1.0 sounds like finished game, 0.10 sounds proper, obvious that that's the version after 0.9

Ackchyually, that is a version number, not a usual decimal. The usual, but not always, format is x.y.z, where x is for major change, y for minor change and z for some hotfix or patches. So, v0.10 is the one after v0.9.
I always see people think v0.9 is near the end of the game.

Just use gallery unlock to unlock the gallery, you can use the universal gallery unlock if you want, it works for most games, even this one works fine.

You don't miss anything. That being said if you mix and match the characterisation of the mc might end up a bit weird. Additionally there are some choices that will force you into either route if you pick them. So all in all I recommend just sticking with one and replaying if you want to see the other.
