Nono, he's saying no one lobbied for Godot, which is true. That's entirely consistent with your remark of "some demanding renpy". Besides, he didnt switch to gadot for mechanical advantages, he switched to monetize gameplay features without easy player modification which renpy allows for.

If after all this time, the game is back to square one, I think that sufficiently answers whether it's a worthwhile direction.

That's partially true. They don't want to support it because it's in Godot,they don't want to support it, because development time of this game is absolutely huge and game at last 5releases was bugged as hell
