It does serve a purpose, just not a huge one. It gets you more loot money and later you get upgrades that give you mana after fucking themAlright, in addition to the controls being bad, the game doesn't explain anything. It wasn't "a priestess", it had to be a specific one. And I while you have to cast mind break on the regular ones, this one you had to "kill" for some reason. Also mindbreaking the regular ones apparently serves no purpose, since they just vanish after you exit the map by the looks of it.
It seems like kind of a noob trap when starting out, unless you want to reload a save right afterwards, since it wastes mana. Its also a bit disappointing since a lot of the "generic" female NPCs are seemingly better looking than the story NPCs. Especially the amazons.It does serve a purpose, just not a huge one. Because it is a Dev made engine not a propriety one which most like 99% of games use even all AAA games use Unreal Engine 5 etc. The 2002 year you mention was before games were copy paste and bought assets2002 game
