Yeah maybe, I don't agree with the guy you're replying to because she really could've just frozen up and had that kind of psychological reaction, and not wanting to be touched at all after what JUST happened to her, is also plausible.
However her reaction to Caleb is completely sus, combine that with how shocked Daniel himself looked...
I wouldn't be too surprised if we find out later that he was brainwashed/magically compelled into doing it and she knew but maybe didn't exactly expect what he did

There’s nothing unusual about Marie’s behavior. Many victims of rape begin to distance themselves from their partners and redirect their anger and resentment toward them, even when that partner and the rapist are unrelated.

All Caleb needed to do was stay by her side, something he himself later admits. Instead, he misinterpreted her needs and made the situation about himself, which he also openly admits. At this point, trying to shift the blame onto Marie feels like mental gymnastics.

It’s also strange to treat the Marie from the backstory as the same person we see during the current events in the game. They’re quite different people.

It only means that she didn't openly blame Daniel in front of him.

While her passive-aggressive hate towards Caleb can be understandable, because he was much more fixated on revenge than on her health, it IS mentioned multiple times that she didn't hate Daniel and actually forgave him right away. She never considered Daniel bad, but Caleb yes, even before he killed Daniel. That's the part that makes me kind of doubt Marie even in the past. Caleb was an asshole, yes, and she had any right to be traumatized by both the situation and his behavior. But NEVER even having any ill feelings towards her rapist Daniel, NEVER, that's... I don't know, it doesn't sit right with me. That's just my opinion, but it feels wrong.

you conveniently forgot to mention the binding part not to mention how she basically blackmailed him with the life of his friends,how generous of her to offer him the lapdog part. But it's for her greater good i guess, she will save everyone in her greatness,she is the real good mc of the game.

Plus the hidden compelling that would have made him a SLAVE to Marie. It's been admitted officially. Current Marie is doing it for herself. She tried to manipulate and blackmail Caleb into becoming her slave to save herself.

I got into the second chapter, and it was very enjoyable, but it brought a lot of confusion about Marie's true nature and intentions. The more I read, the more it seemed like her connection to Caleb would never be as strong as it once was, it would only hurt to try and mend something THAT broken. Marie's new persistence drew an already depressed Caleb into more self loathing. She knowingly abused his curiosity, guilt and love. The best option is for Caleb is to try and spare his sanity with brutal honesty and a willingness to be cruel to his enemies, so that he may properly protect his real friends the second time around. He did not feel obligated to act out for the "greater good."

I also don't understand the guilt felt over Daniel's death. It was a tragedy, but Caleb's revenge was justified, even if it was considered a partly selfish act. It was clearly personal, so how else was he expected to deal with treachery when all other avenues were shut down? With the information available to him in flashbacks, we know that Caleb and Marie were horribly betrayed by Daniel. Caleb was then emotionally and physically rebuffed by Marie, who was also in dire need of support that she denied herself. I cannot hold Caleb responsible for Daniel's spite, or Marie's reactions. She even forgave Daniel and scorned Caleb for his rage. That said, it was a bad idea to allow another who openly referred to himself as a romantic RIVAL, to get that close to his girlfriend.

On an unrelated note, the early opportunities to rank up specific attributes are a bit frustrating to deal with. Most experience points are connected to scenes with love interests. So if you want more resilience, you have to give up on several chances to hold hands with a LI.

And that's exactly why my view is different from the one imposed on MC by the writer. Assuming MC knows no more than what we saw in those flashbacks, there was absolutely nothing wrong with declaring that relationship dead.

He was resented and pushed away like he was the one who raped her. That's a relationship killer right there. That being the result of trauma is irrelevant. Some people deal with trauma in way that doesn't royally fuck up their relationship with their loved ones. Others don't and end up doing just that. From everything we saw, she was the latter.

Unless we see why it was a mistake to think that dead relationship as dead, I can only take his admission as yet another indication this dude is a self-loathing weirdo with a martyr complex. Which absolutely checks out in terms of his overall characterization.

You can't have it both ways. You're saying that Caleb was justified in giving up on the relationship because Marie's trauma led her to push him away and that from his view it was dead. But then you dismiss his later admission that this belief was a mistake as "self-loathing" and a "martyr complex".

So just to be clear. You're fine buying into Caleb's perspective without question when he's emotionally wrecked and resentful, but when he reflects later - not just about Daniel, but about his own motivations - you handwave it as unreliable guilt. Either his emotions are valid or they're not.

If you're going to build your defense on how he felt at the time, maybe don't throw that version of him under the bus as an unreliable weirdo the moment he comes to the conclusion he was wrong.

What's more, you're imposing your own rationalizations onto a character with a completely opposite mindset. The mindset he consistently showed throughout the story. Caleb never acted like someone who could force a person to commit suicide and then live with it normally. But you admit your view differs from his, and you’ve acknowledged that people have different moral compasses.

Death penalty =/= lynching.

Ah but remember lynchings are typically done by mobs/large groups of people, in fact when Leo Frank was lynched it was because his connections allowed him to avoid execution eventhough he was convicted. Lynchings are/were popular in the areas they happen, that's why they could even happen in the first place. In a way it was a mass demonstration of the citizens against what they saw as corruption.
But that's beside the point because by definition what the MC did wasn't lynching since lynching requires a group.

I have save files before the new Update but it's with Walkthrough mod. So when I Try safe start without mod, I still got this Error.

I'm playing Selena's path now and I didn't remember that MC was a 24 years old virgin, so I've checked the gallery and while replaying the scene with Swansong at the club, MC indeed says that he never had sex with Marie, he even has never seen her naked.
So following all the discussions I've read here about Marie, MC and Daniel, I'm even more confused because it means that Daniel not only raped her but also took her virginity (not confirmed but very likely). And she never screamed, never cried, and when MC finds her she looks as good as new (sorry for the poor choice of words), not even a torn clothing. I feel really really bad for what happened to her but I also can't stop feeling that something is wrong here. And as said many times here, she or her mother never reported Daniel to the police, they rejected MC instead, how logical.....

Constext is Caleb never avenged her ever and was on friendly talking terms with Daniel. Nobody avenged her and thus nobody was worthy of her love. MC literally wanted to go through the same pain as Marie and spent his time locked up in his room and paralized in his bed. MC convinced Daniel to unalive himself with nothing for retribution, nothing for redemption, coming to him form a place of friendship, offered him a beer - MC tricked Daniel like he would any demon, but that was nothing to do with cauterizing his wound, because having him just stay there and watch does nothing for anybody. MC managed to kill himself precisely because he botched the revenge so horrendously that his pain never subsided and he wasted Daniel basically for nothing. MC was going to die, he did kill himself, that is why Caleb told Lilith in no uncertain terms he was 100% dead and it was her who saved him making the saviors find him - he had chosen wisely and was sure to die - as he could not remember anything after the pills managed to take effect. Caleb incomprehensibly chose NOT TO ALLY HIMSELF WITH MARIE - THE DEVIL HE KNEW BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE, INSTEAD HE ALLIED HIMSELF WITH THE DEAN WHO ALMOST KILLED HIM right in her office becasue he knew nothing AND DIRECTLY ORDERED HIS MURDER.
MC is a wonderful idiot mind right there. They went through the ceremony of ash TO FORGET EVERYTHING AND START FRESH but it seems that a bunch of players and some scripted MC disastrous decisions that thwart a very sound proposition: purge themselves of the past and start a new future.

Soooo... I don't think, it's the mod.
I can't replicate the error and I didn't edit any lines, that could cause this.

In this post the dev says, that reloading an older save seems to fix this bug.

To me it looks like the bug is cause by these files.
