When I say "normal build" I'm not talking "normal american" but "normal video game guy" which is as you describe a bit of muscle tone but not a body builder.

What boggles my mind is how such a large percentage of the male protagonists in these games are shorter than the female characters and thin with little muscle mass. In what other genre is that ever a thing? When I'm watching, playing or reading anything, I really prefer if the male hero is basically a stud and looks the way that I'd like to in a perfect world. That goes for the porn that I watch as well. I would have thought that a lot of other people would be the same, which is why this makes me scratch my head so much.

As for the tropes I'm tired of, I couldn't word it any better than others before me. But generally, just unbelievable characters that act totally illogically all the time. The thing is, we ALL act without logic sometimes, that's natural. But our actions should make sense SOMETIMES lol.

I think one of the reasons why a lot of VN male protagonists are of the lower average level of the height spectrum, usually around 5'7 to 5'11 is because the average height of eastern Asians are around that region as well.
But given that most of the games here, as well as original ones that are fantranslated (or dear god! MTL'ed) over from Japan to here were worked on by native or atleast bi-lingual english speakers, it still is weird that it exists.
Personally i couldn't call myself as a bi-lingual English speaker/writer, since it's my 'third' language, but i can say that over from this side of the world, ...we might as well be shorties to the rest over. Also, it's common for us to have lean muscles on our body, than a chad type of rip.

For me though, in my own experience, its not the Asian games where this is the most common, though. In those games that I play (often HS), the male character is taller than many of the women, so the proportions make sense, regardless of how tall they all actually are.
The ones that make me scratch my head are almost all Western ones, where the intention seems to have been clear to have the small dude as the MC, and have him in some cases as much as a head shorter than the women.

I'm of two minds when it comes to the appearance of male main characters(including height). On the one hand, an idealized male fulfills that ideal self-image a player might want to have, the stud easily getting everything he wants. On the other hand, a less perfect male might be easier for the player to actually identify with, and if we're playing the typical teen MC scenario, then it's basically a "what if" fantasy, the opportunity for a player to vicariously relive their late childhood/early adulthood but with a lot more "fun" and even some taboo stuff thrown in.
Honestly my impression is that the relative popularity of a game isn't too dependent upon how the main character looks, it's how the love interests look, and how "hot" and fun the game is to play. Though I think if you had a game with an 80 year old as the main character you might pay a price in terms of relative appeal.

- the virgin sex master (especially if it's a shota) - if it's your first time, you're gonna be clumsy and sloppy. I get it's supposed to be a fantasy fulfillment thing, but this is past my suspension of disbelief limits
- the world of shotacons - it really creeps me out when everyone and the kitchen sink is lusting for little boy dick.
- the virgin who's been living under a rock - unless you're some incredibly sheltered princess, it's weird that you've never even heard of what a dick or pussy looks like, let alone what sex is.
- the dropped-on-their-head-as-a-child virgin - it's cringey and frankly boner-killing how blatantly dumb these characters are.
- the paper-thin blackmail excuse - "Ha ha! I've secretly recorded me raping you in full view with my face in every frame of the shot and a perfectly clear view of where it all happened! If you don't let me rape you again, I'll release this to the whole internet!" "Oh No! Anyway, 911? Evidence of my rapist raping me is going to be on the internet by tomorrow morning. I would like to press charges."
- drug addiction, but it's just an aphrodesiac - if you're going to say there's drug use, please be more creative. I would prefer if the writer even just made up a fantasy narcotic instead of the generic "ultra powerful "aphrodisiac"
- drug use, but it's just alcohol, cigarettes and weed - like the above, if you're gonna use drugs in your plot, use something that isn't just a "gateway drug". This is more for those JP corruption games than western games as these are more socially unacceptable in Japan. I can't help but laugh my ass off when there's a serious moment of a character claiming to take up hard drugs and it's literally just cigarettes.
- corrupting a virgin in 5 simple steps - it kills my mood when the supposedly frigid virgin (or even average virgin) suddenly becomes and likes being the town bicycle in about a week of losing her virginity. Corruption is best when it's a gradual and detailed process
- the insufferable bitch of a slut - I really don't get this. Why is it that so many slutty characters fall into one of two categories? They're almost all either dumb as bricks bimbos or horrifyingly insufferable bitches. What about the slutty Onee-san types who enjoy getting their cream filling on the regular, but also want to cuddle with their LI? Those need more representation.
- apologetic misogyny/misandry - sexism isn't cool irl, but this is all fiction. If you're gonna include sexist caricatures, go whole hog. It shouldn't feel like the writer is saying "Look guys, I'm sorry for what I'm typing here! Believe me, I don't really think this! Honest!" with every word the character says. Most of us know these characters are the absolute scum of the world and those who can't understand that have no business perusing porn.
- If you're a dude, you're either Chad McHorsecock or Beta Cuckerson II esq. - these characters are just plain boring. especially if there's a story and plot to play out. What happened to having a well adjusted male lead and forcing them into tough situations? It's waaaay more interesting to see a good and strong person forced to decide between raping his GF's sister, shooting her parents or watching them all die if he does neither. It's also more interesting to see this character go through the motions of winning the LI's affection legitimately and not just because he's hung like a horse and can sex good. And the losses if you're going the NTR story route would have more impact if the reasonably attractive protagonist with a backbone still loses in the end.
Not tropes, but I'm still tired of seeing them in Sex games:
- Game over sex scenes only - having GOR is okay as long as it's not the only thing the game can do
- Sexless purity routes - at least give us some happy sex on this side
- CG sets thinly veiled as games - if you're going to make a game, put effort into the set dressings. A porn video plot shouldn't be able to out do your game, otherwise you're better off just making a cg set with a caption if you must have dialogue at all.
- Prostitution/slavery routes that have no gameplay justification to them other than seeing a couple of bland scenes - Often, games that include prostitution/slavery routes even make them have gameplay anti-value. Please, please, please, please dear devs, make these routes a proper viable alternative path to the standard monster hunter/9-5 office grind routes! Also make them consequential to the story or world! Have people recognize the FeMC as the hooker who's taken a mile of dick for the past month if she suddenly wants to become the world's hero. Have people recognize if the famous hero on a quest to save the world suddenly starts working the back alleys to make ends meet.
- Blocking kinks behind other kinks - If I want to see a steamy hot BDSM scene, I don't want to have to wade through even one scene of vomit, scat, watersports, or cbt. Just because I want to see sexy Onee-san or milf porn doesn't mean I want to do it as a 10 y.o. kusogaki.
- suction cup clothing - Unless your character is wearing molded armour plate or painted on latex, the tits and ass cleavage should not be perfectly defined in any detail. I find this is especially horrendously jarringly noticeable in Daz and HS renders. Actually, I just don't like Daz renders in any scenario. They are on the whole aesthetically displeasing to me especially the men.
- The thinly-veiled if at all sex innuendo name - If you name your character anything remotely similar to Dick Smashterson or Cammy Moviho, I will be uninstalling your game yesterday.
- The complete lack of consequences to the story coming from your sexual exploits. I'm not saying you need to have pregnancy game overs (actually far from it. Make pregnancy a mechanic, please!) but if you dump enough cum into your warrior princess party member to fertilize the entire medieval continent 4 times over, then she should get pregnant, and it should make her less effective as a party member if you can bring her along at all. If she's pregnant when you face the evil god, then she really shouldn't make an appearance in those cutscenes or the scene should reflect her pregnancy.
- Games tagged with the 'virgin' tag, but the virgin loses her virginity in the introduction - if your 'virgin' is only a virgin for less than 5% of the plot, that really shouldn't count for the tag.
- Lack of internal consistency - You built your world, stick to the rules of it.
- Nonsensical choices - The choices: A) Yes, please; B ) No thanks; C) Rape and pillage their entire family! The question? "Want to go to the mall with me?"
- LOL so random humor - this stuff stopped being funny when I hit puberty 2 decades ago.
- Out of place Meme humour - If you're writing a medieval fantasy dungeon crawl with political intrigue, please for the love of Slaanesh, don't make references to Harambe, wojacks, pepes, "always has been", "leave Brittany alone", or anything like that! Please!
- "It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine" - So the meteor is about to smash into the earth in 3 days. Seems pretty serious, eh? You know what this calls for? A week long fishing vacation followed by a month long orgy! It's okay, that meteor is just going to chillax in the stratosphere until you're ready. -_-
- Ren'py as a whole. Maybe because I don't enjoy the vast majority of
gamesVNs that are made in that engine. In fact, the only VNs I've actually enjoyed were by Black Lilith, Type-Moon, or in the Bible Black series. - Sandboxes for the sake of sandboxing - if you're going to make a sandbox, you best be filling that shit with content. A laser-focused story-based railroad game with no choices (final fantasy for example) is infinitely better than a sandbox with no choices (vanilla skyrim anyone?)

