He get more vote because he is main vilian in the game.
Plus public vote is always different from patreon vote.

I guess some people like the story with those they hate because it gives more drama or something... Or do they just see him as the best of a bad bunch - maybe they hate others more but aren't as vocal about it for whatever reason

Oh, no spoilers, but I definitely liked that Neil choice at the end btw (and wasn't expecting it). Just got to see if the person sticks to it now!

I think the people voting for him are the NTR lovers and the people complaining about him are the NTS fans. He is the perfect trope for NTR.

It s called the "Streisand Effect"!
The constant negative commentary, even if it's meant to be disparaging, keeps Neil's name and platform in the public consciousness. The more people talk about him, even in a negative way, the more name recognition he gets, which can lead to more votes. For me, Neil is just a pathetic asshole.
This in fact happens in so many games that have alternate paths. A list of hundreds could be made from just this site.
There are obviously a huge percentage of "paid" players who prefer to see the FMC corrupted by whoever is the "evil dude", by cheating on, and belittling the MC. Its a sado-masochistic reflex they may not even be aware of, and will vehemently deny if asked or suggested. Could give a dissertation on the causes of these reactions, but suffice to say, it is not the human norm, though they may believe it is. The fact they have the spare money to support so many devs, is a sign of the struggles they undertook to achieve the cash. Those struggles are reflected in their desire to undermine any relationship they envy. Especially with a hot woman. This way, they can "climb over" their rivals, the MC in this case.
The reflection of views you will see here are more representative of norms, I would say, because it allows a more widespread cross-section of avn lovers.

The club scene hooked it for me. Idk about all this other reasoning I see. It's not that deep; just great writing and characterization/ description of the environments; Creates a more complex and engaging atmosphere with a good antagonist.
