DISCLAIMER: I'm not talking about this game specifically. I'm not talking about this user specifically. This admittedly incoherent ramble is to everyone who supports anything.

I myself understand perfectly the concept of patronage: You support someone financially so they can concentrate on being productive on a field of their choice. It's a marvelous concept. When you go to an art museum, everything you see exists solely because of patronage of some entity, private or public. Sponsorship in sports is essentially the same thing. Most scientific research is done with grants and backers. But I'm willing to make a claim that it has never come without expectations. Even if a piece of art or scientific breakthrough has taken years to finish, eventual results have been expected.

Patrons, sponsors and what ever you wish to call them, have always monitored their dependents. Maybe not always overly actively, but at least to some extent. Everyone who has received support in this form, has always known it's not unconditional and it stops if you stop. Until Patreon.

With sites like Patreon, you can become a patron without being wealthy enough to be able to support freeloaders. Quite often simply throwing in $1 a month is enough. Wonderful, right? Wrong. Well, not completely wrong at least on paper, but there are some massive flaws. When you subscribe to pay $1 a month, it's easy to shrug your shoulders if there hasn't been any progress this month. Or past three months. Or past two years. Heck, you might even forget the whole damn thing if you're supporting multiple projects. Who cares? It's a dollar. But when supporting someone takes a substantial amount of money, you care about what's being done with it.

It's kind of counterintuitive how with increasing amount of patrons your accountability actually decreases. If you have one patron who supports you for $1K a month, you're accountable for $1K. You have to show results worth $1K. If you have a thousand patrons who support you for $1 a month, you're getting the same amount of money but you're only accountable for $1. For a thousand people, but still just $1. You have to really let people down for them to say what you're doing isn't worth even $1 a month.

And this results into something you see in every ponzi scheme: Denial. You spent a dollar? Huh, who cares. Not you, you can afford it. But in a year that's $12. Still not much to most of the people with access to internet to read this ramble. But it's $12 for nothing. The more you spend on nothing, the stupider you look. And you can't look stupid. So whatever you're funding, it has to come through. If it does, you'll look awesome for trusting in it the whole time. If it doesn't, you'll look like an idiot. You're not an idiot. You can't look like an idiot. Therefore, this has to work. And you have to convince everyone it will work and everything is going wonderfully, otherwise they'd think you're an idiot. You're not an idiot! And that's how you get those angry defenders who lash out at everyone for not sharing their blind faith and/or denial; that cult-like mentality you see around failed projects.

Maybe you don't care if you get any results, but you should. The less people care about results, the less they'll get any. When you're ignoring what is being done with your money, you're enabling all the milking.

And hey, who am I to say what counts as results? Maybe you are indeed happy with what you see. In that case, do go on. If supporters of games like Summertime Saga are truly fine with funding a guy doodling in a stream every now and then, well alrighty then. Like I said, you have to really let people down for them to say it isn't worth even $1. But I highly suggest that every now and then you take a hard look at yourself and what you're supporting. It may not be easy to admit to yourself that you've been had, but it won't stop until you do so. Take Happy Summer for example: That dev is running an experiment on how low you can push the bar before people get mad at you. And it's going astonishingly well. Like, every SMH-meme you've ever seen well. As long as people refuse to admit they're getting nothing, they'll get nothing.

If you want to keep supporting projects without requiring results, you're of course free to do so. But by doing so you're doing a massive disservice to everyone who does expect results. And don't act surprised when those people call you an idiot.
Reminds me of Innocent Witches. Devs posted 2023 roadmap, then did nothing and posted almost exactly the same roadmap for 2024. Paying all the bills for devs and waiting for them to work isn't always something that works the way you expect.

It's a common trend for AVN developers to slow down, burn out, cut and run etc. after several releases. So of course people are cynical.
I mean, if you get any good at VG design you can immediately quit making AVN's and go make games for a company you can proudly tell your in-laws about. The social stigma of making porn tends to create a brain drain where anyone with talent eventually escapes to the "legit day job" market. Anyone who sticks around long term making porn is typically someone whose skill level has plateau'd and is never gonna make it in the more competitive and choosy legit gaming development field. OR, someone like the Nuts - who are only interested in doing development as a hobby. Which is why they work slowly and make a quality game. It's also why we can count on them still being here & plugging away 5, 10, 15 years from now (though they may have to switch platforms here and there, I can't imagine patreon will last that long). This is, weirdly, a labor of love for them.

It's also why the only outcome people yelling at them could have would be to discourage them and make them quit. You're not going to make them hire people, you're not going to make them turn their hobby into a day job, you're not going to make them speed up. So either relax and be patient or go away.

Not only has the update taken +2 years while the developers are being lazy af, it's also the worst fucking update featuring some green goblin girl instead of a fucking big titty human.

