Why was Lady Chatterley's Lover so popular and read by so many if the story in NTR is so bad?

It sold 3 million copies within 3 months of its publication (200,000 alone in its first day!). It did not feature blackmail, rape or hypnosis to my recollection. It is now a classic of literature.

If NTR is unrealistic and the characters do not act logically and rationally as in real life, then why is it that the percentage of parental discrepancy can fluctuate so wildly in the studies?(1). From the lowest of 0.8 to the highest of 53? That would yield some interesting averages.

Harem - 1322 (18%)

For memory, overall, there's 8% of Netorare games, against 11% of harem games. So, yes, Netorare games have seen a small gain of interest, but the proportion of harem games have almost doubled.

This decision making give players a sense of responsibility over what is happening - it is meant to engage, immerse much more than an ordinary book can. Yes, having to make decisions on behalf of the character makes you associate with them much more.

Anyway, I don't think it's unhealthy curiosity given how popular the genre is. If it was small like scat or vore - one would silently think 'well those are just weirdos'.
