Hi everybody.
Many of you expected the update to be released today (I know I did), so we want to post this report as early as possible to clarify the situation.
After giving an earlier build of the 0.5 to several testers, they found a bug and a bunch of typos, all of which we have already fixed.
We did, however, also asked for feedback on the pacing and the overall feel of the content, and although the response was generally positive, we did notice two recurring criticisms:
  • the tone in the middle part of the story becomes too serious;
  • although not boring, the middle part, again, is a little too long;
We think these are fair criticisms, and we agree with them on the whole. The question then was what are we going to do about them.
My first response was to settle for an okay update, publish 0.5 as it is, and just go and take a break already. But after giving it more thought and brainstorming possible ways of addressing the issues, we decided we would be remiss not to take the feedback and try to do something about them. So:
  • I'm going to cut some of the events that are a bit repetitious and try to shuffle the important story points discussed in them in other dialogues.
  • Chestnut has already started work on artworks for a new sexy event that will hopefully lighten the tone where we think it's most needed.
  • She's also going to draw a few more achievements.
  • I'm going to rewrite some of the dialogues to change the tone.
  • Before you worry that we're going to make the content too short, I just want to say that the length probably won't be an issue since those who tested the game said the new content took them between 3-5 hours to complete.
Will these changes improve the update? I certainly hope so, but of course, if we see that they don't, we won't include them.
How many days will it take us to do all these? I wish I knew. But we will have them ready in September. That's a promise.
Lastly, a huge thank you to all of the early testers who took the time to help us improve the game.
Have a great weekend
Cheers

Update:

We're getting a lot of messages from people not happy with our decision. To be honest, maybe we are being too anal; we're too physically and mentally tired to make the best decisions right now. Our intention has always been to do what is best for the game and try to be as honest and transparent as we can. This whole thing has been a learning experience and perhaps releasing the update today and making the changes together with the content of 0.6 is a better option. We appreciate that you have all supported us for many months on pure trust, and we don't want you to feel like we don't value your support and patience.

So, you will have the update by the end of tonight (GMT+2)

Still cant comprehend how people can camp discord and other websites for porn games and get mad if they dont release "in time". Like literally do anything else with your life and check in every now and then. None of you are paying and you know it, none of you WILL ever pay so "losing" your "support" means nothing. Get a grip.
...you don't understand what a tragedy is to be left without fapping material...

3-5 hours is actually a lot longer than I expected. Pretty cool!

And I need to remind people who are complaining about the time to finish the update that this game uses a unique hand drawn art style and so it takes a lot longer to do the art, compared to games that use engines like Daz3D for example

Ah that's a shame. I wonder just how serious and tedious this middle part was to merit these changes? This makes me all the more curious about the update.

I really like the game and you two as developers because of your hardwork all these reports, artwork, story etc but i was really looking forward to today for update after 7 months. But this delay really made me sad . I dont want to harm your passion on the game or i dont want you guys to get burned out. But my day is really ruined right now. Maybe you could be more careful on the next updates , I dont know. I hope you guys dont take this comment as bad review i'm just mad.

Luckily, all you need to prove the opposite is the ability to read.
in waifu academy they did have communication but kept lying about accidents and saying that the game will be updated later but the update just didn't come and when it did it was only like 30 minutes of gameplay.I can see that the devs of what a legend are keeping communication but they are also doing the same as waifu academy and keep delaying the update. Its pretty unfair for the patreons and all the other people waiting for the game. But no hard feelings my guy.

Actual art takes time and devs show care.
Please dont compare it to a guy who uses fucking Honey Select and has literally no justification whatsoever take time to churn out updates.
Wish people stopped comparing 3D garbage to hand drawn 2D games.

Is the fact the game is delayed annoying? Sure.

That being said, anybody who played the game knows that the devs know what they are doing. If they feel the content isn't as good as they want it to be then so be it. Delay away.

Damn, won't lie, that is a shame to hear, really wanna see how Lana's side of the story pans out.

More waiting time spent on other things then.

As one of the beta testers I can assure everything on that dev's note is accurate. It took me more than 4 hours to complete just the new content before wandering away to actually test how it effect the older content and try to break it. Aside from that annoying bug (which was not a game breaking one) the update was basically ready to go. But it's also true there was an odd feeling to Lana's long quest, it didn't have that charming and feel-good vibe we're used to enjoy in WaL. We'll see what they come up with to improve that in such a short time. In other no-news, the art was absolutely gorgeous as always and you'll easily understand why it took all these months to be ready.

I suppose the real question for me would be if it being a bit serious in the middle part would be an issue narratively for most people? Personally I can get down with it especially of it makes sense, in the end that's an opinion part but we won't know now as a whole because it's apparently being redone as we speak.

We'll just have to see how it all pans out now from here.

All you morons have to do is sit back and relax while they work their asses off for this update. That’s it. Stop pretending like you care about the patrons’ money when you’re all here to just pirate the game before its public release.

How much more vocal do they have to be? You guys know what the situation is every single week. Sorry that they give a damn about the game and want to provide quality content for you monkeys. Would you prefer they half-ass it for a quicker release?

I really feel for the magicnuts team for having to hear all this constant bullshit.

After today's dev post I wouldn't be so sure they know what they're doing, at least regarding the story (I mean, to make this decision on a release day is telling). For me it looks like the writer doesn't have a set plan for it, so I expect more situations like this in the future.

Not complaining about delay tho, I am not a patron so it's "free real estate", can't complain about a free game.

A bit strongly worded, but I agree with you 100%.

For the people that care about the story, it would be an issue.
Also, the team is serious about their game. I doubt that they would rewrite it if it was just 1 or 2 people telling them that the pacing or whatever could be better, it must have been a substantial percentage of testers telling them that.
