I can understand that you want to have this and that there is more than enough reason for that, but so far the dev is at least to some extent communicating with their patreons, so the game is not yet abandoned.
Even if there are no updates yet, the dev did not clearly say (since there are messages) that the game will no longer be developed.

A shame. I used to be a Succulence 1 Patron. RNest used to be one of the reliable creators, releasing real updates monthly.
I suspect they bit off more than they could chew with some sub-project and then just couldn't recover. Same thing happened to vren on Labrats 2. Super reliable creator who got too ambitious and couldn't deliver. Then they just ghosted the community.

His Patron is a perfect template for a scam artist to finesse the crap out of patrons.
Here i have put together the most notable bullshit expectations he gave throughout the year. He gave hard release dates 8 times in total and didn't meet one of them. There is even much more bullshit if you include the "need 2 more days", "need another another week" and the excuse posts in-between etc.
This is not normal behaviour and gives a high possibility the patron account was sold off or passed to someone else which is why this game is liable for the abandoned tag.... that and along with the last release being over a full year now since last release.
More times than not he clearly knew days before the release that he couldn't meet the expectations but still let it roll up to the date or even after the date leaving people waiting. But all in all this dose not excuse giving a release date when the game version is not published and ready for release when he gives a release date.
He should be working on the next update when he gives one of those releases.

29th Jan 2023 - 0.65 release announced for 22nd feb
15th Feb - 5 day delay for announcing game (now 27th feb) because needed more time to work on update
21st Feb - Update postponed because some mechanics were not working properly and few bugs to iron out
6th March - 0.65 release announced for March 17th
17th March - Release date cancelled as it is still not perfect claimed 0.65 status was at 82% complete
17th April - 0.65 release announced for 25th April
22nd April - release date delay by 5 days (30th April now) as need to re-do a part in it
27th April - advised needs few more days as he over critically thinks when a release date comes close. Then threatens to quit and release all source code since its been 5 months since a release in order to re-motivate himself
30th April - new release schedule will be in may and now in good spirits again after supportful patrons comments after last post
24th May - Release date announced for 31st May (undocumented version)
31st May - hurt wrist release delayed - throwing up another test release
17th June - Release date announced for 18th/19th June (undocumented version)
20th June - Hand healed causing a breakthrough, however needs to delay the release as new secret feature being added
1st July - Release date announced for 4th July May (plans on doing side story's instead, starting with side story#1)
5th July - Burned out release delayed - 3 week break
21st october - Release date aanounched for 31st October
29th October - Caught Flu 3 days before and now release delayed - will update with new release dates in 5 days
3rd November - Release date announced 8 - 10th November (recovered from flu)
10th November - Actually not recovered from flu release delayed
30th November - hospitalized (not life threatening)
6th December - Back and healthy, keep eyes peeled between 13 - 15th December
Obviously current day as of 27th December nothing new has been updated since 6th Dec.

I also think that there is no reason to moan about this guys productivity, if you are not paying him. I get that many are disapointed, but I would also guess that most of us just leech free games here.

By that logic everyone should stop complaining. Let the white knights continue to go un-checked. Let the patrons continue to enable the Dev.
Most patrons come from this site and at a time i also supported. Sure most people come here for the free games but even if it is as high as 99% members here get the game for free and only 1% actually becomes a patron, Out if the 6,693,191 members that's still 66,931 possible members becoming patrons.
It is extremely clear the Dev is comfortable, he's earning enough, patrons still flutter to his patron to keep supporting him. So why would he risk changing anything? why would he release something if it has the potential of upsetting the ever growing patrons he still accumulates?
Oh, so there's still somebody to defend this scammer? Mate, rnest literally earned around $12k bucks during 2023 for nothing. I repeat: nothing. He's been teasing his supporters for a year with announcements without actually updating the game. 3 weeks has already passed since the last announcement and there's still nothing - not even excuse. And please don't tell about his communication with supporters because it's all about postponing and fake realise announcements. Moreover, patreon is not about communication - it's all about supporting content makers. This guy doesn't make a shit so what's the reason to support him? Why should anybody care about his problems? If he's got some health problems then just come back when you REALLY have something to show to your supporters. But for some reason rnest don't think it's a good idea. Maybe it is you who can explain why it happens like this?

I am not defending anyone in particular. None at all.
There are rules here as for when such a tag is added. Crying for it over and over again won't change anything. It's just annoying.
I'll put my two cents in on what's going on right now.
The fact that there is radio silence on patreon for 3+ weekscan be seen as a good or bad thing.
Starting with the bad (which, as optimistic as I want to be, seems to be the more likely option, given the entire history of delays that someone has posted recently.), RNest has given up completely on the project and is still stuck on making an excuse on what happened with the game.
OR RNest has gone down a rabbithole about a new function and has wasted hours trying to develop this new function instead of working on the release.
The good (my more optimistic look), RNest is actually working hard on the release and is not posting any updates until the release is done and the next thing we see on the patreon is the update that we waited a literal year for.
I'm personally holding out on the optimistic take, but to each their own.