Pretty sure that's mainly a Japanese thing. It seems they have a pretty nasty habit of ostracizing victims and their families for that sort of stuff. It sounds absolutely idiotic, but I've seen it so often and in so many different forms of media that there must be some truth to it.

Yeah, that's mostly where I've seen it, but there were a couple of American RAGS games and a Russian game I checked out that had that in them. I guess it's because the developers want to get to the juicy bits and skip past setting the stage as fast as possible

2 Peeping on your mum brother sister or whoever in the shower ( again done to death )
one big hate i have, I dislike are lazy transitions . Sometime later a while later being thrown up on screen what happened in between that .Example i was in the park with my bro in the morning "sometime later " i am magically at home in my bedroom in the evening kills immersion just don't do it put a filler in.it doesn't have to be spectacular just a time filler . So you left you bro in the park at lunch time did some shopping had a coffee met a friend or whatever just fill the time gap without a sometime later screen

I really hate ridiculously sized... anything really. Dicks, tits, ass, some people reaaaally go way too overboard.
Also, something I understand why its done but I feel like it really wastes some potential, specially in more "sentimental" or "real" kind of stories is how sex, once the guy is done, is over. I feel like sex is always super romantic or super horny too. It can be used on so many different ways, show the couple having fun, a character discovering something about themselves they didn't know (not talking about a fetish), you can make the sex awkward if you want to develop some drama or even make a couple hate-fuck. Its purpose donesn't need to be just fap.
Almost forgot, less of a trope but something I see a lot in these kinda games... Bad UI. People, put at least some effort in your UIs. It's how I'm gonna interact and navigate the game, it nedds to be good and/or at least serviceable. More than once a horrific UI has turned me away from a game.

I guess I'm different than a lot of other people, but I have absolutely no use for love in a porn game. For me, love is for real life. Its not entertainment. I don't want to see a happy couple, just the two of them. Even if the girl is really hot, its just boring. I don't want regular reality in my porn, I guess. I want the game to be a fantasy that could never actually happen to most people.
The use of Amature Voice Actors in low budget adult games. It's one thing in Japanese games when you can get known actors to do VO in a studio that knows what there doing. But I have never heard a good voice over in any English adult game. The voice does not fit the character and you don't have many to choose from. It's like a bad anime dub. Worse to me is a game that did not have voice acting at the beginning but then it's added in later. Let's be honest to do it right you would need to get a VO studio involved.
Treasure of Nadia has some solid voice acting, but I find it unnecessary. I'm very happy to just read all of the dialogue.