So the next fappable material will (possibly) be in the 0.8 that comes out in 2027. Sweet.
lol have you seen Holly? She has a lot in common with a plank of wood. Gomira's are the last tig biddies you're gonna see for a long time, better enjoy 'em
Nah, I actually like her looks, and I'm pretty sure a lot of people do, otherwise she wouldn't win the poll.
...
She's actually one of two girls I am somewhat excited for (other one being Simmone), because I have hopes I'll like their personality and sex scenes (so far the girls and porn in the game is rather boring for me personally).
Well said and I agree! I think her little tusks are cute, her BJ scene was smoking hot (the combo of it being a gloryhole scene and her considering biting him gave it a little spice from danger). Simmone is also high on my list (much higher than mean tsundere Holly or arrogant princess Serena). Simmone's chastity belt reminded me of the Princess Bride, lol. I hope getting the key is a long and challenging quest!
If there's not a full 24 hours worth of content for Orc girl plus whatever other BS they added on top of her this update will be a fat L regardless.
2 years for less than an hours worth of content would be WILD.
Come on now. Why make shit up? There's absolutely no reason to suspect this update would be that short. Rose had much more content than that and her update took significantly less time. It stands to reason that Gomira's story will be quite large compared even to Rose's. I've played entire H games that had about as much plot as just the Rose storyline had. Chill.
Don't forget the part where this update is just a side-quest which doesn't move the main story forward at all.
Irrelevant distinction. Sure, I personally really want to move the plot forward (mostly because I'm mad for Lady Mad). But content is content. At the end of the day plot and sex scenes with Gomira are just as much work to write, draw, pose, edit, and test as content for the main story. The patreon voters voted for orc girl. I have to assume they're pumped for her.

*Obi-Wan voice* "That's a name I've not heard in a long time..."

Hoo boy. That was a dark time, when every grifter out there was trying to rake in a quick buck off some reskinned Akabur project. Fortunately that all seems to have died down now. (It helps that HP fandom has also begun dying off.)

(NB I'm not saying this to diss on big A. The 2DCG AVN community owes a lot to him for helping to inspire so many devs to copy him. Most of them were hacks or utterly talentless, but enough of them stuck around that there really is so much more being produced now than there ever was before him. )

This game is nice and all, but i still want my ORGY.
It looks like something hard to happen, does such a scene even exist in the gallery, in the "to be added in a future update" slots, since an orgy needs at least 2 guys and 2 girls but it's always possible to the MC to use a trick like a certain female did already to create a copy of himself and that still count as such.

I know they had a baby and one of them was sick or something, but damn 2 years and it isn't finish geez. I didn't expect Magicnuts to be as scummy as Darkcookie or Something Unlimited devs but here we are. That's the third, 2d game devs that's milking the fuck out of their games. I'm worried if Aurelia devs turns out like they do but here's hoping they won't. Also, I can't believe there's re****s thats complaining about the orc lady instead of the devs scummy practice.

You have to wait for a really long-long time, pal.

How much would a game designer earn working for another company? Here's some annual salaries from Glassdoor:
  • Roblox: $185,181
  • Microsoft: $173,843
  • AppLovin: $131,603
  • Electronic Arts: $122,829
  • Unity: $114,687
Right now, if you're doing well in the AVN field, you can really make a lot of money. DC (Summertime Saga) is earning between 71k and 197K a month. DPC (BaDIK) is earning between 33K - 91K a month. Magicnuts is earning about 7.5K a month (and it peaks closer to 10K on each release). I think if you're doing well in this field, you'd be mad to throw it in and hope to do better in the mainstream.

I totally get how a lot of people don't really want personal recognition making a porn game, but none of these developers are putting their face out there anyway, and the in-laws don't give a fuck where your money is coming from as long as you're providing.

Not sure how doing AVNs as a hobby gives a higher chance of them sticking at it for another 5+ years. If it's a hobby, they can chuck it in and move on in their lives without any notice or repercussions, whereas someone making serious money out of it full time has a huge incentive to keep going.

At this rate, we will play the game next year :ROFLMAO:
If you crunch the number on the percentage complete:
  • It's been 670 days since the last release.
  • There's only 0.2% left to go.
  • So that means we've got roughly 1.5 days to go before release.
WooHoo! :giggle:

...No?

If I remember correctly, a couple of times ago. When magicnuts have some major block, they can't deliver the update fast enough because of some real-life issues, unfixed bugs, and testing. Some developers here are actually offering their help and speeding up the update significantly. Why couldn't it be the case now?

Well, you don't remember correctly, I'm afraid. This is the first update with some major real-life blocks, the previous updates followed more or less the same pattern in the polishing phase we are seeing now (this is taking a bit longer because it's said to be the largest update so far). And they only hired a sketch artist who is still helping them. I highly doubt involving more people will 'speed up the update significantly' at this point (or at any point, mind you, but that's a different discussion that's been repeated lots of times already).
