Personally not a fan of NTR, cheating and netori/cucking.

I've been cheated on once in the past though now its more of a lesson learnt.
My parents though, had a shit load of stuff going on. Infidelity, revenge cheating, false abuse claims, custody battles, parent's boy/girl friends taking advantage, step parents issues etc. It was extremely chaotic, had a huge negative impact on me growing up, though luckily enlisting helped me & my brother escape part of it. Its the primary reason why i absolutely hate anything to do with cheating, cucking/netori, NTR.

That said, i have no issues disassociating reality from fiction and sometimes enjoy the occasional NTR games as they're done really well, credit is due where credit is deserved. Either narrative wise or lewd scenes(ngl, these genres usually have the hottest lewd scenes due to its forbidden nature). For the most part, i avoid it, even if its optional. I'm fine with devs pursuing these genres, its their prerogative though there are 1 or 2 games that are really good but is a huge shame that it has NTR. But i don't whine about it, its their game afterall.

FWB relationship for example but nothing beyond that I don't see it as be NTR until it turns into a commitment of some sort.
depends how it's written. very easy to write a story where mc first has FWB sex with someone, the after while feelings begin to get hurt. in fact every movie that has ever employed that setting has gone that way. you fuck someone more than 1-2 times and very soon expectations of having some kind of claim to the other person will develop.

but yeah, it can just as well be written the opposite way, mc not having any feelings about it. and that could never be ntr, regardless of how many dummies thought so. people are super ignorant about most fetishes.

Who wants to play a game to lose? NTR is losing. I like winning. Harem and Netori is superior
Have you read the "War Game", a short sci-fi story by Philip Dick? Experts are inspecting children's toys from an enemy country for hidden dangers. They've banned all the complex and interesting ones out of fear that something might go wrong. However, they let a clone through without fully understanding it. In the end, the true nature of the situation becomes clear.

Actually, if we do genderswap these guys, we get, from left to right
- a perverted otaku meganekko
- a bratty gyaru
- a dark-skinned tribal tomboy
- a cheeky loli

It's going to be a typical harem story, and all these girls are going to ntr the female childhood friend of our MC.

I'm unsure if anyone has approached it from this angle, but from what I've experienced as an NTR hater, is simply because it's polarizing.

In the past, there wasn't anyway to exclude specific tags during searches. You could include tags, but not exclude them. This created a weird dynamic where if you search tags you do want, you'd sort of be forced to wade through content you didn't like. It resulted in people discovering games they thought were interesting, but didn't notice the NTR tag and were blind sighted.

Plus, there was a very brief time period where NTR fans were very vocal. I remember seeing random comments popping up from people asking for it to be included in games without it. Some developers actually listened to those fans, and a very small minority of games added NTR in a random update (I don't remember the games anymore, they're likely all dead anyway.)

NTR haters began to crop up as a result of all of this. A bit of paranoia sparked, and anti-NTR became a massive trend. There were also several large-scale arguments cropping up on numerous threads, mostly due to trolling, but there was also some NTR lovers who would also fan the flames.

Throughout all of this, the 'neutral' people started to despise NTR haters. It became 'popular' to be an NTR-hater hater. This further fueled the discourse, and while most of the NTR lovers had mostly became silent, the NTR-hater haters began to further fuel the arguments.

NTR-haters felt like they had become the #1 enemy of the forums. They grew more extreme, and the more people pushed back against their ideals, the more extreme they became. It certainly never helped that as a community, we could never come to an agreement on what "NTR" actually means in the first place, which only caused more arguments, even amongst the NTR-haters.

Meanwhile, outside of the adult gaming community, the NTR genre was growing in popularity. Rather it be hentai, or mainstream porn. Then the black/red pill crap started which only aggravated everything in the community even further.

So anyway, this is the origins of the communities NTR thing. At least from my perspective.

The biggest indicator of being a toxic
some people cannot disengage from it being a fictional story and CANNOT do anything but self insert as the MC
This is by far the biggest group among the people that are obnoxious enough to be a "hater." People can prefer to self-insert into these VNs, and there is usually no problem from these people that do it as a choice. But there are some that cannot even fathom not self-inserting. I'd say they lack some amount of brain development and do not possess the ability to consider other people's experiences and viewpoints. Fitting, then, that they literally think the MC is them. And when some group of NTR enjoyers literally tell them that netorare genre has the best female corruption arcs and can be enjoyed for that without having to self-insert as the loser MC, they vehemently reject it because they cannot imagine not self-inserting (and probably also because they want to label them as a cuck to feel superior).

In the rare instances where I managed to enegage in somewhat civil discourse about the topic, the people that reject the non-self-insert reading of NTR (for FMC corruption, usually) as being a valid reason to enjoy the content are overwhelming people that reject our ability to not self-insert as the MC. They just can't wrap their heads around this seemingly mysterious ability.
