There is NTR when it is optional that can be used to serve the plot or gameplay, it is gut wrenching on purpose.
Then there is NTR Fetish, I don't understand those people.
There is also Pimping and Slutting it as a girl, I wouldn't consider it NTR as its an entirely different perspective.

Then there is Pregnancy, which unlike NTR should be in any game. Without it all the fucking you have been doing is meaningless. It's like getting cucked by the Pill.
Bonus points if its a multigenerational game where you get to fuck as the children also until the breeding program to create ubermensch is complete.

NTR and Pregnancy is also good as long as it's also has the Gore tag.

Discussion in another thread reminded me of another trope that is an instant nope and delete for me. And, while this is definitely personal preference (I don't kink shame), this is one of those that just can't be done right or given a unique enough twist to make it palatable.

The trope: An innocent or naive girl who just doesn't understand how good sex can be who is then raped/forced hard enough that she suddenly becomes a huge slut/slave to the MC.

The biggest thing I personally am tired of, has nothing to do with tropes, story beats, bad animations or renders, same models being used, or any of that.

Its if there is no actual choice, don't prompt a click to continue button.

I am half assed writing a game script for my own amusement, and the only time choice windows or click to continue windows would come up, is to end animated scenes, or because the choice matters for story, mechanic, or dialogue changes
With dialogue changes being the least common.
While that pushes the VN into KN territory, I would much rather fap to (coz thats why I am playing these) a well written KN with ok to amazing renders, or a well put together sandbox/point and click that doesn't waste my time with needless clicks every three images.
Even if i am space bar mashin, havin to suddenly grab my damned mouse to click <Open door> when you could of just transitioned to the open door sequence and kept it movin.

As for tropes that annoy me
The non consensual sleep molestation shit is kinda dumb and played out. I don't mind if its like "let me make sure all my hot daughters are sleepin ok... oh shit she is nekkid. Fuck now i have a boner, gonna go fap to this!" But unless the whole game is meant to be low key creepy/pervy/rapey, it needs to die in a fire.

Now I am all about the LIs or MC waking up his willing partner or molestation happening after its been given the general ok, when the MC is supposed to be for lack of a better term "good"

Further, I don't need realism, i need verisimilitude. I need the internal world to be consistant. The internal characterizations to remain logically sound. If a dude has been shown to be emotionally charged, there needs to be growth or change before that shit suddenly goes away and he goes all Vulcan, and vice versa.

I firmly believe every single Adult Game creator (myself included!) would benefit from reading more romance novels and erotica of varying qualities to improve how they characterize and get to sexual situations, long form series are also great because you can see short term and long term character growth and then adapt it to your own stories.

The last thing I think all the creators should do, is have at the very least a broad strokes outline of the story they want to tell, and then wrap the game mechanics around it as needed. Or at the very least, once they have the mechanics they want to use, sketch out how they play into the story they want to tell.

Ok, done with my keyboard smashing, time to enjoy some games.

It's even worse when you're playing that character. Which is like 80% of female protag games.

For me, my most hated cliche'd troupe is the slutty bisexual BFF that just wants to get into your girls pants and your pants and taking liberties with your girl when you're not around. Along with that would the all girls are bisexual theme in harem games.

But the slutty bi BFF that's not made any move on your girl and suddenly gets all handsy and turns your girl bi is so shit and lame and cliched and just fucking lazy. Especially in the games where the MC has been absent for years and returns and the girl has been in love with him for all that time he's been away and now he returns and suddenly the BFF starts making moves the girl and the girl "realizes" after years of being straight and loving the mc she's suddenly bi?! *puke*lame*:WaitWhat:

Okay, worst things in Adult games:

- Dream scenes - they serve ONE purpose only: Delay the action. Noone that gets immersed in a story can find these "hot". It's not real, and has no heart to it. That's like jacking off to still images that have no context.

- Night scenes - Pulling off covers, touching tits, rubbing dick all over the mom's feet or whatever. Takes so much work for all the different renders etc. that could be invested elsewhere.

- Incest in general is so overused. Mom / Sister finding out MC has that huge fucking cock by accidentally seeing it and then getting all hot and bothered, unable to stop thinking about it. Then it takes 6 or more updates until anything of importance happens.

In my opinion, if you want to put in incest, the "freshest" approach you can take is to have the characters be naturally attracted to each other from the get go. There's no realistic approach, no sane person will fuck his parents or vice versa. Even if I hate the game itself, Midnight City pulls that stuff off pretty well imo.

- Highschool settings. No need to explain, I think.

- The [put in playful descriptive word here] girl/woman. Here's sporty girl with short hair. This is stern career girl wearing a suit and tied up hair. This is shy library girl with braids and round glasses. You catch my drift. Stereotypes are boring and their characters are never really developed beyond what fits their description. Make them complex, but not pretentious. They need to have motives, goals, reasons. I think 'Connected' has a very well written and unique female best friend / love interest. Where it all began and BaDIK also have strong characters.

- The 'slow burn' as people romantically call porn games that just artificially drag on without ever giving the fans / your potential customers/supporters what they're here for.

