Another delightful little update, but I'm more impressed how insanely fast your growth is Scarlett. another game coming close to done in close to half a year, tons of experimenting mechanically, now you're even collaborating with other artists too. shit MTA was your first big "experimental" game and you cooked that one up in just 6 months, now you're adding so much more to this one and still only taking a month or two longer to finish. How are you able to work this fast?
I noticed this too. I've made three games and almost a fourth in the time it's taken some games to flounder with an additional few levels and routes. I do think there's a harsh truth that a lot of developers are genuinely lazy or, at the very least, inefficient, but there's a little more to it than that.
The reason I work so fast isn't as cool as you'd think. I have no lovers, children, or friends, so I just sit at home, working eight hours a day, seven days a week. A solid 56 hours a week. That's my secret. It's how I put out more art than almost any artist while simultaneously developing more games faster than any game developer. Because I actually split my time between the two.
If you think my game development speed is crazy, you have to keep in mind that I only spend an average of 3.5 days of my week designing games. I draw art for Patreon the other 3.5 days.
Then there's my work process, which I've designed to be as efficient as possible. I'm constantly keeping my game's scope in check or finding more efficient methods of delivering the same high-quality content.
I've become a bit of a well-oiled machine in this aspect, and it wouldn't surprise me if other devs would struggle to keep up even with 7 days compared to my 3.5. Once day I'll may slow down though, get a girlfriend and learn to live a bit more. Until then, I literally have my next 4-6 games planned.
