Seeing how divisive these characters seem to be, I'm hoping that the developers can figure out a way to incorporate peoples preferences into the game without the need to "water down" characters. Not sure how battling the different characters will be linked together, but I'm guessing all opponent characters will have to be battled and defeated to complete the game, but maybe the option to turn off erotic scenes for specific characters would suffice?

But then again as mentioned, the merchant is likely just a side character and final character models will likely look quite a bit different compared to the concept drawings. So maybe the main opponents will turn out to suit vanilla tastes either way

You should also consider that a lot of people here have in the past have supported game developers on their patrons only to have the projects put onhold forever and even outright abandoned, dont beleive me go check over half the threads on this site for proof

Its all a case by case, i completely agree with you but at the same time this whole early access society that we as consumers live in has left a poor taste in peoples mouths. At the end of the day all we can do is hope that how and when we support content provides enough of an example for others and a reason for developers to continue.
At the same time it goes both ways, hoping that creators dont abuse their fans like a certain person whos name rhymes with soda and or someone who rhymes with toe

I don't want to knock you off your high horse here, your mindset is in the right place.
I myself was considering supporting the author because this game has a really really good foundation and I really liked it.
But when I went to their Patreon page and found that they have this overweight and oversized boobs merchant character and oversized boobs magical girl in progress, which I despise in a porn game. I now then have to hold on to my money until I'm sure they're not going to fill the rest of the game with oversized boobs.