- If you value your story, you detach from it. The narrator chiming in every 5 minutes going "Ayoo guys it's me, Narrator, for a funny skit"

- Long ass tutorials one after the other holding the player hostage for 20 minutes before we get to know anything about the story.

- Grinding stats or money for hours. If I have to ctrl through the same slowly loading animations or renders 3 times a day ingame for 7 days to get new animations, I get turned off. It's tedious and adds no value, other than steal time.

- The MC is alone, and and if he has a friend, it's a fucking idiot. Obviously as I'm a pretty immersive player, I don't want to watch 'another dude' having sex, but I think a well written support character / friend is a good thing. If you played Acting Lessons, Liam is one hell of a good fucking side character. He was very, VERY popular and people were invested in him. He posed no threat to the MC, but he wasn't an asexual herbivore either. Same goes for the mohawk guy from 'Become a Rock Star'.

- Japanese logic and names, settings. Why do western game developers get off on naming their characters Ayame, Kanako, Takeshi etc. So many people probably watched tons of anime and forgot how real people are called and how they act.

But the most important thing I really want to say is this: I don't think you can avoid all the tropes. Everything is a trope now, you can't be completely original, ever. So don't feel bad when you make use of one if it fits the vision of your story.

I don't think I am particularly tired of seeing any specific tropes per say, more like I am tired of seeing terrible implementations of those tropes. One way you know it's a terrible implementation is if you're trope doesn't serve any story purposes but simply exists because the dev wanted to use it. When the dev can weave a trope into their stories seamlessly and in interesting ways, then tropes can actually greatly enhance a story.

I was with you on the first part, but I got really confused on the "especially". I feel like being absent for years is reason enough for anyone to become unfaithful or less interested in their SO, especially if they're young and have spent more years apart than together. As for people discovering they're bi later in life, it's a bit more common than you think.

I don't think I've seen that specific example in anything I've played. What titles had it?

Maybe I didn't explain it correctly. It's like the girl and MC have been apart for however many years, the girl has been pining for the MC that whole time, maybe dating, maybe not. The MC returns and things start cooking off, it's only after the MC returns that the slutty BFF makes her move. That is what annoys me. Why didn't she make a move in the years he was gone etc?

There have been a few like that, one that comes to mind and I really didn't like the way it was done was in Reunion I think it was. The youngest sister had been in love with the MC for the last 10 years (while he was away) and even rejected other guys because they didn't match up to the image of her brother. He returns and she's happy, she confesses to her slutty BFF that she's always loved him. Things are going well between the sister and the MC, the slutty BFF fucks another chick in front of the sister and then knowing her love for the MC and how well things are going makes a move on the sister. In fact there is another example in that same game, Sandra the lawyer who helps the MC starts falling for him, her slutty BFF also admits' she's had a crush on the MC since highschool 10 years ago and regrets not making a move. He invites her out and she's keen to start a relationship but also wants to start one with Sandra. Again they've been friends for years and only when the MC is starting something with Sandra does the other bitch want to start something with Sandra.

Similar thing in Dating my Daughter. The BFF, Elana keeps making moves on the daughter, even if you as the player reject all her moves on the daughter when you can, she still gets handsy and still wants to get involved with both the daughter and MC, even after she discovers whats going on between them. Some of that only happens if you go down Elana's route, but most of it happens even if you don't.

The other trope I hate is the shitty friends / best friends... it seems like every game the friend or best friend is secretly waiting to betray or take advantage of MC or other characters at the first opportunity. I sometimes think the developers of some of these games have never had a real friend in their lives. Friends help each other out through anything, not take advantage of their friend at the first sign of weakness.

One of my favorite things about sex irl is the mystery of what a woman/man looks like naked and then seeing them disrobe - the amazing variety of breasts/areolas/bodies/labia/body hair/cocks/etc. But when I play games, in many cases, every single male character looks the same and every single female character looks exactly the same except for the hair style/color.

There are probably a dozen different ways of drawing attractive B-Cups alone.
I can recognize my favorite porn stars without even seeing their faces. I should be able to do the same with the characters in your game.

Also:
Not all "mature" women are giant-breasted and chubby. I love chubby moms, but I also love slender, small- and saggy-breasted mature women.
Unrealistically large cocks get old for me real quick. I don't find them hypnotically alluring. Same with unrealistically ginormous breasts.

This one isn't a trope. But it is very common to see in choice-based VNs.

When a choice-based VN has lust vs like/romance stats and the choices are so arbitrary as to what decisions update certain stats that it renders the game impossible to play without a walkthrough of some sort.

Example from a real game walkthrough here: 1599087453613.png

amnesia, dark family secrets, basically anything that amounts to an unreliable narrator type thing.

Oh, I remembered another trope that I personally am annoyed by. Love/Slave being a binary choice.
Yeah, I mean D/s definitely IRL doesn't treat it that way. It makes more sense to cast in terms of "what type of relationship do you want to have? Vanilla, Harem, BDSM, All of the above?"

Exactly. I have been a semi active participant in the BDSM and D/S communities since I was like 19. Most of those long term relationships are just as full of love and romance as a vanilla relationship.

If I was to code binary choices, they would probably be "Kinky/Not Kinky" or "Bedroom Only Kinky/Full Time Kinky" depending on the overall setting.
