It stops right after the 2 skits with the girls. And I don't have mods for this, I even tried to do a fresh install and play from start.
You mean the bit with the banana dance and the air pirates? Those are the end of chapter 4 alright. Curious.
Some basics first then:

3. When you go to the start menu, do you see "Chapter 5. V0.6.1" in the lower right corner?
4. What happens after the 2 skits? Does it return to the main menu, or does it crash/exit?
5. If it crashes/exits, what does it say in the log file if there is one?

7. If you take a save that is a little bit older, and you replay a little bit of the last chapter, does it go into chapter 5 then?

By fresh install, do you mean a fresh DL, or just reinstalling from the same DL?
naughtyroad is the chapter a seperate script that gts loaded at the end of the skit? If so, what happens if it's not found?
Each scene is it's own script file really, with the script being called by a label (through hardcoded calls, I didn't want to get fancy setting up a plug-n-play/dependency injection mechanism in there for no reason).
With a file or label missing, I'd wager it'd crash either outright for missing a reference compile time (e.g. as you start the game after a change), or give one of those nice ren'py exception screens when it gets to calling it. It'd take some doing to get to that point though, as the scripts are packed in an archive you have to unpack, edit (and repack).
But any which way, it won't silently fail, that's for sure.
Which sort of gives me an idea though. If you have remnants of an old mod in the directory (like a walkthrough mod for chapter 4), those would overrule the new script files (which are packed in archives). Given the way the walkthrough mod is coded, it just basically duplicates entire swaths of script to add in the colors, so it'd be overruling almost all of the new script.
That would have it calling old code that goes to the "thank you for playing chapter 4, the end" bit.
So, clean install (e.g. delete/backup whatever the old directory was, unpack chapter 5 into a new, fresh directory) would solve that if that's the issue. Save files should be fine as they are duplicated out to your user profile and it'll pick them up from there.

Well, I do have the correct build, no mods, tried both from Itch and F95, and I run Windows. It doesn't crash, it just takes me back to the main menu.

It would help if you offer more information, as we can't easily visualize what you are seeing.
If you extract LightofmyLife-0.6.1-pc.zip to its root folder in a fresh install, you should end up with something close to:
Ensure that you are not extracting this game too many folders down, as Windows has a 260 path length limitation.
Where are you in the game (a screenshot would be good) and what action do you take that leads to unexpectedly going back to the Main Menu?
I am actually so impressed by this dev. if every dev took notes we would have a lot more successful games. I hope once this project is done there are more to come!

That wouldn't cause any issues with the game files. The only out-of-folder data Ren'Py creates are save backups and they are that and just that.

I have really enjoyed this game, kudos to the dev on a job well done. Entertaining, interesting, funny, sad, I care about the characters, the character models and environment are all well done! There's enough plausibility and "realism" in the story so you at times forget you're in a story. Looking forward to more updates and of course, I'm supporting further development with some cash.
I'm new to this whole genre of games, so I'm discovering some trends that I find... odd. First, the MC's face is hardly, if ever shown. I don't get it. I don't like it. I don't need the face hidden to, er, insert myself into the story. Second, a lot of these types of games have characters giving the MC a kiss... but it's like a kiss to the screen. This looks awkward and takes me out of the story. I don't like it, in any game.
So, if I have my druthers, just show the MC's face and let's see some proper kissing scenes. The girls kissing each other is hotter than the girls kissing the MC. I say this not really being into girls kissing girls.
I'm not dissing anybody who's into lesbians or girls kissing girls or whatever... if that's your thing more power to ya. It's not mine.
Which says a lot about this game, since that ain't my thing and I still really enjoy this game.
Also if I'm gonna nit-pick, I want more frames per sec when the girls do their cute little dances and in the lewd scenes... which are still hot btw.

Not showing the MC is a deliberate choice, that's true. Not all VNs do it, but this one does and that does result in some trade-offs when showing intimacy as you point out. Some like it, some, as yourself, don't, but I'm really happy that the game contains enough good context for you to overlook those trade-offs.
Wrt the extra frames, it falls into a strange category really as I don't do animations, it's just two alternating frames for two individually posed images. The idea is to give a still image some life while falling short of actual animation.
As of yet, I've been too strapped for time just keeping up with the current content to delve too deeply into figuring out actual animating (which is quite a bit more complex). Maybe at some point in the future.

Dont bother with that, id say overhyped shit, just do as you are doing, it is great this way.
Animating - if you have plenty of resources, and a team working for you, plus a lot of free time, then give it a go.
Im sure it will be as great as everything else you did here, if you decide so.

I second this. Animations done poorly just ruin a scene and are overhyped and rarely done good anyway. So far all your scenes are pure artistic perfection in that regard. Don't change that at all. Even if you get a decent someone who can do it. Go for the next game. Leave perfection as it is.
