Yet another post that essentially boils down to "if you don't like it, don't say anything". Granted, this one is phrased a bit more politely, I'll give you that. But here's the problem: giving money for the mere chance of influencing development is absurd for so many reasons that it's hardly worth breaking down here. On the other hand, voicing criticism in a public forum, especially one with a dedicated thread for this game, is far more effective. Not only does it ensure that your concerns are heard, it also keeps others informed about the reality of the situation.
And let's be clear: I've been "checking back in a year", as suggested, for several years now. The result? The game hasn't just failed to progress, it has regressed. For a project that's supposedly been "in development" for nearly a decade, with continuous financial backing, that is inexcusable. People absolutely deserve to know what they're getting into before deciding whether to support this.
The developer has been collecting funds through Patreon since at least April 2016, under the promise of building an open-world adult rpg. Almost a decade of funding later, what do we have in terms of actual gameplay? Nothing. People need to understand this. Staying silent in the face of what is essentially a scam(where is the promised game?) is no better than endorsing it. If you want to remain quiet, that's your choice. But I won't. Not when countless supporters are still holding out hope for a project that has failed to deliver for nearly ten years.
I mean yeah man. Do these supporters not have wills of their own? If they don't like the direction of it, they shouldn't donate. They should stop doing that. That might make things change. If they DON'T stop. They are co-signing the direction it's going in. That's what that means.
I'm not donating. I'm not suggesting anyone donate either. But I also recognize that that means my voice has limited importance.
Every single fucking thread on this platform you tune in and see the same fucking shit. "This update is not everything I ever asked for". All of them. I think that, MAYBE, developing things just takes more than people think it does. It's like this for most game development. No one is ever happy with the pace. Maybe people just aren't happy with how fucking long creating shit takes, huh?
10 years seems about right for a game this stupidly ambitious without a massive studio and team. Lets look up the budget of some similar games. It's honestly hard to think of any AAA ones with similar gameplay, because most big studios don't fall into this trap. Steam thinks this game is apparently similar to Mass Effect and God of War(2018), which is laughable. It's not a big grand narrative RPG. Maybe it's similar to andromeda in that it wants to be an openish world RPG? That's what andromeda is, right? Anyway $80-100m and $200m were the budgets. I could see Legend of Zelda BoW or ToK being more vaguely similar. Open world. Souls-ish combat. Additional mechanics overlaid onto that. (in our case it's porn) You talk to people. Estimated $120m and $100-$150ish is what I'm seeing. All made by massive, professional teams too.
Maybe it's more similar to something like Enshrouded? It's at least... a small studio. They both have 'explore, fight, survive' type marketing. Both are attempting to be pale imitations of souls combat. They're both perhaps-too ambitious open world games. Enshrouded is more survival, crafting, base building tho. Also more annoying to figure it's budgets out... I'm not putting much more than a few googles of effort in here... I keep seeing the number $10 million as initial budget, However. Did this game raise $10 mil? I don't think so. Kickstater says 100k was raised (which was like, half of what the goal seems to have been btw. Idk if they raised it), and patreon has... 10k members. I assume the number has been dropping? The lowest donation is 1 dollar. I don't think they're at $10 mil.
Maybe you should be more realistic about the things you get invested in. Like, I saw 'open world, unreal engine' and I ALREADY knew to not really raise those expectations years ago. Frankly. I'm surprised it hasn't been abandoned, or acted more shady. It's also a porn game that is posted freely here. And on steam too, even, it's not even funding itself via sales! Enshrouded is selling. It's selling 4 million copies. It's selling physical merch. As it too is also still in development, I'm sure that money goes into funding that, at least in part. So factor that into budget comparisons.
So my ultimate point is... the output really isn't that ridiculous for what's going on.
... Look man. I understand WANTING this game to be more. But it chose to be more ambitious than it should have been. Despite this, unlike many games that are far too ambitious, it's still being worked on and shows it's work. It isn't doing much obfuscation. It also delivers on the most important aspect of an E-game. The E part. It's good. I'm not suggesting anyone give them money. I'm not giving them money. I'm just suggesting we all bitch less. There are far better examples of scams in this space.
I just... don't give a fuck about hearing it. I like what I'm getting each update. I don't think it's a 'scam', and it's annoying to see people whine about it like it is each time it updates. What do you think you or anyone else is accomplishing here? You're just being a bummer. If I were making this shit I'd either not pay attention to any of you, or I'd hate having to update it at all, because I know it's gonna be a bummer each time. So good luck changing it by whining about it on the pirating site where it's posted freely.
It's not exactly a big faceless mainstream corporation we're dealing with here. It's an e-game. This isn't super serious shit. At literally any moment any nations law could wipe it's viability as a product away ENTIRELY. Don't get seriously invested in it, monetarily, or emotionally. This isn't fucking star citizen. ($800 million it's raked in btw)
You can read the change logs. They're making with the porn and chipping away at the game.
Consistently. That's about what you can expect. Especially if you aren't giving them any money yourself.
