I said it in a joking manner, but I wasn’t kidding, you know?—I’d actually be interested in hearing if you had any tips for an aspiring smut writer.
I've been writing porn since 1998, so it's probably part of the magic
1.
This post summarizes what I know about creating erotic content.
2. I treat writing porn seriously, I don't perceive it as an inferior media compared to mainstream literature.
3. I don't write stories about sex, I write stories about
people having sex. If the characters are believable, there's a tiny part in the readers' brain which
believes they are real, making the sex more enjoyable.
And now, so this post is not deemed off topic, I'll briefly show how the bullets above are represented in the game.
1. In my post, I write that the three pillars of erotica are the Gap between the characters, the Technical aspects and the Fetish. Much of the meta game (world conquest) is about closing the gap, or unavailability, between Karder and ruling wenches. There's also the gap between Karder and quest girls, where you can't have them at the beginning of the quest but as the quest progresses, the gap closes gradually until Karder can have sex with them. The Technical aspect is me trying to get the girls, scenes and animations as appealing as possible and Fetish is very strong in the game as well for those who enjoy its fetishes. For example, for players who are thrilled by impregnation, having Karder breed almost every girl he comes across intensifies the pleasure derived from the scene.
2. By writing seriously I mean that I try to
understand the characters and their motivations, I don't just put them in Karder's way waiting to be fucked. Ilga The Ram has a real motive behind betraying her queen, and it took me some time to figure it out. Same goes for the whole social structure of the orcish society: I didn't just want to make them big and dumb but not spiritual shamans a-la Blizzard. They are still bloodthirsty and brutal as expected from orcs but their structure allowed me to explain why they don't actually fuck the human hotties, which would have made my work in the quests awkward and messy. Same goes for developing a pantheon and history for an imaginary world: by taking world building seriously, I add addtional depth to the motives and decisions of the characters in the game.
3. The characters in my stories (and this game) has their own motives, based on their history. When Zhilly the hobbit girl asks Karder to train her to fight since she doesn't wish to be a baker, it sets the stage to the following scenes, making her believable. From time to time I try to have characters behave in a somewhat unexpected manner, like Marny who doesn't want to be "freed" since she loves her life as a Sigritzar Orkensau. This trick is a bit risky because if it fails, a character might be worse off than having no backstory at all, so I try to scrutinize such twists but the end result, I believe, it usually worth it.
Hope this helps.
