I still can't understand why a game that's progressed so little in four years gets so much attention.

Mostly because the tease is real. The story concept, the characters, the renders, the writing. All show hints of what, could really be a great game. If the Dev could only get out of his own way and show some progress. Lots of adult games have this problem. The real dilemma is figuring out if the Dev is just milking for fun, or if he is a super OCD perfectionist. Either way, unless he pulls his head out of his own arse, the game will never get finished.
