Stupid question: You seem knowledgeable, you know it's not anti-virus intervening - so your game is starting up but 'fails silently', means to me OSX is turning it down, for some reason. Can be a simple permissions thing.Sorry but Mac version still doesn't launch. It starts to, then just fails silently. At least this is true on MacOS Mojave (10.14.2). ...
This is not an anti-virus or security issue, definitely something else. Never had this problem with any other version of the game, so it must be this build, or how it was compiled for Mac. ...
Me is not a Mac user, but this behaviour reminds me of typical 'access rights violation' (no read / write / create permit with files). Gives no obvious error message, only a note in some log file, like 'cannot read / write / create file in directory ...', nothing more. You may cause this error again, then check log files for a new entry (log updated at same time you were starting the game).
The account you are using has all access rights for the directory the game is launched from (read - write - create)? Including all files inside game folder? Know how to gain full rights for those files?? Because OSX is BSD-like you can probably do with usual Unix style commands. Think it's more practical to use console on the directory. Look up

- hope I'm right. :/btw I would run the Win game in Bootcamp just to verify it works there. Dunno, if it doesn't run under Win something is definitely afoul.
Good luck, and report back if you could fix the problem. So we know what was going on. Some people find help but forget to tell what tips helped, if they found a solution. Have a happy new year nonetheless.
