you cannot tell her you're making a smutty game, nor do you have much motivation anymore now that you're in a different position in life
Honestly: If one finds confidence in themselves, they can be open about it.
Sure, maybe not tell their parents or the like, but a partner?
I'd not be shy about that. Then again, the games I've worked on were of a more mundane variety.

I think you're onto something here...nearly every VN created has most people wondering if the Dev has ever had an interaction beyond saying "hi" to the opposite sex, and things like being an Alpha male, seduction and betrayal go only as far as articles the Dev has read online.
The porn fear is real, but it shouldn't be...women are perverts just like men, more so in many cases...plus porn is THE most profitable business venture in the world...no other business can make as much money as porn with little to no "education". Not to mention, porn is so mainstream these days, if you're making money from it, nobody would care.
Thats a perfect point, almost anyone could in theory make some money doing porn games, You could be Coomer incarnate if the game is good ppl will give you support.

Perhaps it is, perhaps it won't be.. the future will tell. I like the our fate vn and it's pretty sad what happend, but i also don't care if someone, following the same passion, somewhat finishes this one
That would be fine. Only thing is. Someone already did try that. He got a cease-and-decist from this Dev to stop making it. This Dev doesn't want to continue, but doesn't want anyone else to profit off his intellectual property.

That's what some people don't understand when they tell other devs to take over games, the devs have copyright on their creation and legally own them. Unless they get permission from that dev, they can't just take over someone elses game.
Still seems like a major dick move from Cedsense. The game has been abandoned for years now. Even if they went back to it, they would probably end up redoing the whole thing because of how out of date the renders look now. Because otherwise we end up in a situation like "Single Again" where the dev changed out the engine and models and everyone got upset because the main love interest no longer looked like the same girl. It's the same problem we already saw with Vix's rendition of the daughter in this game.. she looked REALLY different at first, and even with tweaking she just still didn't really look the same. It kind of ruins the game for people who fell in love specifically with the original character. It's like swapping in a completely different person and expecting us not to notice.

Anyway, if they're really going to continue it, then do it. Don't stop other people from working on it, or at least help them by giving them the model choices, settings, etc so they can at least make it look right. Maybe work with them on where you wanted the story to go or something, if you can't be bothered to do it yourself but still have ideas.

someone taking over means it will be a different game with the same title. so instead of trying to get permission anyone who wants to they can make a new game with the same premise. and they wont have to worry or care about the dev

I feel like that's what "Lost at Birth" and "Reclaiming the Lost" are. Lost at Birth is actually done by the same person that was attempting to do the continuation of Our Fate; V19XX. (Or at least they're part of the dev team on it.)

I think they liked the premise and after getting shut down by CedSense they decided to just create their own game based on that premise. I'm glad they did as I find the model in LaB to be better looking than their attempt at duplicating the daughter from Our Fate.

Hmm. First you say it's a dick move, but then you give arguments why it's NOT a dick move.

The game (or book, comic, tv-series whatever) belongs to the original creator. And I don't mean in the legal sense, but it's his story, his vision. Somebody else may make something decent based on the original premise, but it cannot be the same.

So if Cedsense doesn't want someone else, who is clearly talented, to finish the project, then I think all we can do is respect his wishes, even if we would have hoped for something else. We can only hope that Cedsense does eventually return to finish this, but if not, then we still need to live with that.

Then you're not reading very carefully.

Abandoning the game but then refusing to let anyone else continue it is a dick move. And if he was worried about it looking different, as I said, he could provide the settings etc to match the characters and even give ideas for where the story was going etc. To intentionally just kill the game and not let ANYONE continue it is a dick move.

The parts about the character looking different is a separate issue. Again, one that could be addressed by giving the settings so that characters could be matched. Refusing to do that on top of refusing to do any more releases is intentionally killing the game and making sure it stays dead.

He could even stipulate that the continuation is clearly marked as a fan fiction version of the story and not the canonical one. Just to keep fans happy while they wait probably forever for the official continuation.

CedSense COULD certainly continue the game as is. He doesn't have to update the engine and models etc like "Single Again" did. I'm sure everyone would prefer it stay the same as it was.

But again, to refuse to do ANY of this, and make sure the game stays dead... that's a dick move. It's a layer cake of dick moves.

Again, while true, doesn't mean it's still not a dick move. It's still a dick move for the reasons given above. He could either continue it, or help someone else create some new chapters or something for it, a bit like how "Big Brother" has had a million spin offs.

Intentionally killing the game outright by refusing to continue it himself OR let anyone else continue it, is a dick move.

So if Cedsense doesn't want someone else, who is clearly talented, to finish the project, then I think all we can do is respect his wishes, even if we would have hoped for something else. I don't have to respect it in the sense of holding it in any sense of esteem or high regard. I only have to respect it in the legal sense of not violating his copyright. Two very different definitions of the word "respect." I think he's a dick for abandoning it and then refusing to let anyone else continue it, legal right or not.

I hope he returns to it, but as the years go by I start to care less and less as other better looking and interesting games come along. And knowing that he pulled the dick move of intentionally killing V19XX's attempt to continue the story with a new release, new models, etc... that just makes me less interested in seeing this story continue. Let it die. I'll follow the other games listed above. Lost at Birth, and Reclaiming the Lost, both of which are better looking now anyway.

I do understand you as a player, but I also can understand cadsense to not allow it. It is his work, his creation, his "baby". Even he abandoned it. He had a vision for the game and how the story would have been going on. Someone else take over now and most likely make a different continuation as cadsense had in mind - I would not want that either if I where in cadsense position.

Maybe.

In any case, the continuation of a project by someone else than the original creator, is going to be different and probably not as good. Which I think is a legitimate reason not to allow someone else to continue it.

Of course, allowing someone else to continue it and accept that the result may be different to the original, is also legitimate.

However both scenario's will lead to angry or disappointed fans.
