well yes he is terrible at coding i think his looking for a professional now. it's properly for the best. coding was never his thing . but the first rival took only 2 weeks for the rest of the time he was improving the game. i think is looking better then before. the graphics of the game will be improved before he start working on the new rival. so properly the game will be finished in 2021. yet i think the drama was because of his actions in 2016
No offence, but you really sound in denial.

No, the first rival did not take only two weeks.... sure YandereDev did not only worked on the first rival during all of those years. A lot of (mostly useless) features were added to the game, in addition to bug fixes, but there are news about the first rival being developed since a very long time.

The actual issues with Yandere Simulator code is not about the performances (compilers are really good to auto optimize code), but the fact its software architecture is unmaintainable. Again, maybe YandereDev is an hardworking person, I am not here to fuel the hate against him, but he made a lot of poor technical choices. That is normal for any new developer, but he apparently did not acknowledged the technical debt (poor code), and it became more expensive, years after years. Now YandereDev probably needs days to develop or fix something that would require a few hours with a good architecture.

I also would not count on the possibility of external professional developers being hired. You should google "tinyBuild Yandere Simulator", you would see that, again, the game's history is filled with mismanagement and unprofessionalism.

Because he keeps setting deadlines he won't keep. He managed to keep this promise (releasing Osana) but that doesn't excuse the times he broke his promise in the past. Plus, with 9 more rivals to go he'll probably have to redo all everything else he has done to balance the game, it looks far off.

He built the game the wrong way round. He should have started with the rivals, and then slowly built up systems (for example, clubs) around them. Instead he built systems without any real purpose, and has only recently started on the reason they need to be in place. And he might just find that some of those systems or either overpowered, or pointless.

yeah other game devs have goals like innoxia who don't keep them between them and yandev the difference is they tells us when something goes wrong, isn't toxic to their fan base, and credits contributors. yandev doesn't tell us when something goes wrong, hes mean to the people giving actual criticism to make the game better then blocks them from anywhere were he has power, and doesn't credit anything with out a fight.

edit also its the difference between 3 week for innoxia and years for yandev

I have yet to see a single Unity game run decently on a potato, toaster as you called it. They'll run, sure, but not as well as on a mid tier or higher. That's the issue here, potatoes can't handle Yandere Simulator. It would be even worse on Unreal. The quality of the visuals has less impact than you're thinking. We're talking a game with a bunch of roaming NPCs, all with their own coded schedules, and a whole bunch of other graphics all needing to show up at once or at least be capable of it. You've got the blood spatter, flowers for the censored mode, the dismemberment, the water from the fountains, the movements of every NPC. Also keep in mind that all of this is pretty much loaded at all times except when not in actual school gameplay.

My potato is 9 years old and my mid tier is 4, but that isn't the issue. Sure, it will come into play as those tend to use lines of hardware that aren't as capable as their successors, so even a mid tier from the last decade won't get the same performance as one from this decade on Yandere Simulator or any Unity game. The other part about what all is supposed to be loaded in and capable of appearing from the reply above this applies to you as well.

It used to run fine on my potato, but that was before a lot of the stuff was added, including the school map change that added the fountains, trees, and other things. Sure, there's probably some coding issues in there somewhere, as there would be with any one man game, one man plus volunteers in this case.
Cod mobile, Cuphead, Scape from tarkov, Animal Crossing:pocket Camp, Firewatch, Getting over it, beat saber, hearthstone, Subnautica, Kerbal Space Program, Inside, Fall guys, Amoung us (i believe? idk about this last one) And the list goes and goes and goes.
A big chunk of the Android store and (alot) of Switch games are made in Unity.

Unity doesnt force developers to post the logo if they are subscribed to a plan (Much less if they are a large company).
That is why you will probably never know when a well develop game was made in Unity, with few exceptions like Cod Mobile and Animal Crossing, which were announced by Unity (for cod mobile, they even presented a GDC in 2019).

Probably partly because of the insane amount of one person projects that end up abandoned here.

Can't argue with that, I finally got the chance to look at the code itself, you don't want to know the trouble I had to go through because Unity, and it really is a disorganized mass of spaghetti. I know nothing of Unity itself, but I almost guarantee I would at least be better at structuring the freaking code so it is at least readable to anyone looking at it without issue. The code in this thing is one of the few that can actually give me a freaking headache, I have no idea YanDev can stand this mess.

