seems to me that these enormous quantity of dlc are becoming the main point by dev now...just looking at the progress posted above...Senia dlc is nearly done when the rest is still far from being done..a pity..i played this a while ago but after the 3rd forced restart due to save incompatibility and change in code ...i stopped playing it...now this dlcs happened too to drain time from main game...
These are all assumptions. Allow me to clarify. I seem to remember having had this discussion with you before. Pretty sure you know why the restarts were necessary, because I've explained this to you before. But I think this is an opportunity to pull back the curtain for everyone else who might be wondering similar things.
First point, about the restarts. WCA hit 1.0 on June 23rd, 2024. That was when backend systems were finalized, Season 1 and Season 2 were combined into the same game, and the game was fully released in its current state. There hasn't been any need to restart in over A YEAR.
Before 1.0, you were playing a product that was in beta. The backend systems in any version before 1.0 in any piece of software will be unfinished, and by playing a beta, you should understand that things require fixes, and fixes may result in restarts. It was a beta. A TEST. We could have kept the beta builds to ourselves and not let anyone play it until 1.0. But we didn't. We let you play it. For free. If you don't like that, I highly recommend you avoid any software with a version number that is less than 1.0.
There IS a goof in the call stack, but because the game runs fine and this doesn't cause any errors for players, I've opted not to fix it because it would force another restart, and I promised the community we wouldn't do that again after 1.0. Y'know. A year ago.
Second point, about DLCs "draining time from the main game." I have published our roadmap several times. I'll do so again here.
As you can see, we have a concrete plan for alternating Side Story patches where we add scenes to the Side Stories of the girls pictured, and Main Story patches where we drop an entire episode at once. The 1.8.0.0 patch will be the end of the main story, and from that point on, we'll be focusing on filling out all the Side Stories.
Any DLC work happens when we can't work on the main game, either due to one of us waiting on the others to finish something, or just plain burnout. So your assertion that the DLC content is "draining time from the main game" is patently incorrect.
Sometimes it's better to ask questions when you don't understand something, rather than to make a bunch of assumptions and go spreading misinformation. Another thing I should share with you:
This is from our internal kanban board where we track what tasks need to be done and what is completed. As you can see, Senia only has 89 tasks, while Episode 5 has a full 288. Percentage-wise, sure, it looks like we've been doing more work on Senia than on the main story. But in reality, we've done nearly double the work on this next main story episode as as we have on Senia's story.
To break this down, Senia has 22 total scenes and Season 2 Episode 5 has 70. More than 3 times the size of Senia's side story. Episode 5 is massive, and there are some special things we're having to do to resolve a lot of the things people have been waiting for, such as Nook's situation, River's, and Cecilia's. There are individual scenes in this next build that took me 6 hours to do. 6 hours. For one scene. And Episode 5 has 70 of them.
For comparison, S2E4 had 15 scenes. S2E3 had 18. S2E2 had 18. And again, S2E5 has 70. Episode 5 is so big that I'm honestly considering releasing it in 2 parts. And even with that size, we've managed to complete nearly half of it in 2 months, which is FAR faster than I'd have been able to do when I was solo. We are TEARING through this episode.
Lastly, I don't really get why you're complaining about DLC characters at all. If we were about to release our 11th DLC character and the main game hadn't had an update for over a year, I'd understand the complaint. I've seen devs do that, and yeah, I agree, that'd be kinda shitty. But the last update to WCA's main game was in May 25th, 2025. It hasn't even been a full 2 months since then, and Senia is our first DLC character in 4 years. We'll probably only release Senia and 1 other DLC character (MAYBE 2) by the time we get the Main Story finished.
So DLC has zero negative impact on the main game. In fact, releasing a DLC character or two could HELP the main game deliver updates faster, because we'll have more things that people can buy or sign up on the support sites for, and more money means less time at work to pay the bills and more time working on WCA, which will mean faster and more substantial updates to WCA for everyone to enjoy.
If you wanna help with that, the SubscribeStar and Patreon links are in our signatures. If you really want the main game updates to come faster, feel free to pitch in. Door's open if you wanna make a difference.
