Because with Steam, it reaches tens of thousands of people around the world who are willing to pay for the content. Maybe even hundreds of thousands. Steam also takes care of the proper processing and taxation of international sales, handling complaints and returns and other sales-related bullshit, making it as easy as possible for the creator and the players.Why not Subscriberstar, KoFi, or itch?

KoFi completely distances itself from everything other than collecting their cut for using the platform. They simply redirect you and
the creator to a payment processor and what happens next is up to you. The first thing they mention in their ToS is that they are not an intermediary in financial transactions.
And yeah, WiABs on SubscribeStar since its Patreon was taken down. I guess this platform and its results did not impress the dev too much.