Because he keeps setting deadlines he won't keep. He managed to keep this promise (releasing Osana) but that doesn't excuse the times he broke his promise in the past. Plus, with 9 more rivals to go he'll probably have to redo all everything else he has done to balance the game, it looks far off.

You can tell a Unity program by the file types as well. I have Subnautica AND its expansion, by the way. They don't run very well at all on my potato, but will on my mid tier, the same as Yandere Simulator. Also, Subnautica and similar don't have everything loaded at once, Yandere Simulator does, which is the whole point of certain settings like the draw distance thing he implemented a while back.

That excuse works if you miss one or two deadlines. If you keep missing deadlines, even if it is due to stuff out of your control, either stop making promises or sit down and work harder till you do.

Nobody would be complaining about the game if he hadn't promised so much and delievered so little in 6 years. (pointless side fluff doesn't count, until there is an actual game to support it)

It works for ALL issues regardless of number, even for a project with an egocentric dev like Yandere Simulator. Harder work wouldn't have made the deadlines that Yandere Simulator supposedly missed, it would have only served to frustrate YanDev even further. It just isn't that simple in something where every character you type could break everything. Also, YanDev never made any promises, he only outlined what was happening in the development of Yandere Simulator at the time of a particular update, though he did keep some things under wraps to keep from spoiling anything for us before the update was even out. I think you're thinking of a different game, Lilith's Throne by Innoxia, maybe? The one where 99% of all update posts are about how Innoxia can't make the deadline because whatever flavor of the month content, meaning whatever is being worked on at the time of the post, is causing some sort of issues. At least Yandere Simulator hasn't had content stripped or discontinued in any future plans because it was too tedious to maintain or some other BS excuse. For context, look up the companion system in the Lilith's Throne thread.

I've never heard of that other game. I'm not talking about another game. All I'm saying is that don't make promises you can't keep. And he has made promises in the past, claiming the game will be done by 2018, saying Osana would be released a month ago, ect. If I cared to make fun of the other game and argue with it's fans I'm sure I could use it failing deadlines as a point.

And you are saying that yandere simulator not stripping content is a good thing. Alex has shoved in so many mechanics and systems into the game on a whim that the game is filled with currently useless fluff, that may or may not be used in the future. He can't know if any of the mechanics that are currently in the game actually be balanced or useful, until the rivals are in the game and people play test.

Also, while alex has no actual obligation (he doesn't have a boss who can fire him) to meet deadlines, repeating failing deadlines is a sign that you shouldn't trust the person. I get it, shit happens, I've made promises that I couldn't keep. But I'll either not promise again or make another one that I'm sure that I can make (basic time management skills). Honestly he is just lucky that his patreon users haven't noticed the lack of progress and eat up his excuses.

There have been no promises by YanDev, though he has expressed desired goals to meet that he ultimately did not. Even if he had, there is never a guarantee in game development that it will happen, anything can go wrong at any time and that can delay it for any length of time, the actual length being a case by case basis that depends entirely on the combined skill of the dev, which is admittedly not very high for YanDev, and the severity of the issue. I'm not sure what you are talking about on useless mechanics, everything that isn't an easter egg has a use. If you get caught carrying something that is too large to hide, like a body, you get a reputation loss and/or a near instant game over if the student council, the delinquents, or a teacher sees you. That's why the saw is there to dismember bodies so you can hide them in a portable instrument case, that's why there are now lockers to hide bodies in, that's why there is a sneaking mechanic, so you don't get caught. SNAP mode allows you to continue even if caught under certain conditions, murdering every person in reach, then senpai, then yourself. The ability to kidnap and torture allows you to arm a mind slave and she will then go kill the assigned target for you, then herself, keeping you out of suspicion when the police investigate. The sanity mechanic serves as a balance so the player can't just go on a murder spree as they wish with no consequences, allowing NPCs more time to notify the police as your murders get more violent and causing you to eventually auto murder anyone in reach like the SNAP mechanic. It also serves as a way to arouse suspicion in NPCs that there is a crazed serial killer on the loose. The mood mechanic serves a similar purpose, putting all NPCs on guard as mood decreases. The council itself serves a purpose as they make the possibility of instant game over even more of a threat with their pepper spray mechanic, though that still needs a bit of an explanation as most schools, all really, would not allow pepper spray for anyone but cops. The clothing swap mechanic allows you to clean yourself off so you aren't bloody as it will get you caught if you are. You will also arouse suspicion if you walk around all bloody unless you are wearing the painter's smock, which requires being a member of the art club. The gaming club allows you to further raise your stats. The sports club allows you to carry sports equipment without suspicion. The music club allows you to access the instrument case to store dead bodies for secret transportation to the incinerator. The science club gives you access to a robot that can clean blood puddles far more efficiantly than you with a mop. The occult club allows you to summon demons that can give you powers to help eliminate your targets. The gardening club gives you access to the shed, which has the saw, and a wood chipper to disintegrate body parts. This is also how you get gasoline to set people on fire. I could go on about how useful every mechanic is, but I really don't want to be typing all day.

