At the moment we don't know for sure.
We saw the accident where Emma mother and sister probably died. But Mark wasn't there. So we don't know if he died. Emma could think so but be wrong.

As i pointed out in an earlier post, given that 20ish years have passed since the Emma flashback events, which would put present day Mark at least around 40-50, depending on how old he was during the flashback.

Sorry, no fucking way i am buying that a 40-50yo guy's prostrate can produce enough fluid in 6hr or whatever the time limit was to fill up that big ass container.

If my supposition is right and the reality is the prison and lab, then the link between Emma and John is just that they are both prisoners.
Or it could be a link between them we haven't discover yet.

But perhaps there is no links at all between Emma and John.
This twisted game could be to just put 2 random strangers together and force them to do things they would not doing normally.
And to increased the stress of the situation, people related to each of them are introduced a couple of challenges.

I never thought about it, I can't really remember the face of the short-haired woman, but I'll look it up to see if it looks like Emma.
