I have always found the game unclear in terms of how to progess but that encourages experimentation and adds to the charm. The current chapter however I just find super frustrating and I have never managed to play more than an hour without giving up in exasperation at a failure to trigger anything much of interest. It seems like every interaction requires me having items/monocoins but no way to get them, is the only way to progess to cheat? Is the only way to get into the city to borrow money? and doesn't that lead to a game over after 3 days? how do I know if I'm supposed to take dusty with me or leave him outside? Is there any point staying outside the city as I've tried going through days just doing that and nothing intersting happens? This is probably just me playing it incorrectly but I just find it exasperrating and wanted to vent somewhere.

I know exactly what you're talking about, and with each version, the game is becoming more forgiving of the player. In the next version (Which has already been released), the player has the opportunity to relax around campfires to replenish their health, more interactions and events, more quests and activities, and, accordingly, more options on how to earn Monocoins.
In the version that I'm doing now, the focus will be on the main plot, as well as big plays of various groups (Bandits, the Poor, various interactions with the gods and improving their influence).
Unfortunately, I cannot follow only one storyline in order to finish the others later, as the game is variable and completing one quest or another will affect the gaming experience of each player individually, and I pay a lot of attention to this. If it's hard for you to play this version, you can just wait.
There was a similar problem in chapter 1, but it was less noticeable, since it was more linear and was done by the day, while chapter 2 is an open sandbox. Subscribers want to see different things, and I try to focus on each of them at least a little bit.
Over time, the game will be filled with a lot of content, I promise you that, you just have to wait.

Is there like a walkthrough or some sort of cheat? I cannot even get out of the first village still, also like real-time gating elements of the game that you need to use to make money or get water, is so unbelievably annoying to deal with. Its like the game itself doesn't want to be played.

Many thanks for the reply, I'm glad it's just an issue of it still being a work in progess. I understand why you need to bring out updates but for me it sounds like I'll be better served wating for you to complete the chapter and have the story set out in a way you're happy with before playing again. I hope you didn't take anything I said as a critism. I am a great admirer of your works and looking forward to seeing where the story goes and what indignities we can heap on Lola and Dusty.
Criticism is normal, I'm not bothered by it. Well, I have a plan and I stick to it, or at least I try.
After the burning of the beastmen village and the moment when the 2 main characters unite into a team, will it be possible to play as a cat again?
Not at the moment, but for Lola you can. Will there be such an opportunity? In some events, yes.

If you somehow beat the whatever that was in the fleshpit be prepared to suffer the screams of the damned for all eternity

You can win and play, but there is another problem. You can't save, but this bug will be fixed in the next update.

The saving worked fine after i beat it
However the screaming sound effect that was in the fight never went away i played a solid 15 minutes so i don't think it's just that the sound effect has to finish playing but rather that the sound effect was permanently looping
It will take place after the descent into the dungeon or the "special" battles in Chapter 2.
You don't need to go there at all. You could have come here earlier and gone downstairs, or brought the rope from the first chapter.