Ah so he "expressed goals" that he "couldn't meet" all the time being paid monthy for not reaching them

I don't think you understand. Those ideas sound good in theory, but until the rivals are finished you don't know what will actually be good, and what will be useless.

Look, an example of this is, idk, hearthstone. I haven't followed in a few years, but I remember when I did when a new season came so did a new set of cards, like 100 new cards. The streamers and Youtubers I watched would rate the cards as they were revealed, but they couldn't play them yet, just think about it.

Once they actually could play with the cards though, the reality of how good the cards are appeared. Usually there were obvious good cards that were good, but every time there would be suprises, high rated cards are actually bad, low rated cards are actually good. Eventually people will figure out the meta, certain decks would be created with high win rates and used all the time, and generally a lot of cards would be forgotten.

Applying this to yandere simulator, you can rate the mechanics now, but until it comes out, who knows what will actually be useful, and what will be ignorable fluff. And good luck trying to balance all that. Plenty of video games made by teams of professionals still have balance problems.

Hell now I'm thinking of playing the demo just to see what mechanics are useful and what is pointless (may give an idea of future builds, but like I said, who knows)

Also I'm certain that the fps counter is lying to me when I enter yandere vision and I need to fix the graphics so it isn't short-sighted simulator.

Everything up to now was done for free, nobody was paying for a product and any money given was as a donation, meaning his goals being reached or not had nothing to do with him being paid except affecting who did or did not pay and how many. Everything from the kickstarter on will be charged for from what I understand, so he will have an obligation to uphold from the next release on assuming he maintains this paid model. The thing is, you could eliminate anyone at any time with any of these methods, meaning you can test them out before ever seeing an actual rival. It can help the player to know exactly what is where and what NPCs do at what time in order to avoid them. This is a stealth game after all, so timing is everything. Balance is always an issue, you're right, and YanDev has already begun some of that process. That's where the sanity and mood mechanics come in, same with the QTEs for stealing stuff if you go that route. He's also implemented downsides to certain things. Use a weapon without gloves and you will be found out when the police investigate. Walk around with blood on you, you lose reputation. Walk around with low enough sanity, you better hope to god you don't get in arms length of anyone or it will trigger an automatic murder that you may not want. Do anything that is a rules infraction, get sent to the guidance councilor. Get sent to the guidance councilor enough, game over. There are a lot of things already in with the purpose of balancing the mechanics so neither you nor the NPCs are too powerful. As far as graphics, you'll be fine as long as you run something that isn't a potato.

That excuse works if you miss one or two deadlines. If you keep missing deadlines, even if it is due to stuff out of your control, either stop making promises or sit down and work harder till you do.

Nobody would be complaining about the game if he hadn't promised so much and delievered so little in 6 years. (pointless side fluff doesn't count, until there is an actual game to support it)
In his defense, Star Citizen and CIG are a thing. They've gone from 2012-2020 before people started getting really angry at their "roadmap for a roadmap, roadmap". So give it two more years?

Edit: If you haven't noticed from my earlier post, the gfx leak issue seems to have gotten worse from before osana build. So RIP.

Soon, you will, like dwarf fortress, be able to run yanderesim only on the vast monolith stuck inside the Chernobyl npp... Except DF is eons better.

This game again? A lot of fundamental issues(both from the developer and from the game) and (a)serious problem(s) that it is still unsolved from day zero.
Regardless, l give it TheFinger/10

May everyone learn from his mistakes(from his attibute to people, programming style, to simple thinking) and never to repeat them because history likes to repeat itself.
