Does lead developer and artist are the same person? Most ic. games with great art has the same problem - artist could leave on version ~0.5 and this project will be abandoned.

It seems it doesn't matter how much I state it. This game will be very slowly updated. It's a passion project for fun, not a main project like my others. If I start to feel like people are being too pressuring then I will abandon doing any early releases and just release the full game in a few years time when it's fully complete (possibly longer as I'll turn off the patreon too and have to fund it with my own personal funds again).

I am still working on the first build and it will be ready when it's ready. If you can't hold on or wait that long or don't have any patience, I suggest you look inward and ponder on why that might be.

You should have written this before, before that you made an empty promise. You are an experienced game developer and you knew what would come of all this.

Did you miss the first part of my post? Where I said I've mentioned it multiple times? I didn't even upload it here to begin with. But still, none of that excuses people being shitty over a free product does it?

I'm not so much looking for free, but due to the situation in my country, I can not buy a subscription to patreon due to card blocking (I can even transfer money to the card, but still this will not suit any of the developers, it's too dreary)

Honestly, considering what happened with urban demons and zombie life, there is some baggage. Both great games that had long periods of consistent quality development...until they didn't.
We have all had bad periods but it is going to take awhile to shake that perception.
This game looks excellent, and again, given the track record it could go on to be one of the Iconic games of the genre.

Also, based again on track record, it could run into consistent issues, long delays and underwhelming releases.
Sincerely hope for the former, but anytime there are even legitimate issues or delays, there is gonna be so much flak.

Thanks for your input (y) It is helping lean to the decision of perhaps just focusing on releasing a final version in a few years time rather than any sort of semi-regular updates.

That said, I want to touch on some of the point you made, because I think it would help shine a spotlight on an issue this community (and definitely specifically this site) has.

Those projects did have consistent updates, you're right, monthly updates (where I was also working a fulltime job and doing regular life stuff). It was obvious burnout was inevitable, along with some very personal issues caused me to no longer be able to commit to that. And some rabid, porn-addicted dogs could not handle a change in release schedule. Despite all the forewarning I could do on my return that things would not be the same as they were, they still barked very loudly, eventually getting the patreon shut down (and artists no longer able to be supported, so the projects had to end as well).

Moving on from the insulting idea that the lowest point of my life was a 'bad phase', for the past two and half a years I have consistently updated my other two projects without issue. So regardless of what happened 4 years ago, it doesn't matter what I do now, there are still people unable to move on because they aren't capable of any kind of rational thought or empathy.

Even with all that said, harassing or threatening a developer is never ok, under any circumstance. 'Flak' as you call is not excusable and using language like that only conflagrates the issue. Devs are people with lives just as complex as anyone elses. We are often a single dev with an artist we have to pay. Most of us only want to provide a fun, enjoyable game with some tasty smut regardless of how successful the project is simple because we enjoy the craft. I know I feel this way and I'm sure there are plenty of others who do too.

Don't take it personally, but I think the way of communicating causes these personal attacks.

Postponing a release multiple times because of a completely predictable event (public holiday, birthday) puts people in a bad mood. What makes it worse is that you announce the postponement on the 'last possible' date (release at the end of the weekend, announcement at the end of the weekend). People are hyped and the excitement/anticipation created by the date is replaced by disappointment.
People's personal attacks are never excusable and these attacks are stupid and unnecessary, but it's completely predictable that this will happen. This is the internet.

It would be wiser to just not to announce a specific release date. If you plan to release something in May, don't say May or Q2. That would give you too little buffer. Just say summer or somethign like that.
