Pardon me, but that is partly bull. Rapeday was banned for very good reasons, which had nothing to do with creative freedom. You choose an extreme here. I am not a fan of some Steam regulations, like geoblocking, but as long as it is part of the bigger story, Steam does not care about a lot of things in the games. And, unlike the s..heads at Patreon, Steam does not care about 18+ patches popping up outisde their hometurf.

I've only just arrived in Ch4, so I can't say anything about the mafia stuff and how it was implemented. But since the night visit at the latest, it was clear in which rough direction the game would develop - at least for me. And after the number in the basement of the farm, there was no longer any doubt.
So what's all the moaning about now?

Because now everyone is no longer related to everyone, regardless of shape, colour or taste?

I don't like these changes at all. I understand why he tried to make changes for Patreon, but that has been pulled a long time ago. Ocean no longer has the Patreon chains around his leg and yet he still make drastic changes to the writing. The main core theme of WIAB pre rework and now have been completely changed and it drastically changes the foundation of the story. This one of reason why I feel Ocean is not top tier developer since he literally compromise way to much on his own work.

In my opinion it's not the lack of incest but the lack of coherence. Ocean is not coherent with his new changes
Helen is now the boss of the Zane, but she doesn't act like one and worse she depends on Leia for her safety. Which would make sense if Helen was still the mother figure not related to the mob

A smaller and sillier example is Katie's nipple piercing that appears out of nowhere.

let's talk about the things that don't make sense:

William and Leia are "recruited" into the family to be used in possible marriages for alliances, it might be less stupid than someone might think many mafia organizations pass on archaic concepts, rituals and regulations, but it doesn't make sense because when they talk about not wanting Leia in command it's because she's a Pedersoli; Consequently both are never really seen as Zane a possible marriage that isn't Katie's would be worthless

Helen is said several times to be the boss, but depends for her protection on men who must be supplied and sent by Leia. Furthermore, despite the difficult period, the Zane Family should be the strongest in the territory but he and Scarlet are shown plotting to gather some crumbs of power. And Dylan talks about showing weakness by running away???
Still on the subject of Helen, it is now obvious that Helen has left William to rot in prison but now she is willing to wage war (with which men) on the other families if they try to exile him?

Katie being bullied... oh yeah now that the Zanes are family *insert godfather theme* someone bullied a boss' daughter. Not to mention that Dylan loves his daughter enough to have plans in case other families had their sights set on her and didn't make his bullies disappear into a pylon?
This isn't exactly nonsense but it is ironic that part of the rewrite was originally due to Wiab being written with his foot flat on the accelerator, and now Miru gets distracted for 5 seconds and we're already down Katie's throat (not that I'm complaining about it too much).

What I fear is that he has left a lot of blocks in both games connected to each other, which are supposed to build a broadly understood Oceanverse as a whole. And by making these changes, he will either be forced to change things connecting both games further to the point where they do not make any sense or they are simply not satisfying enough due to too much improvisation to force the blocks to fit together , or he will leave many things unchanged and the upcoming discoveries, which are supposed to be a meticulously discovered part of the planned intrigue at a time when Wiab was supposed to be something completely different, will end up devoid of any impact and emotional charge.

The games as independent creations can still come out on their own, but I have the impression that Oceanverse will fall to pieces. Let's be honest, to efficiently implement a universe that is to take place on several timelines and in several games, you need a lot of pre-production, cold planning and tedious methodological implementation over many years. Meanwhile, for some time now, Ocean has been giving the impression of a person whose entire work is the child of one big chaos

I am still in the wait-and-see camp.

My long-held view of SG and WIAB and i-cest is that Ocean had to go all in, one way or the other. Remove the nod, nod, wink, wink BS.

He's done that with WIAB - in a way that's alienated many fans. It is what it is.

In terms of the links between WIAB/SG and the whole OceanVerse - I think the main issue will be SG characters who are progeny of WIAB characters.

Ayua is the obvious example. She's most likely Miru and William's daughter (i.e. part Asian, knows Miru's secret family fighting style, has last name Zane). How will that work if WIAB has a path where the MC rejects Miru? Will that even be possible? Like I said, I am in the wait-and-see camp.

I liked the update - given that I had low expectations on story and lewd progress (it is Ocean "Mr. Slow Burn" after all. It became obvious less than halfway through the update that there would be no decent lewd scenes with characters other than Miru - given the MC has to be a good boy until after the meeting to decide his fate).

If nothing else, the update showed that William cannot trust anyone - not Helen, not Leia, not Fish, and possibly not Miru. The power games are high-stake, and they all seem to have hidden agendas involving William. It remains to be seen if those agendas are good or bad for the MC.

I absolutely loved the power plays between William and Leia. That scene in the toilet was brilliant. William deliberately pressed the gloryhole button knowing a dick would come through and that Leia was the only person who could "service" that dick. Leia took it like a champ without blinking. Leia 1, William 0).

I got the impression the update showed another side of Miru, not a particularly good one. Acting as a "mob enforcer," Miru went from normal to rock-and-roll in the blink of an eye. Then in the car, she coldly explained how she'd cut off a finger if necessary, before giddily asking the driver to stop for a smoothy. We know Miru met the Krayt gang member, and she told William over the phone that she'd get information out of him. Most ominous was Miru looking at her carving knife as she told William about the harmless method she'd use to get information.

So, William spoke to Helen from his remand cell. Leia definitely did not know William had been in prison (her reaction to the news was too genuine) and William lied to her when saying he couldn't make a call from remand. Fish apparently didn't know William had been in prison either. That means Helen knew about William but told no one (at least not Leia and Fish). I think there is much more to be unravelled there that will explain why William left suddenly. PS - Yes, I know William never once being able to call while in prison isn't realistic IRL.

Anyway, after purchasing WIAB on Steam for a measly 12 bucks - I have to acknowledge all of Ocean's WIAB Patreons. Without them, there would be no WIAB on Steam. So, a genuine and heartfelt thank you, all of you. I also acknowledge that many of those Patreons feel betrayed because WIAB has strayed from the themes they originally provided financial support for.
