This is normal.Last 2 updates, I have had to start from the beginning????? Ignore / rollback, nothing. Anyone have an answer. Have not change pc or messed with the game. Thanks.
I went with "Ignore" and everything went normal, apart from transitions not skipping which wasn't the end of the world anyway.Last 2 updates, I have had to start from the beginning????? Ignore / rollback, nothing. Anyone have an answer. Have not change pc or messed with the game. Thanks.
WHY is this "normal"?This is normal.
If this causes you significant discomfort, you can play the final version later.
This is normal because writing is rewriting. The game is in active development.WHY is this "normal"?
My guess is for transferring correctly the persistent files? If it is that, it works perfectly fine.I don't know why we are asked to save just before the end of content when we will just have to start from the beginning again?
just wondering how many years later?(That's a question without any negative context)later

dont be hard on yourself mate. your product is high level...Well, maybe I’m making very small updates, but that’s the maximum I can manage. I have a cool idea for the ending, and I will see it through. This will be my voice. Your saves will never work, because that’s the nature of a flexible creative process.
Have to call you out on being disingenuous on this point.Your saves will never work, because that’s the nature of a flexible creative process.
You have a very rich imagination, a lot of negativity, and no understanding of how games are made.Have to call you out on being disingenuous on this point.
The developer of any game knows exactly what changes have been made from one update to the next. Therefore, adding a little bit of code (or having someone help them do it) to the save import process to carry player choices into the new version is not really all that diffucult - it's just that some devs can't be bothered to do it.
It is a conscious choice made knowing full well that it is tantamount to giving longtime players of a game (i.e., the game/dev's biggest fans) the middle finger and saying "fuck you I don't care about your time or if you decide to quit playing my game because I don't care about you at all" right to their faces. It is NOT an unavoidable part of the "creative process" as you are suggesting.
At least be honest and say "I don't care if I make my games hard to like because my actions (not my words) consistently tell players that I don't care about their time and frustration."
If game saves were never meant to work until after a game was completed then the feature wouldn't be in uncompleted games. A dev either cares about player experience or does not care, and regular save-breaking is probably the biggest "I don't care" flag in AVN's because importing variable data from old versions is not difficult at all even when older code has been modified because the dev knows exactly where/how it has been modified since the previous update.
If Ren'py itself undergoes a major update, players expect old saves not to work because the code has changed significantly in ways beyond dev control. But trying to conflate that kind of (infrequent) legitimate save-breaking with devs choosing not to bother adapting to their own coding changes between normal updates is dishonest.![]()
I mean, if almost all other AVNs have their older saves compatible with new versions (the only time they're not is because of major code changes), then why aren't yours compatible? You have a very rich imagination, a lot of negativity, and no understanding of how games are made.
I honestly don't know what to tell you. There are many possible reasons why old saves might not work, almost always related to the code and they don't require major changes to break the saves. To name a few:I mean, if almost all other AVNs have their older saves compatible with new versions (the only time they're not is because of major code changes), then why aren't yours compatible?
