There are multiple hints (listed in posts above) that tell us we're not playing a game set in a world that's even pretending to be normal (not that any game world even comes close to normal). It's one of the reasons I'm so looking forward to the next installment. I'm hoping there will be some additional clues. Normally we read through the text, skipping through the "so-called plot" to find the naughty bits. For this game, it really pays to listen carefully to what the characters say, and to look closely at every image: Lighting, posing, clothing, backgrounds, Shannon, Angel, Olivia, Maeve, Shannon, and Shannon. Plus there are background elements that I still can't decide if they mean something, or if they're just default stock render fodder CB used to fill in the blanks. For example, why would any house need so many copies of the exact same Spanish dictionary?

Shannon is very genuine as well. That's what puts her above the other girls for me.
In all seriousness, Shannon is my favorite because she's both sexy and snarky as all hell. But Angel is oh-my-god drop dead sexy and knows it. Olivia and Maeve are beautiful and interesting but, honestly, we really haven't been given as much of a chance to get to know them. But the game is young and there's plenty of time to plunge deep into their ... um ... mysteries.
Is this game abandoned? I've just played it and it seems it's been months since the last update.

I love the models and personalities of the characters (though Maeve reminds me of the sexy alien from Species.) The humor is fantastic as well, but...

Yeah, yeah, you've commented on many things lately but never got to the most crucial topic:
Shannon is amazing. She brightens every scene she's in; she bewitches you with her fiery gaze and her lively character.
Any event leading to her getting sad is indeed a no-win situation and should be avoided like the plague, so the choice with Angel was a no-brainer for me.
