entirely on female bodies and making sure all of the clothing options and new mechanics/features were functional. Maybe he understood how long it's been since the last update, how his fans have been getting impatient, and maybe he thought "I can either release what I have now, or take another few months to work on the male characters. I'll release now and add in male characters when they're ready"
Of course I am entirely speculating, I could be completely wrong. But the fact that he listed it as a "known issue" tells us that he plans to bring back male characters.
Anyways, give it a few days and I'll bet some of the modders in this thread will have male models jury-rigged back in. Probably some of the old characters, too.

Yeah, I'm not too fond of everyone pissing their pants over trivial things like it now being futa x futa/futa x female. Who gives a shit about that? Why are you still here if it's such a problem with you? Honestly I wish someone like a moderator or an admin would make a separate thread for the old version so all these people complaining like literal children would be sectioned off to their own little group off to the side.

I don't know what the fixes are, but the FPS has not increased and the game has become even more glitchy, the interface bugs every couple minutes.

It's not because people who like futa live in echo chambers that it means everyone like futa (far from it), game was straight oriented, now it is futa oriented, it's perfectly normal that some people are butthurt about the change (especially since the game is still tagged as male protagonist, and doesn't have the futa tag)
I 'd understand your comment if we were on a lesbian game and people were asking for dicks or a gay game and people asking for vaggie. But we are on a straight game with surprise, unplanned, unannounced futa.
If the next update is male only, will you be happy about it?

The tutorial scene mentioned spells and such to modify the body. Seems like futa is temporary and can be toggled for every character. There's no male MC right now, but there's also only three models from what I saw, so it's definitely going through a remake process and the old content is likely going to be added in as soon as they can manage
