I get a 'fatal error' crash after starting the game, does someone know what I can do about this?

If you have never run the game before, there is a runtime package that might need to be installed.
If you have already run the file, it won't hurt to try running it again.
Go into your WickedIsland folder and go to this location: \Engine\Extras\Redist\en-us.
There is a UEprereq setup file in there, run that file and try starting your game again.
If it gives you any errors or doesn't seem to run, try restarting your computer. Don't shut down, just restart and try running that prereq file again.

yep it happens its a bug if you have any buildings they will still be there, but you are back to lvl 1 with NO items
this is why i suggest you make a save every level and keep at least two saves in case one goes wrong ....now if it helps you can use the cheats to regain experience you lost and regain items you lost to do that use the numpad / key and it opens the cheat menu there you can add experience and spawn items to get you sort of back to where you were. some things however are just lost and you will have to put in the work to get them back
your body modification are gone for good as there is no way to recoup them with out starting a new game
possible causes.... For me i have noticed that placing a bed.... will cause the save reset issue ...for others they say that some portals cause the issue While the real causes are unknown at this time we do know the dev is working on the issue to fix it .

Sorry, I don't have much else to suggest.
Delete the whole game folder.
Go to C:\Users\<youruser>\appdata\local and delete the folder named WickedIsland.
Download a new copy of the game, extract that to its own folder and try launching the game again.
I don't have any other suggestions for you, if that doesn't work.

the bed is not necessary you can still sleep in your shelter sleeping only advances time atm there is no sleeping animation ..this run so far i have only had 1 bugged save and i still am not sure what caused it , luckily the save before was intact so i only lost one level .. oddly my followers i created 2 of them dropped off my list they are still alive and i can still interact with them but they do not show up on the list when i hit the U key like they used to.

nope no mods are necessary atm be advised it is still a work in progress and there are still bugs so save your progress often
as mentioned earlier when building your shelter do not build a bed ......other than that have fun if you have questions we will try to answer them a lot of those answers can be found in prior posts more than likely .
I get a fatal error after clicking start game. It crashes and I have to restart my computer. What's up? Downloaded from steam and then from website just to see and I get the same thing. Fatal error and then it crashes before I can even start the game.

That's just it, a little window pops up and says Fatal error and that the game crashed and will close. I had one other window pop up last night saying something about rendering but that's the first and only time that one has come up. To be honest I'm not a genius when it comes to computers and files and what all. So sorry for the vagueness.

OK some technical questions how old is your computer if its more than 5 yrs old that could be a problem ...next have you done your windows updates recently you could have a outdated driver or outdated software either could cause an issue especially if your c++ runtime package is outdated or Direct X.... ETC so first thing i would recommend is run your updates and see if everything is current
Not the same guy but for me the fisherman questline bugged at the clothes crafting.
I had already found the top and bottom on the beach and was wearing them. Crafting the boots worked but then tried making the top and it did not register that I made it dropping or storing what I had and trying again didn't work. Reloading didn't work, didn't have an earlier save since it's 5 minutes in the game so I restarted.
After restarting I picked up the clothes, didn't put them on and once I got to the crafting again they just registered as if I had made them and I just had to make the boots and gloves again which worked fine.
So it's just a tad temperamental at the moment. No biggie, is to be expected.
Also fuck me, it took an age to find some wheat.
Update. After playing a bit, yeah quests are completely borked. Fisherman intro quest is stuck on the workbench even though I made 5 of buggers. Things seem to break the most when I save it seems or go trough a loading screen. The NPC's all go back to their starting lines after, I load, go in/out the tower portal or die. The quest progress stays the same but stops updating. Things placed in the world stay consistent though expect things dropped on the ground but that is probably on purpose. Reloading doesn't help going back a previous save does sometimes but too inconsistent.

Yeah wheat can be fun cause you are looking all over the grass but when you find it you are good because it always re-spawns in those same locations there is some just west of the fisherman's hut on the hill there is more in the field east of the hut about even with the last tree in the row of trees and five paces down.
as to the quests use the J key to open the journal on each quest he gives you this seems to stop it from going buggy
for instance sometimes until you open the journal it will not start counting the pieces of wood or fiber you need etc
There are a lot of bugs to iron out, but the game is progressing, and a work in progress. That said, even with the bugs I am hooked on this game and believe it will get better with time. It has came a long way since its inception

did you equip it in your hotkeys ? you have to do that for it to register

This game could be good, just not right now. In the few hours of playing my base/structures were deleted twice making me lose all my items.
I met Isabella or whatever her name was and she gave me a quest but it didn't work. Not sure what I'm supposed to do with the babies as they just sit in my inventory, maybe there's nothing in the game yet.
Gear is glitchy, I would take off the old and put on new and the textures would overlap. The colour would change as well sometimes which I didn't understand. If the gear was heels the feet would just stick out. As for tools they break way too fast and why do they take damage if you miss or swing at nothing. The repair kit I wish it was a multi use item for how expensive it is. It's not worth making since make new gear is usually cheaper.
Breeding is poorly explained I think. Not sure how big the world is but the area I was in only had a few types of monsters/creatures. I was hoping to see more than werewolf, werebear, wereboar, where are all the different types like in the pictures. I found a cave with vampyres that just instantly kill me so that was fun I guess.
I think this can be a really fun open world game it just needs a lot of fixes or changes to make it playable. Not sure how long it's been in development but it gives me the same vibes as carnal instinct but I think that game has been abandoned.
