Going to repost from other channel so it doesn't get buried. I posted a response to a comment on patreon and I'm going to repost it here since I know a lot of you weren't around last year to know what happened in my life and what has been going on.
I get where you're coming from. I posted on discord during the last update's development about what was going on with me but I'll repeat it here.
Around this time last year, my mom adopted a puppy, then about a month later she got so sick she couldn't get out of bed. After weeks of medical tests, they finally diagnosed her with breast cancer that had spread to her bones, which will ultimately kill her. So in what seemed like overnight I ended up with a puppy and being the primary caregiver of a dying mom. Since then her doctors have gotten her on medications that have helped a lot but she still only has the energy for about one thing a day, I have to do the rest. Add in a new job for me, 6 months ago, and my life has been a mess.
This has all been hell on my physical/mental/social life for the last year. I spent a month and a half having panic attacks every day. I couldn't swallow food, was diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis, and had to have my esophagus stretched. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Suffice it to say this has been the worst year of my life. I don't mean to trauma dump but this is what's going on.
As far as the update goes and milking patrons. The reason I don't have an ETA is because 100% of the work is done by me. Even if I could say I have, for example, 200 hrs of work left I don't know if that will take me 2 months or 5. That would be even if I could say I have x number of hours left. Even then as I go back and look at renders and scenes I find mistakes (some only I'll notice and some major ones). Let me give you an example. I must have looked at that image 6x before I saw her pants were clipping through her shirt. So the question becomes do I spend the 30+ minutes to fix it or just say fuck it?
I do appreciate everyone who has spent money on this project but it is not a money maker for me. Long term I would like it to be but I know I need to be a lot more consistent with updates for that to ever happen. I don't push people to my patreon and I haven't been locking updates to my higher tiers since the last release.
I promise you the update is coming and I have made a lot of progress on it recently. I don't want to try to put a time frame on it though because shit happens and I don't want anyone to say "he said 'x' date he's a liar and a scammer".
