The version has been out for two months now and no one ran into this bug. I suggest you uninstall and reinstall.

Game is really interesting, but unfortunately it CTD's every 2-3 minutes, especially on the world map.
Most troubleshooting I've done so far seems to indicate a code issue, but given that most people aren't complaining about constant crashes I'm assuming there could be something weird happening on my end
No, it's not just you. I tried raising this point in this thread a while ago.

As you have correctly noted, since no one else complains, it is probably a problem on you side.
No offence, but I seconded another post about the world map causing very frequent crashes in this thread after someone else did.

[post largely about world map issues a long time ago]
and you mostly gave it the same response of "the code is really good, otherwise people would leave me bad reviews," to which I tried replying that the game *itself* is enjoyable, but the code makes it nearly unplayable for some (me included, as well as the original poster back then, and this other guy now). I know it's unreasonable to remember every single reply you get, but dismissing player issues as "it's an issue with you, not my code," is just not good. The players who have issues will probably raise them once, get told "nobody else complains, so it's not an issue" and then they won't bother mentioning it again, but the issue may still exist. The poster isn't wrong or making things up. I also do get extremely frequent crashes, also on the world map, but I for one largely stopped even attempting to play an otherwise fun game, because I tried to second another player who mentioned world map issues but got hit with mostly the same reply that it doesn't exist or it's an issue with your computer (it's not) or it's a mod issue (it's not) or just delete it and 'reinstall' (this shouldn't actually change anything).

As I said whenever I tried seconding this world map issue a while ago, no offence to you personally - the game is fun, it is enjoyable, and well done on that, but I think it would be a lot better if issues with the crashes were at least acknowledged to exist when people try and tell you about them, since most well-written games in RenPy run on different computers with very minimal issues. There really is a problem with how the world map is being managed, and it does cause extremely frequent crashes for some people, and if it's something happening only to specific machines or whatever, it's almost certainly a problem with edge cases not being properly handled, not the users.

For a third time, to make it as explicit as possible so no possible spat can start in the thread over this, I'm attempting to say this constructively, because I liked the game despite the very real issues.

If you run into those crashes, please send me the log. I might see something there previously missed. A save file would also help.

Also: please confirm you're not using any mods and that you play the game exactly like you have downloaded it.

I assume this update is just about remaking earlier chapters. Will the second continent be a new game?
Pretty much, yeah. Change-log for this update is in the OP. The dev has discussed their plans for the sequel in some detail earlier in the thread, won't go digging out the comments but it's largely that.

I am fighting Oryeonguk in a 30v40. I have 'doubled troop strength' through the infiltration. I cannot beat them in 'mk2' system or the 'mk1' system. HOW?
Also, a lot of the time when my troops attack in the Mk2 system, no damage is dealt. It makes it difficult to strategize when my troops keep missing 75% of the time, even if they one-shot on a hit.

1. There's no reason you'll lose to Oryenguk if you attack in MK1 30 Troops in double strength. Please send me a Save so I can look into it.
2. I think the MK2 needs some tweaking, but you should win if attacking at double strength. I'd appreciate a Save for this as well.

Doorknob22 Were you planning anymore revisions/updates or is work starting on #2 now?
Time for my State of the Union speech.

1. Two fiefdoms currently have no animations: Hawatia (quest + Wench) and Limtinia (Wench(es) only). I want to spend a few more weeks to close this "artistic gap" and then start working on VV-K2.

2. There are also few non "artistic" features I wanted to implement to improve the metagame, but... I lost my developer.

Again.

For those not familiar with this tragic affair, Gojira667 was my partner from 2021 to July 2025, when he disappeared completely. In September I started working with another developer who, I now have a reason to believe, recently (or perhaps not recently, depends on your view of the honesty of people) decided to leave the project without informing me anything. It is my understand that he is, in fact, active elsewhere but does not respond in email or Discord. Kids nowadays call this behavior ghosting, if I am not mistaken. So I'm looking for a good Python developer who wants to partner with me, and I have some candidates in the pipe.

If I don't find a satisfactory developer, I'll start working on VV-K2 and once I find developer, I'll close the gaps of the first game.

3. And now for something… interesting. A few weeks ago I was approached by an Unreal expert who suggested we partner up and make the next game in Unreal.

Since I don’t want to waste time on it, I gave him a challenge: make the opening of Vae Victis - Khan in Unreal and if it’s cool, I’ll consider your suggestion. I provide him about 20-30 minutes of guidance per day, but other than that he is on his own. I’ll give you a link for an interim demo which is ugly as hell, just so you’ll get a taste of what I’m talking about.

Remember it is:

  1. Ugly
  2. It is ugly because it is a temporary version, work in progress
  3. It is not finished
  4. Even it the final result is beautiful as we can make it, I may still stay with Renpy

Video of the temporary, ugly demo is .

To summarize: a few more weeks for closing artistic gaps in the current game and then to the next game, which may be in either Ren'py or Unreal.

Cheers!

Unless you are going to make the next VVK game an open world run around and f@#$ everything game.. Unreal, please no.

Aside from Unreal being so much harder to just lightly edit for my own reasons (tweak edit almost every renpy game for myself locally), If its still going to be the same style of game, and you dont need anything like real-time animations and open world stuff, id say skip Unreal. It would just be a waste of time and energy otherwise.
