At the risk of sounding like a total jackass, to me it feels like the reset is more about prolonging the game/story as much as possible at this point. The fact that the actual discussion of both their infidelity and the lack of a response to the major sources of conflict/tension, which is basically a forced two line explanation, what else could it really be? If it was about expounding on the existing routes but with a 'clean slate' so to speak, then the issues surrounding the routes would be addressed in some way. What has actually changed in their relationship after the reset? With all of the major issues that bring real tension to each route being swept under the rug, why wouldn't they just pick up where they left off? Neither of them faced any repercussions or consequences for all their actions up to that point so why would they change anything? The wife after sleeping with anyone and everyone suddenly wants to go back to the way things were with no real explanation? Quite a leap of faith. In reality the reset is a cheap way to try to add some stakes/raise the tension since things were getting too repetitive and stale and thus extend the life of the game. It will make some players think 'Oh they're faithful again. Any cheating or cuckolding or corruption will now feel more fresh and impactful since they both said they would be faithful'.
This reset, or to be more specific, the couple's discussion about their relationship/cheating needed to have addressed the various issues in each of the routes that actually brought forth the conflict and the discussion in the first place. If not then, when? After another 3 updates when the story has circled back to another 'reset'?
Perhaps it would be beneficial to finalize the endings of the routes and work backwards so things don't get messier and harder to manage.
Edit: I don't think most people have a problem with the reset in general, it's more about the way it was executed. No player choice, not addressing the issues that brought up the discussion to begin with, no resolution of any of the existing conflicts, no actual plan on how to move forward, choices up till now have little impact, no closure, etc. What was the point of everything up till now if we just get sent back to the beginning of the game? It's like those Japanese VN's where you have to play through the game once and it unlocks a different play through/pov except nothing gets unlocked besides feeling dissatisfaction.
