Donations have nothing to do with it. Dude just does it because people praise his works. You can achieve the same result by praising and commenting on works you like.
Lot of people forget that artists often times do things they like but also do things that they perceive their audience likes and by god, feet people are loud as fuck. His X post comments are an example of that.

He hasn't done commissions for 2 years or so. I'd know it because I was among people who wanted to comm him too. Unfortunately didn't get lucky and some people were faster than me to claim the spots.
I don't blame him for not doing commissions. ZMSFM has never been a money focused person so I don't blame him for not wanting to open comms. More so when his whole thing is doing animations he likes at an insane quantity and quality.
