If it was just "bad time management" then the current situation wouldn't be happening, but it sure is a convenient excuse to use. Although, if by "bad time management" he meant "working 1 hour on the game every (few) week(s)" then I guess you could technically claim it's "managing his time badly", because he's literally doing nothing productive with his time.
Let's not forget that this update was supposed to be released 2-3 months after the previous update, and the content we got after a year was only 2-3 months worth of hobby development content (know devs who work full time and can still churn out more content in 2-3 months, maybe not quite as high quality of a set-up/modded, but decent).
Pretty sure that he's making it up as he goes. Likely he only had the general storyline thought through with no idea how to get there, as it's obvious with the inconsistent story/writing for scenes, where it has pretty much gone into supernatural/fantasy when it isn't necessary. The story progression has also gone into shit (previously there were those daily information reviews, wonder what happened to them....)

The thing is, first, the last update before this one did take much more time that it should have right? People already complained then, and.. he became even slower? Each time he say he will make sure to improve his work time, he does worse.. But well, let's say that he's just really bad at typing the keywork "scene" followed by the name of the image to display in ren'py...
What about his "update" about the progress of the development? "Hey, I've done 230% OF THE STORY" followed by "I'm polishing, it take more time that I would have know, I will delay the update." ?
I'm sorry, but he's just plain lying... If there "wasn't any deliberate will to create more delay" or "There is no lie or deceptive attempt", he would come clean, tell that he's become a bit lazy and froze patreons no?
ps: He can take the time he wants to publish an update, after all, if the patreons chose to believe him, well, they can spend their money however they want, even throwing it.. and they can also not be bothered by the delay of each update, but who the heck would really believe that Irphaeus is the good guy here, that he's working 48h a day and that he's never lying...
Just look at that update, he first tell that he finished everything and that he's just taking a delay to polish something, and then delete a good part of the update? What?

Wow... I was REALLY excited but the fact that saves don’t work (so I can continue where I left off) is a big disappointment.
I think I first played this at version .06, so it was a really long and really enjoyable. But it went down hill pretty soon after that. Long wait between releases and not much content. Perhaps I was spoiled by the first time I played? I’m glad someone posted a full save for this version, I just need to figure out where I left off (I think it was the shower scene with Kanye)... I hoping it won’t be another disappointment.

Ask for a new save of the specified area you were at.
Some people are having that isue and some arent.
Some are saying its the use of a mod that messes up the save but I've never used this mod and the game is doing its best yandere simulator impression.
